  • So clever and lovely!!!!

  • あいさまのかのちゃんが、きてくれました。

  • You got my shoulders and neck out of control for 4'27

  • A couple other points. I saw a comment about this only being about mm=100 (which it is) and that the original was mm=148. I have two recordings of Benny Goodman's band on this and they do about mm=109, so this isn't that far off. Also, there is no rule about exact tempos in music. When I first heard this, I thought it was a little slow. The more I listen to it, the more it just seem right. The point of music in the emotions transmitted - and they've nailed that.

  • My research showed the girls did NOT know how to play the instruments. They started learning them 3 months before filming began. Filming started July 25. I believe this last scene was done in December. They are supposed to have played the music themselves but I would bet they they probably prerecorded it and essentially "dubbed" themselves - normal stuff to get the best sound. It is confirmed they could play by simply finding their "First and Last Concert" vids where they are performing live.

  • @d1bigkahuna There is no doubt they dubbed. If only from the standpoint of getting the sound right. Try playing live for multiple camera set up and you have SERIOUS editing problems. Then, imagine trying to get consistent sound! Oh, man, filming this would be near impossible without a week or two... for ONE segment of an inexpensive Japanese film? Never. Gotta play to pre-recorded and layer it on later.

  • This looks totally dubbed to me!

  • OK. Good. GRUP SARDANISTA BALÀFIA-LLEIDA -- catalonia -- spain. SARDANA.

  • I'm lovin it. Great job by these kids.

  • The movioe is "Swing Girls", made in 2004.

  • Yeah, it looks like it's dubbed. Don't know if these are the actual players or just actors in a film. (Wonder what movie it is?) @swifte546: if anything it's already a little fast. Go back and listen to the original. The drum solo is from Krupa. That's the way it is.

  • @JMShark00 The actors performed their own music for the film see Swing Girls in wikipedia

  • This could be my (early) favorite Feel Good video of 2012! Parts of it made me laugh out loud, and the music kicks butt!

  • This is from a movie. It's not them playing.

  • Great Musicians. The tonal quality is pretty good. I really enjoyed listening to it. I also made sure that I bookmarked into my favorites section on my computer.

They are TOTALLY AWESOME MUSICIANS....More please.......

I have only one suggestion..... Beef up the tempo a bit. It's a tad to slow and make the drum

    solo longer.

If this is avavailable on DVD, then I'm going to get a copy. If it's not, then make it aailable.

You will be most pleasantly surprised at how many you'll sell.

  • Wow! These girls are amazingly talented!! Love the solo at 3:02 - 3:22 .

  • THEY ARE AWESOME!!!

  • cool stuff :D

  • "I taught them, I taught them" says the professsor!

  • 若い頃手が赤くなるなるほどswingしていた頃を思い出させてくれます、nice!!!!!!

  • meh

  • are they actually playing it though?

  • @2010Kraftwerk yes^^

  • WOW,

  • この曲を聞かせたら、うちのアゲハの幼虫が踊り出しました。

  • this is sooo awesome! the players in this band are pretty darn good! I have played trombone for a incredibly long time and am pretty impressed! I wonder if they do concerts close to Hikone in Shiga Prefecture? Does anyone know?

  • @tallshipsailor08 sorry but I think they did only one live concert after they were done with the movie,, they all/most went on to other projects,,, I hope they still play for their own enjoyment

  • @joes0066 lol thanks.....i was just curious...i hope they still play too. to bad they only did one though

  • @tallshipsailor08 if u are interested there are 2 cd's out ,, one is music from movie,,, other is live concert they did in December,,, the dvd of the concert was out when I looked

  • this is sooo awesome! the players in this band are pretty darn good! I have played trombone for a incredibly long time and am pretty impressed! I wonder if they do concerts near Hikone? Does anyone know?

  • トランペットすごいです!!

    私はトランペットなんで、尊敬しちゃいますww

  • this is just amazing...beyond words. I'm speechless...which rarely happens.

Well done to teacher and students.

  • Simply AMAZING!

