  • j'adore....

  • Is this the score that's used on the dvd version of this?

  • How anyone can dislike this is beyond me.

  • So hard to imagine this was made 90 years ago.

  • Rudolph Valentino's father's family were Russian Gypsy Circus entertainers.. Rudolph did try the high wire when he was younger. Much of what is known about Rudolph was fabricated by the studios. That is why, when he returned to his 'home town' in Italy, no one knew who him or his family.

  • @ibbiwho

are you kidding me with that bs story?

  • NICE its CLASSIC!

  • omg! d gal he danced w/ luks horrible!

  • hey man, who shot the couch?

  • He'd never have made it to the finals in "Dancing With the Stars." Besides, his partner is a dog. Ugh!

  • I LOVE this scene! No matter how many times I watch it -- or the whole movie, for that matter -- I'm swept away by the sex appeal -- IT? -- of that beautiful, graceful man. Oh, Rudy -- Why did you have to die so young?

  • @lauraalittle If the good die young, the goodest die youngest. Like Mighty Joe Young.

  • Hi! I like so much video and tango music, but about tango music I coldn't find title of this song. If you know it or knows the way to discover it, could you please let me know? I would like to dance it in my tango class, but I don't know which title I can tell to teacher to be able to find this beautiful tango song. Thanks very much my friend and tango fan! Bye Giorgio

  • @giorgiopizzieri I think the name of this piece is "La Cumparsita".

  • @giorgiopizzieri It doesn't sound like La Cumparsita to me. In fact, it doesn't sound like any tango I know. I think it might have been composed by whoever was in charge of the music of this film.

  • i have this on 16mm but this tango scene appears to be missing

  • that first guy dancing looked like a sissy and Rudy looks like a real man.

  • He was called "The Great Lover " for a reason! He is very hot! I'm one of those girls that just loves watching him! I love Valentino!

  • I love the way he talks with a cigarette in his mouth. It's so cool. They dont make actors the way they used to. He's irreplaceable.

  • He was a great star..innimitable.

  • This was the first time I've actually seen that famous tango. It was easy to see why he instantly became a star when this hit theaters. He had charm, looks, animal magnetism, and incredible charisma. All that came forth in this dance. Amazing. Sometimes it just takes one scene to make an actor a "star", and some never get it, while others do. Great clip.

  • Keep dancin' Ruddy! I got my red, inflamed appendix out the other day!

  • rudy is the man!

  • I mention Valentino in The Celebrity Song.

  • I bought all my Valentino movies from ebay. COBRA is Fantastic n Valentino is in all the movie BEAUTIFUL MAN AWESOME MOVIE in COBRA YOU WILL SEE THE GRAND acting of valentino

  • After all these years he is forever immortalized through these beautiful movies. His grace, charm and charisma still speaks loud and clear. Sheer elegance with strong masculine sex appeal. My grandmother from Hungary was madly in love with him and said every woman in the world was as well...*Sigh*..so so romantic. Thank you for posting this!

  • Only Valentino could dance the elegant Tango in Cowboy Boots and get away with it. We had also heard rumors for years he was gay. It happens the guys the girls go nuts over turn out to be gay, like Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power and Rock Hudson. Could be. Any guy that good looking nowdays everybody would just assume he was gay.

  • @4freespeech

"ERROL FLYNN" my dear, he was a manly man. You are probably getting him confuse with Montgomery Cliff.

And Tyrone Power! hahahalol, man please do some research before making judgements about others sexuality okay. I think it will do you some good.

  • @starletdempsy Research actually shows that several biographer's say that Flynn and Power were bisexual and one claims they even had an affair with each other. I suggest taking your own advice about researching before commenting.

  • @MrCelticbuddha Please check out Evelyn Zumaya's piece on the sexuality of Rudolph Valentino, which you can find on the website of The Rudolph Valentino Society. She exhaustively researched the topic, starting with an open mind and found absolutely no credible evidence that Valentino ever was attracted to or had any sexual relations with any man. Those who made such claims had no evidence, and started saying these things in the 1960's, after people who knew him had died, and solely for profit.

