  • Every fool can press any button on pian(in)o, but you cannot learn like that to play it 'scary', or either way without professional teacher.

  • It is good to learn how to make fun of yourself while learning at the same time.

  • This video should be titled 'how to drag your hand up and down on a piano pointlessly'

  • Horror movies are to a balanced meal as Thillers are to a McDonald's meal. Horror is scary because it has depth. Thrillers are scary because they catch you off guard.

This is the music of classic horror.

  • You need to actually explain chromaticism. "Going up and down one right after the other" isn't even close.

  • I liked this video.

And even if he would be at his worst, he'd still be better than the majority of people complaining here.

  • thats not the sustaining pedal you idiot.thats the damper.

  • im sorry but this needs a nice thumbs down!

  • He's a way better pianist than any of you chums... you guys probably can't even PLAY piano.

  • @zombiexhelloxkitty actully i can play many songs and i dont have any lessons.u should really think before u say stuff like that

  • it's more like a cat, that walks on the piano XD

  • This is classic stuff like Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu, etc,.. nice..

  • u can also use large chords and crap. and of course, mashing the piano keys on the low end :P

  • Awesome beard bro...

  • yeah... doesnt sounds like its scary.

  • If you want scary music, listen to the master.....BERNARD HERRMANN

  • Somewhere on 1:31 - 1:34 i think i heard Tom and Jerry :)

    Nice job!

  • @WaterBottle962 haha oh yeah i didn't notice that :)

  • nice piano... i want that piano :)

  • its not working for me =(

  • lol nice piano

  • sounds good but why's the sustain necessary?

  • @chemicalreaper Listen to "From Skin to Liquid" from Cannibal Corpse. Instrumental, no horrible growls. ;)

Now THAT is an actual masterpiece, and profoundly twisted...."real" horror music.

  • @yoe91 that and Infinite Misery. Most death metal is too over-the-top to be really scary, though. Check out the suspenseful "Urugawa" track from the soundtrack to "Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni" the anime. Youtube search "higurashi urugawa". That's the awesome one.

  • @vanishy0urself yup, that's O'Brien's gift to wrap up yet another gorgeous, juicy riffing album...

Over-the-top ? yeah, but rather too brutal and guitarriff oriented to be scary. If they used more atmospheric chords, or weird eerie strings with intense dissonance they could get to that "genuine horror" level I was mentioning.

Thx dude, I'll look it up some time, definitely.

  • @chemicalreaper Obviously you don't know what you're talking about, and the fact that you don't even know death metal, can't recognize I do since I mention 3 specific scales and you're talking about augmented arps really make you a provokingly logic-empty person. With no offense, I'm only commenting on what you give me.

And being French myself, yeah Danse Macabre is very well written.

But you don't follow my point. I mean, REAL horror themes. This, on the depth scale, is but over the surface.

  • Whole tone, Diminished arpeggio, chromatic...

reasons why I love death metal so profoundly...

I wish some contemporary classical musicians could be good enough to write quality horror music like death metallers do on guitar and drums...

  • Oh! I thought you were a little boy on the side of the other video i was watching

  • This would sound scary, if were living in the era of silent movies.

  • This reminds me of something from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

  • that sounds more funny than scarry. its sonds like me when i sound lalala in the bathrom

  • This is not scary this sounds like a happy fag

    running through a strawberry field

  • This kind of reminds me of Debussy's Feux d'Artifice

  • That was AWESOME! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • This is scary only for a fag like jb

  • mah scala cromatica e pentatonica! chiunque conosca una briciola di teoria ne è a conoscenza.. la solito spazzatura :S

  • que ya engordo el tio de escary movie? jajajaja igualito

  • it reminds me some horror game soundtracks from the 80's and 90's xd it´s nice

  • thats not scary. this is like old trying to be scary music.

  • you remind me of seth rogen

  • i wish u would go slower on the keys bro so i could see em and use em as sorta a scale to make my own melodys lol!!! but good stuff bro, there's really NO horror music tuts on here.

  • Oh don't be bothered by all the simple minded people commenting about how it's not scary. Your playing classic stuff dude man :)

and they most likely have nothin on your piano playing skills. Your beast :)

  • @xxscenicxlovexx Thank you for recognizing it's based on classic, old school music theory, which has it's place in the history for many films/theatre productions even made present day... but mostly in the 20' and 30's. There's a lot more I could post.... if I get over a 100,000 hits on this.. I'll take it seriously again and post an update. sound good?

  • @livejazzpiano it hit 100,000

  • @livejazzpiano time to update then

  • @livejazzpiano great!

  • @livejazzpiano sooo where the update??

  • @livejazzpiano You've got over 100,000 hits..

  • @livejazzpiano This generation has the sense that unless it's a low beat it's not scary, classical stuff is still scary (Moonlight Sonata), but most people can't understand it's a different scary

  • @livejazzpiano your over 100000 views where the update at bro?

  • So are your grammar skills.