  • more cowbell!!! (LOL)

  • is the name of the song sing sing by the swing girls?

  • @JenniferCuppett The song is "Sing Sing Sing (with a Swing)" by Benny Goodman. The original is from ~1936. Definitely my favorite jazz/swing song of all time. Great replay for this show! <3

  • At 74 years of age, the Japanese still never cease to astonish me. The ensemble just swings and the solists play with such verve.

  • Amazing, and played well, i love it!!!!!!!!

  • Who would thunk it????? GREAT !!!

  • awesome

  • Yes, it's from a 2004 Japanese movie called, "Swing Girls".

  • Yes, it's from a 2004 Japanese movie called, "Swing Girls".

  • I hope this was a real girls group that was written into a movie, rather than a pure movie creation.

  • There are two kinds of people in the world: people who swing and people who don't.

  • When I see the girls smile at the end of this wonderful feel good movie, "Swing Girls", I cannot help smiling.

  • Sounds great!

  • Tp高いB♭まで出るとか

    すごすぎ!!

  • я в шоке))))кино даж норм не смогли снять)

  • I love swing!

  • AWESOME!!! I love it and the girls are sexy.

  • SOUNDS GOOD TO ME....................JAZZMAN JOE

  • まぁ正直うまくはないわなwww俺よりはうまいけども・・・orz

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Outstanding !

    I Cr 13:8a

  • These girls are pretty good, but they definitely are NOT "swinging." Technically, the music is alright but there is no "there" there. And maybe they've never heard the original "Sing Sing Sing" which has a mm of 148. This one is super-slow - guessing around 104. It's okay.

  • @youngetal GET A LIFE. They are GREAT and don't need any sour puss critics raking them over the coals.

  • @youngetal Sheesh, there's always one. They're playing a music and instruments not native to their culture and they pull it off (yes, they're really playing, though some just learned). And the original "SSS' in the studio was a lot slower than the Carnegie Hall concert. There's no minimum meter requirement for swing. "In The Mood?" About the same tempo. Maybe slightly faster. Swing or not swing? It's just supposed to bring you to your feet. Way before my time, but I love it. And these girls.

  • Lol.....if I were a mouse, I would have crawled out of that trumpet, too!

  • Some of these comments are sick!

  • so they like the music...

  • Almost shed a tear...

  • lol at 0:26 the guy starts on the offbeats and everyone follows

    :]

  • @OprahMemorizedPi yeahh hahahja

  • @OprahMemorizedPi Nah he didn't clap offbeat. The swing girls are playing jazz and jazz beats are offbeat lol.

  • @bowlheart huh? All music has onbeats and offbeats @OprahMemorizedPi is right, everyone was clapping on the onbeat and the guy at 0:26 started clapping on the offbeat which you then hear the crowd doing immediately after.

  • @OprahMemorizedPi I've never seen a real audience clap on the offbeat, even when one brave soul starts it. It's always irritated me. This is from a film, isn't it? What's it called and where can I get hold of a copy?

  • @OprahMemorizedPi

Have you ever played Jazz? Emphasis on 2 and 4!

  • Comment removed

  • I especially like Yukari Toyoshima that quirky drummer!

  • gOOD WORK

  • ねずみww

  • 上野じゅりさんが、足をドンドンしてるのは気に入らないけど、

    Tbのソロは最高!

  • if you disliked this you don't swing

  • wow

  • Very well done!

  • Holy mother of god.

  • Even if the playing is not "real" it is still an entertaining video...the title of the video might have been better chosen though.

  • 百看不厭

  • Why does the world seem to only know like two swing songs? The only one you ever hear in the mainstream is this one and "It don't mean a thing, if you ain't got that swing".

  • epicness!!!! XD japan totally pwns america~!

  • What I see in this excellent performance, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

  • i play trombone BUT NOT THIS GOOD

  • its hard to sit still, love this

  • To Anchoralan - is Louis Prima really your father?? OMG my husband and I were his biggest fans here in Toronto. What an amazing legacy he left you. He was an original talent and we just loved him. Thanks for sharing that news. Peggy in Toronto.