  • Rudy doing what he does best! Dancing and making romance! I definitely can see why women in the 20's swooned over him!!!

  • Rudy is definitely one of the most beautiful actors. Ever. And a multi-talent too.

  • Valentino gay? No way !!

He married Jean Acker , a lesbian , spent only one night together and never " consummated.."

    Gay Rudy ??

    No way

In 1919, prior to the rise of his career, Valentino impulsively married actress Jean Acker. Acker quickly regretted the marriage and locked Valentino out of their room on their wedding night. The couple separated soon after, the marriage never consummated

  • You really know your stuff. Did you read, I believe it was called the Dark Knight..or was it Dark Prince? Was a great book!

  • it is called ''Dark Lover'' :)

  • thanks!

  • is this the entire movie?

  • Does anyone know the name of the music please ?

  • It might be LA CUMPARSITA.

  • i bet there all dead from smoking!!! lol

  • He's good dancing tango!Well done!

  • So geschmeidig wie eine Katze - ich kann nur die Augen verdrehen vor Entzücken...

  • What magic Rudy had! The man was perfection on the screen and had he lived, I am sure he would have gone on to even greater heights. He made such an impact when he was on screen that even with terrible scripts and diabolical interference from his then wife,he rose above it all and his charisma and appeal seared the screen. He will never be forgotten even for another 80 years.

  • I saw this movie in its' entirety for the first time last night, the bonus feature on the B side of a DVD documentary on Valentino's life. I've been a silent movie fan my entire life, but I fear I've neglected Valentino. Not anymore. This movie is also so much more than the tango (although this scene knocks me for a loop! WOW), and Rudy gives a marvelous performance as we watch him grow from libertine to a man recognizing his responsibilities in life. Try not to miss it on DVD.

  • I'm looking everywhere for this, but I'm told Delta has discontinued it.Can you please tell me where you found this movie in dvd format?

  • I rented this from Netflix on a documentary DVD called Rudolph Valentino: The Great Lover, and that was before I even knew this scene was on YouTube! Four Horsemen was the bonus feature, which gave me a chance to finally see a movie I'd heard so much about. And yep, I'm in Amazon now; not sure why Delta discontinued it; the price for a used copy is over $70! Have you tried Ebay yet? I'd recommend renting the DVD from Netflix, which still has it. Hope that helps.

  • I have a Blockbuster account, but they no longer have it for rent.Yeah,I saw the Amazon used copy, but I refuse to pay $70 for it,so I guess I can either go with Netflix or keep waiting.Who knows, somebody make actually post the whole movie & documentary on yt.

Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my question. :)

  • Glad I could help. I just don't know why the movie hasn't been released on its' own DVD. But hey, I'm still waiting for 'Greed' and they FINALLY released 'Sunrise' on DVD. Sometimes I have no idea why it takes so darn long.

  • Yeah,I love Von Stroheim films, what a talented director he was(good actor also).

I had to have "Sunrise",and so I plunked out the big bucks for the "Borzage Fox Murnau" set,and although it's packaged horribly,to me it was worth it.

  • I had heard about the packaging and was disappointed that the studio would release such wonderful movies that way. They deserved more. And I know what you mean about having to have'Sunrise' -- a great favorite of mine & definitely one of the greatest movies of all time. I have 'Seventh Heaven' on my rental queue. Rented 'Bad Girl' (or 'City Girl' one or the other, but haven't watched it yet. Great talking w/ other silent fans out there!

  • I guess I got lucky with my BFM set, because not one of the dvd's was scratched.Although,I'm going to have to put them in other cases,to keep them that way.

Oh yes! I love talking with other silent film fans! :)

  • what is a silent film?

does it mean that they don't talk, like..at all?

and is mary pickford a silent film star?

    (:

  • A silent film has no talking whatsoever. Most silent films include music, but not all. Actually, when Silent films were in theatres, some music was played live inside the theatre to the actual movie.

And yes, Mary Pickford was a silent film era star.