  • @livejazzpiano wow you burned him there.

  • no offense but that was a crappy tutorial not scary at all

  • It's scary You would classify this as a tutorial; if you took the time to read all the comments, You'd find this segment was posted as a joke and designed to be kinda weird and crappy. The insight of a 13 year old was more on target then you. HAHHHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHHAHHHAHAHAHHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA

  • @livejazzpiano hey dont get offended because we put our input into your supposively "Scary Lesson" , and I didn't know this was suppose to be a joke. Also it wasn'st funny and it was still crappy. =) have a good day

  • I won't get offended, because I'll never upload anything worth a damn to me. I posted this after all the arm chair comments from untalented people incapable of contributing any original crap at all. I like the remix by the way... good work.

  • @livejazzpiano lmao, thank you very much. Oh and I can also play the piano very well when I finally get a cam ill upload it

  • @livejazzpiano WOW you just BURNED him dude. lol well said. btw, I loved your video, you know your theory for sure! its nice to see people using theory to create good horror effects as opposed to playing random notes on some harmonic or phyrigian scale with random synth effects in the bg

  • @rutofan you spelled "supposedly" wrong

  • @moo3992 oh thanks for that

  • @moo3992 Big whoop I spelled a word wrong, great way to get around the topic lol

  • @livejazzpiano Wow what an immature comment. I've just found this video by googling horror music scales. And i have to say this tutorial is pretty pathetic. You may have put it on for a joke, but thats not made clear anywhere. Except in your insulting replies to peoples comments.

  • i think you should watch the halloween theme and maybe youd lern something also this reminds of something cartoonish

  • is this a joke! that sucked

  • It's a good thing to learn how to make fun of yourself while teaching others at the same time.

  • yea ur the best at it!!

  • OMG THAT WAS SCARY lmfao. no im jk. that was stupid.

  • I'm so bloody freaked out I totally pooped my pants.

  • OHHHHH IM SCARED!!!! Not!

  • nice :) kinda reminds me of simpsons halloween special

  • ???scary??? ou est l'interet ???

  • scary?...... i dont think so : /

  • sounds like a mess ...

  • Sounds magical more than scary a type of mickey mouse the magician.

  • remind me of buckethead

  • the 1930s scary movie ....

  • Cool lesson. However IMO, The harmonic minor scale + Diminished arpeggios work really well. Tritones work good too.

  • is that a diminished arpeggio in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?

  • cool

  • that's so cool

  • omg he's serious. I thought this would be a funny video!

Though I dare say there are better ways to make scary music. Keeping the pedal down doesn't help that much. If you really wanna make something scary, use dissonants. And usually the lower register sounds more scarier, whereas the middle and upper register 'just' sound mysterious.

  • dissonants lol.

  • no no ummmm scooby doo lol

  • sounds like Dracula or Frankinstein

  • no it sounds like Perry Mason lol

  • Your awesome man i wish i could do that...!

  • 1:19

Who is this person? Why did it come? What is the purpose? We will never know.. Or will we?

  • =))))

  • lol cool tips ;)

  • that sounds more like pounding on the keys randomly to me.

  • i totaly agree with you.....

  • you think so randomobsessor? LOL

i can tell you its not random.....you must be

    tone deaf!

  • Comment removed

  • are you know? ive been playing piano for 17yrs.

dont leave dick ass comments.... then i wont ASSUME your a tone deaf dickhead..

  • He merely meant that the use of unvaried chromatic scales and whole tone scales are not, in themselves, methods of creating music.

Meanwhile, referring to people's comments as "dick ass" tends to make people less willing to listen to you. He misarticulated what he meant. Asking before throwing accusations of tonedeafness in and starting an argument was somewhat unnecessary.

But this is YouTube, where what people say has not effect on one's mood in reality. So move on.

  • wat...?

    lol

  • not effect = no effect, if that's what confused you. Sorry.

  • LOL xD

  • :P

    I love u

  • but - obviously you are, otherwise you wouldn't leave such comments :S

  • no, i just have different taste in music. theres nothing wrong with that

  • boring

  • soo boringggg.....

  • good job

  • why do all the pro pianists sway left to right, forward and back?

  • This piano was on rollers, so I needed to stack books on the seat to adjust for the difference in height.... it certainly didn't help the whole swaying thing. Sometimes I make a point of not swaying at all way I play (that includes facial gestures) although this clip was made intentionally as a joke; so swaying wasn't very foremost on the itinerary. :P

  • its just the feel that makes you sway!!

  • Why do you insult the man like that, I simply beleive you are making a fool out of yourself. Besides, you need to learn grammer. He was not even doing an actual song or any thing of that sort. He was just demonstrating the diffurent variations you could use to make a darker song for piano. So please stay silent you fuck.

  • Well said.

  • haha, Thank you!

  • lol true dat, homeskillet

  • u knoo wot i fink iz funy iz how ur makin a fool out uv URself.