  • @houndlady1 I'm with you on young talent; these youngsters are playing one of my favorite pieces my Dad used to play. Have you heard about the Toronto All Star Big Band? All youngsters playing big band music like we used to hear. They guested recently at The Glen Miller Orchestra event in US. FYI

  • SING-SING-SING.... written by Louis Prima, my father. It STILL rocks!!!

  • B R A V O !

  • Are there more excerpts from the film that could be posted? These are truly talented young people, and of course; it's evident that they love what they are doing. Great music...who wrote it?

  • Incredible!

  • THIS IS AMAZING!! HOW OLD ARE THESE PEOPLE!!???

  • The only thing missing was the dancing in the aisles! I especially liked the girl that played Benny's solo on the trumpet...

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beyond Incredible.... from this swing fanatic!

  • They are a great group of muscians. Glad they are so diverse and seem to enjoy it so much.

  • Absolutely marvelous toe tapping and feel good. Such wonderful talented youth! Bring it on to the world!

  • It is wonderful. I'm sure this raises the spirits of the japanese people today.

  • AMAZING!!!

  • I guess 12 people couldn't get into this?

  • Every now and then ones sees something rather special, this is one of those times

  • amazing really amazing

  • Amazing, Tx

  • I´m glad someone else noticed the drummer too :-). I really enjoy good drumming and you don´t even see the best of her in this clip. Check out the live concert they made after the film to prove they actually did learn to play the instruments. Not as polished as in the film, perhaps, but I for once feel great and having a big smile when seeing and listening to them. Have a wonderfull summer all of you!

  • This is great . I have a degree in music . These young adults are very great . This is better than almost any bands here in the United States . I liked all of them very much , But the drummer was very good . This group made my day . I will be sending this all over the world . Also my old instructors .

  • awsumness:)

  • get up and fucking dancE!

  • usic IS the universal language and I understand this very well!

Music is not a universal language. I hate it when people say this. At the very basic level, just think about it. The jazz that I play in the United States has absolutely no meaning or reference points to tribes in Brazil who have never seen white men, in the same way that music from Outer Mongolia means nothing to me. It doesn't speak to me the same way that music that I am familiar with does.

  • @godthaabb

It may not speak to you in the same way, but it still speaks to you. :)

  • Sing Sing Sing is not the black experience, yoyo!

Good man and the orchestra are all white though he was the first white kazzman to add black musicians to his groups!

    Don't be so white bread!

  • This is great fun but it's a movie, not a real group of kids playing.....

  • where is the record player at ?

  • When a society doesn't embrace the black experience you can copy them but it lacks soul as this clip proves

  • Wow ! Terrific and what true joy. Thank you for posting this fun, fun video clip! Made my day :).

  • It's so great to see not only the youngsters, but Japanese youngsters enjoying the great American art form that is JAZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • this is just toooooooooooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the thrill of it

  • I'm 80. I love Basie and Beethoven, Ellington and Elgar, baroque and boogie, and the Austin Lounge Lizards. These girls go into my permanent YouTube file,

  • @chimos2 I couldn't agree with you more!!

  • This is so surreal, it's like they're not playing... I just cannot imagine Japanese schoolgirls playing big band jazz. The world needs more of them for sure, to say the least!

  • they got it going! now turn em loose on some Basie ...yikes ...good playing...

  • they got it going! now turn em loose on some Basie

  • Fabulous. But why not clarinet? After all, Benny Goodman and his band is the one who made this piece immortal.

  • According to Wikipedia the actors are playing the music even though some of them had only trained for five months.

  • @dgeugene

    phonies eh?

  • Sorry to tell you all, but this is a staged gig,not real players.Watch how the musicians improperly finger there instuments, especially the bass guitarist. Its a Milli Vinelli gig all the way.Nothing is in sink or precise to the sound track. Its Fun but not a real perfomance.

  • Fantastic!

  • Fabulous, fun and joyful. These kids have talent, but beyond that they love what they are doing. It was great to see the curious looks of the audience turn into focused at oneness with the band.

