yes, a cracking good march, played by a bloody amazing band, arguably the best, and certainly the oldest (c.1659?) band in the entire world (well, universe, actually)!!
I agree Grey707. Not that I wish to put down any regimental band, especially that of the Grenadier's but when it comes down to it, the Royal Marines do come out on top.
The march is "Unter Den Linden" by W. A. Crosse. It can be found on the CD by the Band of the Grenadier Guards, "To Your Guard". The inlay card notes state, "This march takes its title from the avenue lined with Linden trees in Berlin...Little is known of the march but it is suspected that despite its title it was written by a British composer in a continental style..." A great street march, certainly one of my favourites.

1685 is given as the date of 'the beginning of the band as a distinct entity'.
Any band that is offered a march (Scipio) before its premier by a brilliant composer such as Handel deserves kudos.

Den Kongelige Livgarde and the Grenadier & Coldstream guards all trace their origins back to the same 1650s period.
So it's safe to say they're all equally old and equally the best, what difference does 2 or 6 years make.