    Dumbass.

  • I hope retards like you die "u knoo wot i fink iz funy iz how ur makin a fool out uv URself"

  • In case you didn't catch that, I was making fun of the way someone else was typing. So, you're the retard. :)

    And you will die.

  • if you were just making fun of someone else, you dont have to call him a retard, RETARD!

  • I think your all retarded

  • idk theyre both are, maybe i am too?

  • a really simple, but scary thing to do is play 3 consecutive notes on an organ, like c, c#, and d, hold those 3 notes down. it sounds pretty scary on a nice vintage organ!

  • shit

  • Lol I played like 4 christmas songs for my parents on a kids piano and now my mom wants me to play piano -_-

  • i dont want dadadadaadadadaad i want dun dun dun dunnnn

  • lol

  • hahahahahaha

  • I´m agree with user lonelydwightfrye, that sound reminds me the good old horror movies too. Thanks for the advice! :D

  • FENCH BASE INDEED!

  • sounds just like somthing from the friday 13th films ..

  • I don't play piano but am a musician....loved this example. To me, it was very 'classic horror' oriented. Very cool!

  • NOT scary

  • only thing scary : ____ youself

    XDXDXD rofl

  • LOL (laugh out loud)

  • we no wot it means

  • Caused more a state of strange bewilderment in me; A "kind of" creepy seen with weirdness. I think the whole tone scale is best for bewilderment and when I play it up and down, it reminds me of a sort of spinning when you're about to pass out or your having a breakdown. In my opinion, for making scary SCARY music, dissonance is key, as well as having hitting very deep keys. Good job though!

  • Thanks homie, teach me how to make some more evil music please ohh and u look like chris pontus from Jackass & Wildboyz haha lol

  • wow!

    thats so cool!

  • it doesnt sound that scary.

  • stop talking :s

  • scary movie music, (and sometimes chase scene music) just sounds like a lot of random banging on the piano. And Bidooshram is right. The whole tone sound is not so much scary. Just mysterious-sounding. And don't forget didminished chords (as in silent movies). Dimished Chords = suspense/unrest

  • u did good man I do piano as well I'm studien all the chords rite now I was wonderin if u could show me how 2 put melodies and chords 2 getha just add me on youtube and we can holla back PEACE!!!!!

  • i got your back

  • wow ur AMAZIN!!

  • if you think he is amazing look up scary piano solo. she is the best iv ever seen

  • Um... The person is a DUDE, u said SHE is the best... Is that suppose to be offensive or did u just make a mistake?

  • Theres a difference between being constructive and being a jerk. You don't have to agree with what hes saying, but you shouldn't be ignorant about it.

  • What do you mean by that? The music that you example in your video is not scary; it's rubbish.

  • there's something to be said about learning how to make fun of oneself while teaching others at the same time.

  • perhaps he intended the scary tone to imitate that of those old horror black and white films? Thats my assumption, but I'm an amateur pianist so, don't get me if I'm wrong.

  • L2Piano

Anybody can bang their hands on a keyboard and make a noise. That's not scary music, that's cacophonous nonsense. Real scary music comes from the use of the perfect cadence with minor chords and intricate patterns around a particular key and note in the right hand.

  • I agree with you... this sounds more like the "scary" music when a cat walks across the piano in a thunderstorm.

  • True, true. My sister could do better banging her head on the keyboard while strangling the cat.

  • Have you not ever watched old classic horror? This is exactly what the music sounded like. 5 stars to the video

  • ou...its classic

  • i think this is so estupid... i looked this because i thought that this would be a lesson to know how to do Scary Movie(the film!) music.

  • thanks for the help

  • LOL

  • SOUNDS LIKE A 6 YEAR OLD PRAT

  • Thanks so much, I am teaching my self piano and this is awesome!

  • I've always found the following arpeggio kinda creepy:

C - C# - F# - G - C - C# - F# - G - etc. up and down the keyboard - transpose to other key, etc. I once set an organ playing that arpeggio by itself (memory button, etc.) at night, with all the lights out oo-ee-oh-aaaghh!

  • lol THAT IS FREAKY! haha

    i just tried it

  • OMYGOD!!! I've been looking for years for someone that shows the scales for the diff movie types. YOU ARE A GOD MY FRIEND. I am trying to write scores for music now, but I've been into metal music my whole life, so I don't know many scales other than what sounds good to me.

  • cool stuff.

  • hey i am taking baby steps for it but my friends think it sounds hilarious!

    but hey thanks again!

  • cool

  • thanks for the help!

  • good job on your videos... I'm more familiar with the typical major/minor scales with the piano, so it was interesting to hear examples of what you can do with other "less common" scales

  • There's something to be said about learning how to make fun of yourself while teaching others, at the same time.

  • as long as you stick to diminished chords youre pretty much sound ha ha

  • any relation to mark snow of the x flies

  • yeah maybe something that would have been used in the shining.. but not modern day horror films.
