  • how does it work?? how do it connect it to my keyboard?? Do i need a speaker??? to hear it?? or sounds from the keyboard's speakers?

  • can I use this for Roland????

  • Which preset are you using? I'm guessing "Taurus".

  • this pedal staff has used streve dawson from saxon to record power and glory album...... he used the intro for eagle has landed ....

  • how much this satisfaction costs?

  • With the filter on, it reminds me of the beginning synth sound of "Tom Sawyer" by Rush, which I know both Alex and Geddy used this a tremendous amount.

  • Those might as well be renamed to Geddy Lee pedals

  • did zep use this for Stairway live?

  • @MitjaShi

Reading about JPJ and his gear (reocities site), he did use them from the 1975 and afterwards. Early, he used Fender pedals, probably using them on the '73 tour.

Quite powerful on Since I've been loving you, a bit annoying at times, though.

  • @wotajared ok, thanks!

  • my dad used to have one, but he sold it for like 1000

  • *crowd chanting* GEDDY! GEDDY! GEDDY!

Whenever i see a Taurus, I always think of Rush. Looks awesome man

  • It was also used by Erik Norlander and Rocket Scientists.

  • THE MARTIANS HAVE LANDED!!!

  • i want one for my keyboardist and i want one to use for my bass

  • Johny pauly jonesy!

  • It kinda reminds me to the Blade Runner Soundtrack, especially when you play with the sliders. Probably Vangelis used this machine in it. :-)

  • Reminds me of the beginning of "Birdland" by Weather Report.

  • were these bass pedals used in the song by van halen "1984" and "jump"?

  • @LTLfilms no eddie played the keyboard on jump and more than likely on 1984

  • @LTLfilms

And the Cradle Will Rock = Wurlitzer cranked through his flanger and Marshalls

Sunday Afternoon in the Park = CHEAP Electro-Harmonix Micro Synth

    1984 = Oberhiem OBxa

    Jump = Oberheim OBxa

    I'll Wait = Oberheim OBxa

  • @aNdYmAtTeR Eddie used a moog on Dancing in the Streets, and Intruder as well.

  • @aNdYmAtTeR Eddie used a moog on Dancing in the Streets, and Intruder as well. Also, you forgot One foot out the door.

  • @JackBlair2

One foot out the door was a Electro-Harmonix EH-400 Mini Synthesizer

Strange ... it must have fell off somehow : )

  • what are the notes for the keys ? nice !!

  • Where are the Taurus IIIs? I have yet to see one as of 10/10. btw, $2000 is steep when arguable you could get some midi bass pedals plugged into a quality synth for less (like Dave Smith's MoPho)

  • couldn't this be the sound in "lucky man" by elp? anyway, I luv it ..

  • Is it possible to get a normal bass sound from these pedals as opposed to a synth one??

  • The bass player in the band Menomena uses one of these in the song Weird, probably one of the only current bands that use one of these.. that I know of at least :P

  • I have seen this pedal on on the Police's album Zenyatta Mondatta, I think it was used in "Don't stand so close to me" at the beginning.

  • @GBscottieUK

    yes this is true

  • haha those are what sting stomps on in the police!

  • Is that Pedal was used in Hemispheres by RUSH?

  • @GORFF987 yes

  • Jamiroquai in the intro...

    Deeper underground =D

  • My friend from a band called "Empire" (Chris Kyes vocals)

has a collection of these pedals. He invited me over to play along with him on bass and let me use these pedals.. Wish i had a set myself lol.

  • This pedals are so fucking stupid I can't even imagine why some progressive bands used this fucking shit

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub To fill in empty space.

  • I have better pedals on an older organ,

    It is a hammond b3

  • great pedal, but I use PK5 MIDI controler with V-sampler, it is also really good substitute - best regards / animate band

  • You can add "Le orme" to the users. I saw Aldo Tagliapietra using this synth live at a concert. Ah man, it's really a fat sound. And has a sweet attach to!

  • Wow

  • the filter in that thing is nuts!

  • i think its a very ugly sound @:(

  • wow...

  • is it just me, or is it just the fact that the more i see and hear the taurus 3, the more i prefer the taurus 1 instead? it much easier to personalize than the 3, in my opinion.

  • Yeah...