  • oh yeah,I forgot to say,in case you don't have it,I highly reccomend the Rudolph Valentino box set that's been out for a year or two.Although some of the films on it are not complete,it's a set worth having for any true fan. Also, the just released "Beyond the rocks" with Gloria Swanson.

  • I love Beyond the Rocks. I have seen it 5 times, all on TV. From time to time everyone should check out TCM, they play some of Valentino's movies. That is where I have seen maybe 10 of his movies.

  • yeah,I just got tcm about six months ago.I sure hope they show "The Four horsemen" sometime soon.I usually try to watch on silent Sunday's,because I love silent films.

  • I also watch Silent Sunday's. I have a dvr and I record almost every silent movie I come across. You never know who you might come to like, I love Harold Lloyd just by accidentally seeing one of his movies.

  • Oh how wonderful....a fellow Harold Lloyd fan!!!! I totally adore him! If you ever see "Welcome Danger"or "Professor Beware"in dvd format, could you drop me a line?

  • I would totally let you know. Lloyd is just the most adorable guy. His cute smile and his glasses not to mention how cute he looks in his hat. I never thought I would think silent comedy was funny. They are a lot better then today, no stupid sex jokes and all that.

  • Yes,I know what you mean because I too came across Harold Lloyd by accident.I had purchased one of those cheap 50 movie packs a few years ago,and happened to try out the movie"Milky Way".

That's how I found my Harold.:)

  • Okay Valentino fans -- any of you seen 'Cobra'? I was astonished by just how darn good he is in it; nearly an Oscar worthy role (had the Oscars been around). But *sigh* *sniff* the one copy of 'Blood & Sand' I rented from Netflix was in abominable condition (no restoration AT ALL) & with an atrocious organ score. Is there a better version out there anywhere?

  • oh please don't remind me....three times I've tried to rent it from Blockbuster, and three times they sent me Sly Stalone's Cobra.....lol

    So,no I haven't seen it yet.

  • OH NO! I'd forgotten about the Stallone movie! *sigh* Frustrating. Well, I hope you finally get to see it. It'd be worth it believe me. Anybody know if Blockbuster online has a decent copy of 'Blood & Sand'? The one from Netflix sucked!

  • You're not the first person to tell me that movie is good, but do you think "Cobra"is worth buying?

I wish I could tell you about Blockbusters "Blood & Sand" but I own a copy of it,so I haven't rented it.

  • I'd say if you want a complete Valentino collection, then yes, get it. It's worth it. The movie begins as though it'll be a comedy and then becomes quite dramatic, with Rudy giving what I thought was one of his best performances. I really don't think you'll regret it.

  • I did buy "All night" and "Monsieur Beaucaire"from grapevine,so I should buy "Cobra" too. I'm one of those wierd people who has to have the 'really"rare stuff first, and then later, talk myself into the not so rare.lol

  • I need to find "Monsieur Beaucaire." I don't usually buy movies sight unseen though. Need to check to see if Blockbuster Online or Netflix have it....I hate complaining, but why is it that there are silent movies that we KNOW are available and in many cases restored (like the Turner Classics restoration of 'Greed'), but they can't get it out on DVD. I know there's a small market, but they release everything else under the sun, whether it made money or not. *sigh* Frustrating.

  • I wanted to watch Cobra for ages but can't find it anywhere. And I love valentino :(.. Do you know if I can watch it anywhere on the internet??

    Hildy..

  • what a great guy, btw w0rId hasn t changed that much since 1921

  • Dear Hildy,

You can find it out on torrents. Impressive movie!

    Cheers from Peru

  • The official version is t Rudolph's father travelled extensively with the circus. Rumour strongly suggests that Rudolph's father was really a Romani Gypsy, but because of the intense racial hatred and prejudice, Rudolph claimed to be Italian. After leaving the circus and settling in a permanent location, his father worked as a Vet, mainly with horses. Valentino was an excellent horseman and dancer.

  • I just looked up the female dancer. Beatrice Dominguez. She died a week before the movie was premiered in New York.

