  • A few minutes ago,I finally made my first boutique fanned diaper cake. In the past I had always made mine rolled up and wanted to try it your way. I even purchased the pans last year and keep thinking it was too difficult. But since I have a baby shower on this Sunday.... I figured why not... and did it. I still need a little more practice. .. I will sent u a pic of it soon. and you can be the judge of that. Thanks for making the video... I have watched it many times.

  • beautifully done, i make diaper cakes too, just starting a business! your cakes are beautiful

  • Thank you soooo much for this! I am not an artsy crafty type but your method made my cake for my girlfriend beautiful! Also- the music is very soothing when you are working!

  • where can i buy the baby bears from

  • What size is the pizza pan used in this video?

  • So how were you able to prevent the tiers from separating from eachother??

  • Thank you soo much for posting your video, it truly is done professionally!

  • I love this method! I have made diaper cakes before that have come out beautiful but the rubber bands were such a hassle, this solves that problem and makes it look very professional. Thank you so much :-)

  • This may sound weird but I might have to ship my cake how do I make it so the top tiers stay on "TOP" of the cake evenly?

  • So how do i figure out how many diapers i need if i want to make a bigger much bigger diaper cake? I am wanting to make one that is start about 3 ft round base and work up to 10 tiers or more. Crazy question i am going to post the process & the finished product. I am going to use newborn to size 3 diapers. With lots of goodies..

  • @jenilynn3441 Honestly, I am not sure how you will do this. We have found that 6 or 7 tiers is as big as we can go and still have a bottom tier sound enough to support all the upper tiers. If you are using a big 3 Foot Platter underneath the cake that would be okay, I guess.

You are probably looking at HUNDREDS of diapers for a cake this size. Our 6 Tier cakes have about 200 diapers and are approximately 16 inches across. A 3 Foot base would mean around 200 diapers in that bottom tier.

  • @jenilynn3441 Also, be aware that the new parents won't need TONS of newborn diapers. Put some in there but them include some Size 1 Diapers, too. You want all of your cake to be useable by the new parents :) I, personally, wound't put more than 100 newborn diapers on the cake. They will probably come home with a package or two from the hospital and then baby will be ready for Size 1 by the 2 week old stage!

  • Ok - so how does the formula work?? I can't figure it out?

  • @heartlightexpress It's a proportion. The top tier is x. The 2nd tier is 2x. The 3rd tier is 3x, etc..... So if you are making a 4 Tier cake and you have 100 diapers....add 1 to 2 to 3 to 4=10. Ten diapers on top tier. Twenty on 2nd tier. Thirty on 3rd tier. Forty on bottom tier. If you have 110 diaeprs....Eleven on Top, Twenty-two on 2nd, Thirty-three on 3rd, Forty-four on bottom.

  • thank you i think i will try to make one i am having a baby and i know 4 other girls who are also having children and this would be a nice gift.......................if you ever decide to make a video of you doing it i would love to see it thanx!!!!!!!!

  • So I want to do a 4 tier cake how many diapers should I use in the top tier? 8?

  • @lvfer07 If you use the formula 1:2:3:4.....I would say 8 on the top tier, 16 on the next, 24 on the next, 32 on the bottom. 78 total. This, might, actually be a bit small. A better proportion might be 10:20:30:40. This would give you a bigger top and take a total of 100 diapers which is about what we have in our professional cakes through our website!

Good luck and I am sure you'll make a beautiful cake!

  • This is the best instructional video I have seen. I am looking forward to giving your technique a try.

  • Can I make this diaper cake a week before the baby shower and just store it away in a closet? Does anyone know if I can or should I wait for that weekend to make it? Thanks so much!!!

  • @klawhon1 Can definately make and store. We recommend wrapping in in cellophane or a platic bag. Diapers absorb odors so try to keep it in as clean an environment as possible!

  • This is great!!!~ I've been looking for insturctions for diaper cake without using rubber band... I can not wait to make it!!!~ Thank you!!!

  • Thank you...love this style of diaper cake...absolutely beautiful.

Been looking for instructions for this style of diaper cake.....so professional, stylish....my daughter-inlaw will absolutely love at her baby shower in two weeks time....woohoo...many thanx.

  • I had been searching how to make this cake and couldnt find anything So thanks so much for posting your video. I was glad i found this video and that you share your great ideas unlike people who just want to make money off others. Thanks so much i loook foward to trying this new form of diaper cakes.

  • Wow, this actually works! With your help I made my first cake ever and it looked wonderful. Thank you so much!

  • @98thStreet :)

  • I thought I would need a video too- especially showing how you fanned them all. I pulled out a can of soup and just started layering them like you said. I cut the ribbon beforehand really long so that it would be ready to go. It just came together. It worked JUST like you said it would. My 1st layer looks just like yours and it took me 10 minutes to make it if that! WAY easier and more professional looking than the wrapped ones IMO. THANKS!

  • @Tony31280 So glad to know the video worked for you!