Ritchie Blackmore used from 1977 in "Rainbow"

  • The biggest keyboard ever

  • yngwie malmsteen too

  • This is one of the three synths Moog initially planned to release as part of its Constellation ensemble in early 1974, together and separately.

The other two synths were keyboards: the Lyra monophonic synth, which never truly got off the ground (the closest thing to this was the Micromoog/Multimoog); and the Apollo, which became the Polymoog.

  • I have a taurus II im thinking os selling...

  • how much does one go for nowadays?

  • saw Fleet Foxes use one of these live..

  • DAMN this is a sexy synth

  • what?Id say it was the exact opposite... Its a beast of a machine lots of noise

  • Frank Zappa apperently had two of them on-stage at the same time!

  • Rush too - Alex had one for synth lines in a higher octave, which it can also do.

  • It can do higher octaves than just bass sounds, but I do want to point out that the really high "string" type sounds that you hear/see Alex and Geddy play on the Taurus pedals were actually from Oberheim synthesizers that they had connected to their Tauruses.

  • REtrosound... Can you run your bass guitar through this? Thanx in advance..cheers

  • no.

    no audio in

  • Thanx man...that's a bummer though... I wonder if the newer models have audio in and you can run your guitars through them? Anyway, thanx for getting back to me...Peace

  • The Taurus III has unfortunately also no audio In

  • :( WTF!?!

  • The Flower Kings. Jonas Reingold uses this.

  • Sting used them also in the Police years

  • Yes,Genesis,Marillion,Rush,U2,Saga,IQ and any more band use

  • Rush used this a lot in the seventies, Tunes like XANADU

    were loaded with moog sounds.

  • u2 song is where the streets have no name...

    sylvain from montreal qc

  • very sunn0))) sound

    cool

  • What songs does the Edge use this on?

Anyone see Simon Gallup from the Cure using it on Cold - circa 1982?

  • playin foot pedals with hands?

  • why not? :)

  • @StopTheMoti0n If you've seen the video to Steve Hackett's instrumental "Clocks", this is exactly what the bass pedal player does ;)

  • One word: KILLER.

  • sounds like starting of Orion...

  • yeah

  • stupid question of the day: did cliff burton use one of these on the intro to 'orion'?

  • I don't think so, I think it's just bass distortion.

  • To my ears the intro is a distorted hammond organ. It's definitely not just bass distortion. Unless the bass was multitracked to make up the chords and everything then fed through a leslie.

  • nah, i play it on my bass all the time , cliff only used 2 fx pedals

  • No. It was his bass.

  • ??????

  • I'm answering someone's question, someone had asked if cliff burton use one of these on the intro to 'orion'. It was his bass.

  • sounds like mortal kombat

  • I have a matching set in flight cases!!

  • it sounds so fat, that the little window always closes :P

  • Frank Zappa had Taurus in his band as well, I even think he had two of them!! At least Tommy Mars (on of Zappa's keyboard players) says in an interview the he had "two sets of bass pedals". That interview can be found right here on YT, just search for "Tommy Mars interview".

And, yes, that sound is PHAT.

  • Wicked !!!

  • I remember Mike Rutherford making the comment once that the reason he used these, is often times Genesis had no bass player...at least while they were basically a 3 man band.

  • Mike Rutherford on Los Endos end part!

  • Genesis: Mike Rutherford on Cinema Show solo....7/8 part...Chris Squire on Close to the edge.......GREAT OLD TAURUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hear when anywhere anyone uses Moog taurus petals, Geddy Lee can sense it.

  • @rushnerd But Mike Rutherford does Geddy one better - he knows who's PLAYING it.

  • @rushnerd Exactly.

  • +tool

  • Ah troy sanders from mastodon is using one on crack the skye :P

  • Imagine all the windows you could vibrate with this thing :O

  • @donottakethisname The lucky ones don't have to imagine! The Taurus really is a special instrument.

  • They cost 2000$.Moog is insane.haha

  • so cool

  • where do they sell this look so cool

  • i wonder if led zeppelin played this on no quarter.

  • If you played them outside, on a fine day, how far would the sound travel?

  • Well you would probably run it through a PA system, and it would all depend on that. But It will definitely be as loud as all the other instruments. If this is what you're asking.

  • I was thinking that bass sounds carry better. When our neighbours complained about my brother's drumming they could hear the bass drum more, until he played with the doors and curtains shut. I saw your strange, wonderful thing on ebay for £2,500 and wanted it so much!