  • This movie is scintillating. The characters are perfect. I guess that's because the movie was made just a couple of years after the fantastic book was written. Very few anti-war pictures are as beautiful as this one. Wish I could see this in a theater with an orchestra.

  • Valentino could be a star even today. So sad he was cut down in his prime

  • I've seen hundreds of movies in my life and it's no exaggeration to say that I've never seen anyone light up the screen the way Rudy did. From the moment he stands up in this scene I can scarcely look at anyone else - that's how riveting he is. What a gift he was.

  • Does he dance in any of his other movies? I love watching this video. He moved like a panther.

  • John Travolta, eat your heart out!

  • this is my favorite silent film. its so metal! fkdjasfkl i love it!

  • An interesting bit of trivia about this film: John Seitz was the cinematographer of this film. He later became the head cinematographer at Paramount and was the cinematographer of Sunset Boulevard (1950). What a wonderful connection between this film and Sunset Boulevard.

  • My grandmother was obsessed with Valentino so...of course, I reminisce...

  • I am trying to locate footage or stills of the Native American actress Minnehaha. She played the Old Nurse in Four Horsemen

  • This was an excellent film, and deserves

to be know for more than just this dance,

as stunningly sensual as it is.

Where did the goldfish come from? LOL I love

silent film but the 'comic relief' moments

    were unbearable!

  • You must give him credit. He "had it". And he "had it" in the days before plastic surgery and cosmetic trickery that today's men have. He even taught himself to dance - without years of professional dance instruction. That is why he was so famous., he was a real natural. Noone since has equaled his fame and for years they sought a replacement which they never found.

  • It is an old film, not a sunday schoolf film.

  • y i can see that seems i misunderstood its theme anyway i was hoping to find sth relative to the legend of the four horsemen but aah never mind

  • Sorry, I cannot read 'text' language. Could you restate please?

  • all i said before is that i was searching for something about the four horsemen as they are presented in the apocalypse . This film however was not relative to this issue so i was disappointed by it . Thats all

  • Oh. You mean the Biblical apocalypse myth?

  • exactly . according to that legend the four horsemen symbolize the forces of mans destruction ( conquest , war , pestilence , and death ). its rather impressive for a myth and its a good source of inspiration so it would be very interesting if i found any more clues about it

  • If you think that.

  • y of course . For example instead of the four horsemen think about the four riders . Antyppas the rider of terror , Ares the rider of pain , Laius the rider of chaos and Cadmus the rider of death . Only one of them is good but who? Anyway this is an example of what this myth can make u imagine lol

  • Indeed. It is also a widely held belief.

  • i dont quite understand what exactly is the belief you are saying?

  • The Christian Apocalyptic belief.

  • indeed though its a story of mankind destruction and doom . i guess maybe thats why its so widely known

  • True. People seem so fascinated by the end of things, perhaps more so than the present.

  • of course . This whole legend gives a sense of the inevitable epic cosmic disaster which is at least attractive in its dark way .

  • Yes. People always prefer stories of death.

  • They prefer stories of death and stories of love . u know what the say . Love and Death . The stronger of these two is love . But love can lead to death . That romantic sense is most atractive and charming

  • Very philosophical.

  • quite yes . its a popular and romantic way of thinking

  • No I was referring to you!

  • well then i consider this a personal compliment if you dont mind :)

  • That was its intent.

  • thank you then . you understood me quite well

  • I shall take that as a compliment, which was its probable intent.

  • yes it was. you saw straight what my point was

  • Yes.

  • Indeed. It is also a widely held belief.

  • I'm very impressed with the production values as well as Valentino's performance. The man could definately dance well and knew how to take command of a scene. I need to find this film on DVD.

  • What a sexy man! I wish I were dancing with him. hehe!

  • This story is rubbish... There are evidence of the contrary.

  • read the biography on Ramon novarro called : "beyond paradise" and then get back to me!

    booh yahhhh!

  • I know it, but look for other stuff that demonstrates the heterosexuality of Valentino. This urban legend springs from the terrible death of Novarro.

