I screwed up a couple of pieces last week and ended up putting faces on them with clay from the wheel trough. Unfortunately, my mistakes may be more interesting than mu successes.
I'm assuming this wouldn't work for wooden batts would it? Since the wood dries out and the clay falls right off. Unless you were to babysit it a little... Maybe I will try this some time at school! It's a very creative idea! thanks!
I can't thank you enough for such a great idea. I had one flop and I let it sit overnight and when I turned it back over the next morning, it looked like a perfectly shaped star, but instead of it being sharp, it had rounded points. I LOVE it!!! Thank you so much for this idea.
Thank you Thank you what a wonderful idea and now a whole new creative idea in clay is born LOL. I can see in studios across the world hanging flopped pots everywhere.
@DavidsGem It's funny that you say that about the hanging flopped pots. I did a workshop at a college a while back and demonstrated the technique, someone told me later that there were pots hanging all around the classroom. Thank you for your comments.
Thanks again, I had a bowl flop on me today and I tried this and it worked like a charm and this "flopped" bowl ended up being one of the best looking pieces I had for the critique.
Thank you so much, this is a great idea. I have just started throwing for the first time during the past month or two in my ceramics class and I have had plenty of flopped bowl and I didnt think they were fixable so I just cut the walls off and end up making really small bowls with whats left of the base, but this idea will help me so much now. Thanks again.
This is a great technique. I teach a unit of pottery to my ms students and as you can imagine there are many flopped bowls that we will be able to try this techniques.
I am so glad I watched this video a while back, as I had a bowl collapse the other day. No problem, I used your advice and now have the most beautifully shaped bowel, it is in the bisque fire right now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

@muditsallabout I'm glad it worked out for you. Try different shapes, especially wide forms, and see what you get.

What kind of clay did you use for this?
ImCuRaa 2 months ago
Wouldnt it be easier to just mush it back into unused clay and remake it..?
HellHound60248 3 months ago
@HellHound60248 You can get some really cool "loose" pots using this method, as well as saving the flopped pot.

@DCuzick Hm, alright. and also, Kudos to you for responding to people in a video you made a year ago.