  • what are you running this into? seperate speaker? monitor? amp?

  • Geddy Lee rules this thing as well as his four string.

  • Very nice sound.

  • I bet that cost a pretty penny

  • Beginning Sounds a bit like Koyaanisqatsi

  • philip glass philip glass philip glass philip glass philip glass philip glass philip glass philip glass

  • it reminds me of beginning of jamiroquais deeped underground song

  • What's with those slider-thingies atop the unit?

  • slider for filter cutoff and loudness

  • Daaaaaamn, that is some yummy bass.

  • Nicely done, now I might actually learn how to tune my set...!!!

  • pretty expensive tuner.

  • fucking hell thats got some balls! this is actually the FIRST moog synth that I REALLY like the sound of (the minimoog didnt really do alt for me)

  • This bass pedal sounds fantastic on the live version of Genesis' Cinema Show and Firth of Fifth

  • Didn't this instrument been used in a Phil Collins video? If so, which is it?

  • yes

    phil collins - i don't care anymore

  • Where can I find a cheaper version of this synth pedal? Is there any digital version of this, with less options, just headphones and speaker output, maybe midi output?

    Thank you!

  • google for taurus VST by smartelectronix

  • Thank you, greetings from Italy!

  • beware...it's not going to sound the same as your genesis and rush albums. i own a minimoog voyager and roland midi foot pedals and the effect is nice but there never will be another taurus mark1. unfortunately the trend is always to manufacture things more cheaply instead of top quality. even bob moog more or less admitted this in his later years.

  • ...alwayz loved the sound of this thang on vintage prog Genesis stuff...

...I was listening to them AND *punk* at the same time! Sacrilege!

  • My question is:

If this monster have the same circuits than minimoog (ocs and filter moogs)

    Hipotetically..

You make the same bass sound with a "simply " mini?

  • The sound and the circuits are not similar to the minimoog.

    I have both.

And the mini can not make the extremly deep sound of a taurus.

  • That's a bit silly. I have a mini and sometimes I think its too deep sounding and might eat up a whole mix..

  • I can get better sounds with a chainsaw..just kiddin..great vid.

  • One day Im going to own a set of Taurus Pedals for no other reason that to be able to play them and because Im Rush nerd. :)

  • yes, but the sound will different be. Other construction units have an influence on the sound.

  • They are recreating the V/Hz sound engine. The only thing being added is MIDI and presets.

  • it sounds like the beginning of the hidden track "physical" on the album broken by nine inch nails

  • You have to remember though that the Taurus was originally conceptualized to be the Bass pedals for the Greatest synth on earth...THe Moog constellation. So this is just one componant of that system and was designed to be limited.

  • O RLY? Funny...the LAMBSBREAD preset on the Stage II operating system goes so low that Roland KC 550's can't pick up the bottom of the keyboard. BTW...I've got a Phatty as well. I've also got a Peavey KB/A 60, and the LP gets the windows shaking pretty good. Though the Taurus does kick some serious butt, it has no presets, aftertouch, velocity sensitivity, etc. I understand that's the point of owning one, it makes for a very expensive, unsuitable performer.

  • Hmm I'd like that.

I'd have my small keyboard with all sorts of sounds (well, not that small. 5 octaves atleast) and my full piano size keyboard, with a bit more touch to it and then I'd take this, place it under my feet, go play in a band and be progressive. :D

  • mmmmmmmmm... makes me wanna curl up into the fetal position and suck my thumb thats bass is so thick! lol

  • are the taurus pedals monophonic?

  • yes

    monophonic

  • Just got a pair today but they are a mint as a prostitute is a virgin haha. Oh well now I have a fun project in store. Awesome video btw!

  • Thanks for the demo. I always wondered what you could do with the Taurus pedal. Now I know!

  • thanks :)

  • Moog must bring this thing back into production, please! They're so in demand that $3000 is the price for one in this cond.

As a bassist who doubles on synths and devices I've been looking for one for years!

If you see one and can afford it, buy it!

The only thing that comes close are Hammond's new 25 or 13 note pedals- but they're organ though you could get close by running Moog's bass stompbox on the line out. I believe Roland has something too. But Moog had a winner here!

  • dwemmy - you said 5 months ago "Moog must bring this thing back into production, please!"