  • Love this instructional video...one of the better ones in diaper cake making. Thank you

  • This is the kind of diaper cake I want to make! I made rolled ones in the past only cause I didn't know how to make this one. I still don't understand how to make it though. I wish there was an actual video and not just a slide show.

  • how tall and wide is a 3 tier diaper cake anyway?

  • I agree w/ Michelle. This version of the diaper cake seems way more elegant. ... and where did you get those letter blocks? Your cakes are georgeous. Do you sell them?

  • Where did u get the cute letter blocks that spell the names? I like your version of the diaper cake so much more than rolling and banding! Hope I can get a diaper cake completed for Sat!

  • I used bands for my diapers but, they were the very tiny bands used for braiding hair so, I did'nt have to band them a whole bunch of times just slipped them on carefully so the bands would not break . They are very delicate and are not hard on the diapers.

  • Man, I really could have used this video last week. I have already rolled all of those diapers and the cake is done. It still looks adorable. I used recieving blankets to cover up the rolls. Can't wait to show it. But, next time I'll try it this way.

  • Now this is a *Diaper Cake*.

Smooth and elegant and not rolled up and complicated and gaudy!

    Thanks for this wonderful video.

    Thanks for this wonderful video.

  • Thanks so much Becca! I've been researching diaper cake instructions for a while now, and yours by far is the most informative, and most like the diaper cake I'll be making for my daughter's baby shower coming up next month. I'm so excited to make it! Thank you so much for posting this; you were a great help. God bless!

  • I made this cake and it was so very easy! After watching tons of "how to" videos this cake gave the directions simply and clearly. I love my cake! Also, I used double sided tape and it works just fine! Great cake! I have a picture I will try to post!

  • Thanks! It shouldn't be a problem, i just wanted to make sure that it was normal...She has a 2 yr old daughter already so that was my main worry. :-) but as long as it's out of reach of little hands, we'll be fine.

  • Ok so my top tier wants to go places....am I doing something wrong?

  • No, you are not doing anything wrong. Typically I do not like my tiers to be attached as a tightly packed tier does not need to be attached (they travel easier this way.....because tiers can be separated). If you are worried....you can use dowel rods, feeding spoons, or lengths of ribbon to connect your top tier to the rest of the cake. (Hope that helps!)

  • Does anybody know how to get the stuffed animal to stay on top of the diaper cake?

  • If I had to guess I would say they used diaper pins to secure everything in place, including the animals topper. But I can't speak for anyone else, that's just me.

  • Diaper pins or colorful links that are attached to the animal can then be tucked down into the diapers of that top tier.

  • THank you for the very clear and concise instructions. It made making the diaper cake for a friend so simple and it took less than 5 minutes to make the three tiers. Now I have to figure out how to arrange the accessories- but this is so much better than individually rolled diapers! I wish someone would make one for me!!!! :)

  • i LOVE that you do not roll up your diapers!! I was thinking, wow that would take forever to undo all those diapers, and they wouldn't stack very well-- both pains in the butt-- especially when you have a newborn!! (i know) :) so thanks for this video-- your cakes are awesome. i will be attempting one as soon as i can!!

  • Thank you Becca! Your methods are so much better than any other I researched to make a wonderful diaper cake. Since there is no rubber bands or tape holding the diapers, it makes them so much easier for mom to take out when used. Your method is the best and thank you for the step by step instructions. WONDERFUL!!!!

  • I really like this type of diaper cake versus the rolled diaper ones. It looks better and is also easier to make. Thank you for the great video, it really helped me with this process. It is easier than it looks. Your diaper cakes are so adorable!

  • I thought i might need a video too but when I actually got into the process it was simple. Thank you so much for the "How To" presentation.I used a round party tray I purchased at the dollar tree for my base. The cake fits perfectly in it and I won't loose that much money by keeping the tray with the cake for support. I used items that were on the baby shower list. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for showing the smooth icing cake instructions. I'd been looking for them. The smooth looks more professional than the rolled diapers and I'd think it would take less time, too. Good tips & common sense not everyone thinks about. I agree with not going cheap on anything or overdoing it so it's like "baby shower vomit" as one person put it. LOL

  • i liked how you kept them simple, there are a lot that look like baby shower vomit...lol

  • ty very much for this video i've searched the web for months for the 3 tier smooth icing cake THANKS once again

  • I absolutely LOVE ur diaper cakes...how did u get the stuffed animals to stay on top w/o damaging the diapers??

  • I've been thinking about doing a diaper cake for my SIL's baby shower and was looking for a neat idea as far as design...When I saw your syle,it looked more professional and just cleaner than the 'rolled up' kind...I will deffinently try it now :)

    Thank you!

  • Great information in a professional presentation. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.

  • This was THE MOST USEFUL video to help me make my diaper cake. Thank you for the pictures AND the step-by-step directions...definitely easy to follow. =) Great tips too!

  • Wish it was live video but the photos were great and the instructins clear and I LOVE this style of diaper cake. Some videos the cakes look sloppy but yours looks clean and professional. Now lets see if I can do it, too! Wish me luck.

  • i prefer rolling the diapers up. but i'd never thought about this way (:

its a great way to do it :)
