Yes, Pakistani F16s don't have AESA radars and their BVR missiles are just 120 C5 version !! It is a political decision now !! India might go for Mig 35s for the Air force and F18s for the Navy. Whatever the jet is, it should have AESA radar and latest version of BVR missiles !!
India might go for AIM 120-D (range 200 kms) series of AMRAAM BVR missiles, if F18s are chosen !! F16s can be relatively cheap but it is not just about the price !! Pakistan's AMRAAM AIM 120C5 missile has a range of 100 to 105 kms.

In one of his open letter, he says that the military aircraft engine production has been the chronic illness in Chinese aviation industry and he urges that the solving of Taihang WS-10 Turbofan engine is the key step to reinforce the Quality Control Procedure in AVIC.
Now PLA Air Force has installed some WS-10 engine on its J-11B dual-engine heavy fighters for evaluation. But the result is not positive either. WS-10 on J10 is an utter failure too.

PLAAF still depends on 300 AL-31 F russian engines which were imported in 2005.
The forced landing accidents are already killing PLAAF's J10s and J11 fleets. No combat aircraft after all can fight without reliable engines.

I think India has the advantage, as it's not barred by the US and in turn, NATO countries for technolgies transfers. While China only has the cold war handicap Russia (they did get a little love from Israel for a short while until US found out), India can access both US and Russia.

I think it's fairly odd to compare fighter power given the situation in each country..china, for lengthy periods didn't have access to soviet technologies due to hostilities between USSR and Chinese regimes since the 70's.. and forget about access to western planes.. India get's both.. india too has fought 3 main wars with Pakistan including numerous standoffs plus it's surrounded with hostile neighbours.. China meanwhile uses it's air force to intimidate smaller countries..simple

Yes, Pakistani F16s don't have AESA radars and their BVR missiles are just 120 C5 version !! It is a political decision now !! India might go for Mig 35s for the Air force and F18s for the Navy. Whatever the jet is, it should have AESA radar and latest version of BVR missiles !!

1.India has RV-77 BVR missiles. It's maximum range is 100 kms.(Active radar)
2.India also have R-27 RE1 (range 70 kms, semi-active radar) and R27 TE1 (range 130 kms, Infrared homing)
3.India is working on Astra BVR missiles and its range is 80kms.
4.There is a secret project with russia to develop R-172 missile (anti-AWACS). Its range is around 300 to 350kms.

India might go for AIM 120-D (range 200 kms) series of AMRAAM BVR missiles, if F18s are chosen !! F16s can be relatively cheap but it is not just about the price !! Pakistan's AMRAAM AIM 120C5 missile has a range of 100 to 105 kms.

US helped PLAAF till 1995 to upgrade their fighter jets avionics like J8s. But since 1995, it has been downhill for PLAAF. It is not enough, if you just mass produce BVRs, while the avionics are 20 to 30 yrs old. Nothing can compensate real war experince. So, lack of experience coupled with obsolete weapons can be dangerous for any country to go to war. It reminds me of operation Barborosa, when russia had outdated 40,000 tanks, 25,000 fighter jets. In the end only winter saved Russia !!