  • It's because they're Asian. But very good job! :)

  • I bet Benny Goodman was tapping away to this. They play with obvious flair, and understand how this work should be played. And these are young people, who said they don't care for big band music. Bravo.

  • boaring i fell a sleep!!!!!!!

  • @yo9780 Yes, you should definitely not be listening to music on the Internet. You should be sitting up late learning how to SPELL!

  • What happened to music? Great to see young people playing real music.

  • Music is truly the universal language

  • Very kewl!!!

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • trombone girl gives me a tromboner

  • Really fine musicians. and really cool music.

    msweeney

  • God Bless them all. I really enjoyed the whole session, and would love to see more by them.

  • I loved it! These kids are great & it takes me back to the "good old days".

  • Fantastic! This music is immortal.... it would make a Martian swing.

  • Too cool for school! Bravo!

  • I'm no fan of big bands, but I greatly enjoyed these impressive young ladies and their accomplished, swinging big band. Congratulations!

  • "Jazz... It's cooler than I thought."

  • Great video, thanks for posting.

  • Very cool. Love it!

  • Very cool. Love it!

  • Great music. I can't get enough of these lovely talented ladies!!!!

  • marching band --> I hate the trumpets' posture!! but they play great so whatever

  • Music played well is cool, no matter which genre. these ladies/students/musicians play excellently!!

  • @selamarina Swing Girls (japanische Film)

  • The world famous Japanese schoolgirl! What can't they do?? I like the one in the glasses and pixie hair belting out that trombone. She would make Jack Teagarden proud!!

  • @Greg98233 関口香織(トロンボーン):本仮屋ユイカ

  • Great music from Benny Goodman. These girls are great!!! I cant get enough of them. Realy ironic. This is the music that was played to our troops in the 40's for a piece of morral under Emperor Hirohito. I am so happy that the Japanese swing girls are playing this now. The old days are over. Let's move forward and have some fun!!!!

  • @gltmeredith In October 2004, in New York, American movie "Swing Girls"and the band accompanied the first to preview overseas, we first overseas performances. Furthermore, in November, the city movie "American Film Market" according to the exhibition accompanied to Los Angeles. Showed a performance at the venue.

  • according to Wikipedia it is a 2004 Japanese comedy and the actors it seems play the music - suppose it's possible

  • How much fun we can have with fantasy??

MORE SO, do you see how people can NOT KNOW if this is a great feat of technological wizardry or a real event & feat of high school performance??

While fun & enjoyable, this beautifully illustrates, 'just 'cuz you can see, be moved by it," etc. does NOT mean it's real, far from it.

How important it is to keep our wits about us, especially as we surf the web & live a life, that itself, is a virtual reality experience! SELFGnosis org tunes-in

  • I agree with SuperBalckSax. This is nothing more than a "lip sync" from a studio track. If the girls did the original, then great for them, but judging by the fingering of the brass and guitarists, they didn't have a clue how to play the instruments.

  • Who cares if there bands in UK -USA or anywhere that can do this the same or better it is still fantastic to see the music of my youth alive & well 80 years later.

I bet Justin whoever wont be around on the scene in 20 let alone 80 years GREAT STUFF keep it LIVE.

  • No, this is not real! The title of the clip informs us that it is from a movie. Also, look at the tenor player when she plays her solo - look at her fingers. No way she is playing the horn.

  • @SuperBlackSax The official name of the band, "Swing Girls & a Boy. " In short, "Swing" is also called. In the play the movie, which was formed through the twists and turns Suuingujazubiggubando from brass band led a pinch of food poisoning can no longer play. One of the boys and 16 girls high school freshmen longing, which consists of 17 total

  • @SuperBlackSax Musical instrument training starting in May 2003, the summer edition of the shooting in the 25th District, Yamagata Prefecture Okitama July 2003 after a fierce three-month intensive training camp and about two degrees in June and July Welcome. Performance practice is continuing in parallel with the shooting of the film after shooting summer edition in mid-August last shot in the movie hall of music

  • is this for real?

  • Excellent, they should all be proud.