Well they DID. Check Moog Music's website. ;)

  • They did. Check the Moog Music website...it might even be better than the original...original styling, more memory, MIDI, and CV/Gate trigger.

  • Amazing these are still in such demand and going for that much money. Just goes to show how impossible it is to reproduce that sound... like the original mellotrons. Has anyone had any luck midi-ing a set of Roland pedals to a Vintage Keys or similar type unit?

  • This would be great if i could use midi and control it with a key board instead of my feet.

  • Why bother? Just get a Little Phatty! It rocks just as much, if not more!

  • Sorry Voltor,

Simply put, the Taurus was designed to be able to produce bass tones that other synths simply wont do. I believe it had something to do with an overdrive circuit.

But while the phatty may have its advantages I can personally vouch (without ever seeing one in person) that the Taurus would squash the Phatty and not look back. THats one of the reasons why they can fetch prices that rival that of the Model D.

    Your buddy,

    Eric

  • Thanks, Rhythmicons...I guess everything has it's uses...especially Moog things. Still, the Taurus seems a bit limited. Also expensive for just doing what it does.

  • I agree. Buy a midi controller for a analog keyboard and you will have a more powerful and useful bass.

  • I'd love to have one of those but they are just so damn expensive. That's the first time I've ever seen slider controls that are foot-operated.

  • how much does one of them cost?

  • so mightt f****n powerful sound.. the fatest sound ever

  • HOW MUCH AND WHERE ??

  • 2000-3000$

  • The problem with keyboards is everything costs so much. My 2 bass guitars and amp cost less than $2000. One could spend more but it wouldn't improve my sound or playing. I used to play keyboards BTW.

  • tbcass, I hate to disagree but yes, the instrument DOES improve sound (not playing, though).

I just invested a shitload of money in a new bass, a vintage one, and I'm really fucking happy with it.

So if you like it and you want it - get it!

  • It's a matter of opinion really. I've never heard any basses or amps that I like the sound of better than what I presently own. Total investment for 2 basses and 1 amp, $2000.

  • Is THIS THE ONE that LEDZEPPELIN USED IN TEN YEARS GONE?? john paul jones used bass pedals in that song while holding a 3 neck guitar with mandolin

  • yes this is.

  • The Taurus is a great piece of analog gear and is much better than the Taurus II which is somewhat thinner sounding. An idea of what it sounds like and what this powerfull synth is capable of just listen to Rush because it is used all over their tracks...

  • I think Sting used an actual minimoog on "Don't stand so close to me" and you can see this on the DVD Every Breath You Take which was footage from the 80s which shows them in the actual studio in the carribean where all of these songs were recorded. It shows an old minimoog behind him while they were recording. I definately recommend this DVD to all of The Police fans.

  • Yes, I was going to say that as well. They definitely used this in the great and now legendary intro of Don't Stand So Close To Me.

  • i belive that def leppard also use this or something like it but they like programme their own sounds in i think.....can this be used to sample?

  • I've understood that these pedals are quite hard to get nowadays? Or at least pricy. I'm just curious to know whether there's anything on sale that sounds or looks even a bit like these?

  • There is some Tom Sawyer in there too. Sting plays some manner of bass pedal on the current Police tour and it will shake the fillings out of your head.

  • This is the one Sting uses live, and you're dead right...he hits it on the last beat of every song just to get the seats rattling at the back of the stadium....

  • UNF. that is so sexyful.

  • mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • awesome!!!!! I always was fascinated by those bass pedals and the different combos of sounds you can get

  • Amazing sound. The Police must've used this in "Don't Stand So Close To Me" in the intro, huh?

  • AWESOME SOUNDS!!! VERY GOOD

  • i am sure that thing could remove kidney stones

  • :-))

  • Good demo. I have always been fascinated with synthesisers and pedals. I want to buy a bass pedal in the near future!

  • I can hear Subdivisions bass pedals on this demo ! Great track Rush are a great band.

  • It looks cool, thats for sure.. But to me

it sounds a lot like the feedback filter on

the jp8000.. maybe thats just the poor recording.

  • Has anyone sampled the sounds and created a library for public consumption ? It seems to be a very in demand product. I want to pretend I am Geddy, Alex, Rutherford ...ya know what I mean. I gotta get that sound!
