Staying Safe on the Roads: Bike Safety at Duke

I am not a fan of bike lanes since they force you to ride unsafely in the door zone. Also drivers pay less attention to bike in bike lanes and pass unnecessarily close. In some cases, multi-tasking drivers will drift into bike lanes. Also bike lanes often are unswept and accumulate alot of broken glass and debris.

Best to ride like a vehicle, close to center of the traffic lane. Then cars will be forced to slow down and pass you safely like they would any other slow-moving vehicle.