  • valentino was bi and infact there were rumors that he liked men so he had to prove to the public that he was a man's man by having himself filmed while boxing, lifting weights and sword fighthing!

  • I've read "Beyond Paradise" and Andre Soares, the author, goes out of his way to show that this rumor is false.

  • lol

maybe i need to reread that book again!

or maybe i just want that "rumor" to be true!

  • ONe of the great war movies of all time...especially the end where the father visiting his sons grave in this huge cemetary says to this bearded young man who is supposed to be a Christ figure, "did you know my son?, then the man stretches his arms wide and in tears say "I knew them all" Very powerful moment in cinema history..

  • I don't know which is worse, ALL of the smoking or the bumfights prospects in the background!

Think of it! All those people are dead now...

    Too bad.

And so Rudy Valentino danced himself into immortality!

  • nice dancer...I like him very much (even if I'm not the best when talking about dance! :s)

  • BTW, she looks like SUCH a goth chick.

  • Rudolfo Valentino was a Taurus born May 6! And boy was he sensous and gorgeous. God bless your beautiful soul.

  • Ohhh... this man was so beautiful. Such grace when he dances here. So beautiful.

  • He makes my heart beat faster and faster. Ahhh, sweet mytery of love...don't wake me up, I am in a cloud... Ahhh...sigh.

  • Does anyone know the name of this tango music. I know it's not

LA CUMPARSITA, the tango that director Billy Wilder used in

SUNSET BOULEVARD and SOME LIKE IT HOT. Was this tango ever

released on 78 RPM , Vynil LPs or CD. Anyone know?

  • THIS is the True way to dance the tango...not the stupid machine-like way the people dance now...I wish I could show them all how the Tango is Meant to be danced. Like here by the beautiful Rudolph Valentino. What a gorgeous man.

  • "What a gorgeous man."

UR TELLING ME!! -drool- -drool- -drool-

  • HI - you are confusing ballroom tango which is now almost a mockery of real argentine tango - Argentine tango is very rich in terms of its origins, styles, music, poetry and ideals. there is a lot of excellent tango on youtube. try my favourites.

  • Valentino was a very talented dancer. A lot of feeling and passion. The best tango dance in the

history of the cinema. Secong runner-up. Al Pacino,

    in Scent of a Woman.

  • He is so SEXY. I wish i could have just one dance with him. A sexy dance. He is so dreamy.

  • OMG, I love Rudy!

He's the only man ever who could make smoking sexy!

80+ years on and he still makes hearts pound & pulses race!

  • cool vid XD

  • Fantastic - my Favorite of all time! Would love to see the Young Raja...sexy pics

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my clip of silent movie star tobacco cards. They include: Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Tom Mix, Jackie Coogan, Harold Lloyd and many more.

  • Whoa, Mama! And I thought the Banderas tango in Zorro was hot. So that's what all the yelling was about

back in the twenties. And I love the wink.

  • I wish they made a movie worthy of these stars

  • I Love Valentino!

  • mmhhhmmm, what a beautiful man he was....love him so much in blood and sand...

  • what a great scene...valentino was an amazing dancer!

  • oh my god

  • I love this man great lover very handsome

  • So handsome.

    So talented.

I remember seeing this movie when I was younger, I fell in love with him.

That tango scene started it all for me.

  • Rudolph Valentino (May 6, 1895 -- August 23, 1926) was an Italian actor. His nickname was "The Great Latin Lover". He was born in Castellaneta, Italy, to a middle-class family, the same year (1895) as the invention of the cinema.

At age 17, he moved to Paris and the following year he emigrated to New York, supporting himself, among other occupations, as a gardener, dishwasher, and tango dancer.

  • mayonnaise

  • Poor, poor Valentino. What a talented person.

    ~LilyRodgers~

  • What a beautiful and talented man!

  • The anrgentinian tango, what a dance!

  • Gorgeous! Valentino was very good looking!

  • What a great scene! Thanks for uploading this!
