I wouldn't mind humans playing a role in a Sonic TV series just like they do in the games, but when you come up with major and annoying characters for Sonic X, you know the show just sucks. I only hope for a new Sonic TV series like this original pilot.
@SonicFanJamie 4Kids translates, dubs and promotes the show, and that's about it. From a creative standpoint 4Kids is only responsible for the English audio and whatever they decide to edit from the video (which has been notoriously questionable to put it lightly). You seem to be confusing 4Kids for an animation studio, THEY ARE NOT!
They need to make a CG Sonic series set ENTIRELY in the games' universe while still having original storylines. Also there can be more humans just as long as Eggman/Robotnik is the only recurring one (and as long as the humans look more in place with the setting like they did in Unleashed).
@MetalShadowX i agree with your comment. sonics (comic) universe is set on mobius (a future earth) it has both humans and mobians and the comic series used to follow the game series as well. personally i believe that the show should have gone this way rather than the way it did as well as the video game plots. all together the series would have stayed on longer if they used all of the video games story lines.
@Bowmaj21 The planet's name being Mobius came from the American SEGA Genesis manuals, though, which is part of why it's so persistent. The other part is that it was used in the Archie comics, which should have ended ages ago back when Robuttnik died. Ding-Dong, the witch is dead, everybody's deroboticized and they get the king back, happy end. You know, everything they had been building up to and working for. Ugh.
After watching this, I really wished that the show was like this instead of a show being about Chris and other humans. And co-starring Sonic and his friends. :/
This is extremely cool! I can't believe that there were citizens as animals in the pilot! I love the proper show of Sonic X, but I think maybe they should've included the animal citizens in as well. But whichever way, I still love the show!
Ok, I have to say this because it really irritates me when people say "There should be no humans in Sonic!" DOCTOR EGGMAN IS A HUMAN! People seem to forget that!

Sonic X was actually an anime series since japan funded and made the series when they changed the original pilot *the one before humans were there just like in the comic* Like most *or all* anime series they get the plot from a manga *comic* if you read the early comics you will actually see every event from sonic x except the fillers. @Bowmaj21 He really isn't. Let me try to clarify what he is saying. He's talking about the old Sonic comic that came with the first game back in 1991 in America and is somehow trying to relate the mutation Dr. Robotnik went through to the the fact he isn't apparently human.
This comic was "canon" way back when, but was retconned when SA2 came in.
Communications between the Japanese and American studios were never the best, so the Americans didn't really know what the story was, so they assumed that there was none so they started making up their own, with a comic to go with it.
Well, to be fair, there really wasn't much of a story at the time, other than "Dr. Eggman is kidnapping small animals and turning them into robots to take over the world and Sonic has to stop him!"
So all the comics and TV series pretty much had to make up their own plots, which is where the confusion comes from!

A couple more humans among the core group honestly wouldn't bug me. Where I want to see a few less humans and more anthropomorphic animals is the extras.

Actually, I don't mind the idea of humans and Mobians co-existing in a Sonic cartoon. AS LONG AS CHRIS THORNDIKE DOESN'T EXIST, that is. But I agree with everyone else, that voice-over is just silly.
Sonic X became hated because of the gross overuse of Chris Thorndyke, who stole scenes right and left from Tails and contributed nothing that couldn't have been handled better with Tails except for the fact that Chris was rich. It's extremely difficult to make a rich character interesting and with Chris they failed miserably. It would have been better to toss Chris, have Tails start out pathetic, and gradually show him become Sonic's best friend and a hero himself.
The pilot is better than anime in some ways, but I want to ask logical question for you fans. If you don't like humans in Sonic series, what's Eggman/Robotnik supposed to be? Don't get mad. I understand that obvious and general problem is that characters would be just badly developed, useless or are just annoying just like Chris, which broke entertainming of series. Remember, making a good human character is not impossible. It's have to be believable, likable and make sense.
@MechaRainbow This has been pretty much expected. Eggman's robot origin is originally from the american media, television series and comic books. There's many incarnations of this character, so your note is understandable. And yes, I actually have read comics.
What I'm talking about is japanese version of Eggman/Robotnik who appeared in games, OVA and Sonic X. He's understood to be human mechanic scientist in those.
@Brickman274 Part of it is the stick up Alfred Kahn's ass, part of it is censorship issues due to the fact that the network gave it a lot more scrutiny than they did Power Rangers. The series also suffered from really godawful timing, like RID did, and lacked the Grandfather Clause benefit.
@Brickman274 Um 4kids did mess up the Dub but the show is still the same in the Japanese version apart from there being better music, better dialouge, more violence and sexual situations, and better characterization (Chris is a much better and much more lovable character in the Japanese version.)

I never said sexuality did make it better. and the characters were much better in the Japanese version. You just must not have hearing abilities because Chris's voice is very adorable in the Japanese version. The Japanese version is a very great anime and Chris makes this show cool and original.

I may have been okay with Sonic X as it is now...Though, I agree that it would've been more interesting if Sonic X was based more on the original pilot.
If you watch the OVA Sonic the Hedgehog, it gives a much crappier cowboy knuckles, but it also mentions him as a treasure hunter, so maybe somewhere in his back story, he is.
@atomofish I like Sonic Underground better. Even in the original Japanese version Sonic X isn't that great. The animators didn't research Sonic and Shadow before drawing the model sheets for them, and it suffers from the "Leave The Camera Running" problem, hence the insertion of all those inner monologues.
@Inufan20 It's not been stated. Sonic and Tails are very good friends yes but they never have had a brotherly bond in the Games and Sonic X like they do in SatAM and Archie comics. Chris on the other hand is different because in the Japanese version Sonic has stated himself that Chris is his best friend.
@BartmanBegins Sega had nothing to do with this. TMS changed it because the Sonic games now take place on Earth and they could work within the new Sonic canon to appeal to newer fans.
Chris was added because at the time, kids anime had a popular trend of adding human kids as main characters. See Transformers Armada for the prime example.
Also, would it really be a big difference if the humans were animals instead? They're still humanoid and probably would still have the parts the humans have.
@CCrockyourass No Sonic Team created the anime and many of the characters. Everything that happens in Sonic X is what Sonic Team decided is canon to the storyline.
@CCrockyourass Uh yeah look it up. Sonic X was created by Sonic Team and Sonic Project and broadcasted by TMS Entertainment, Chris, Danny, Francis, Helen, Cosmo, and Molly were all chracters that Sonic Team created personally.
@BartmanBegins One more thing: this promo wasn't ever meant to be the real Sonic X. It was just a concept idea, a demonstration of what TMS could do for a Sonic anime. This wasn't set in stone by any means. In fact Sonic X first started as an adaptation of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, nothing more.

You are talking about the Fleetway's Sonic the Comic's backstory for Sonic and Robotnik, but that isn't how it happened in the games!
Seriously, in the games you will never hear Sonic saying things like "Hey, remember when Dr. Ovi Kintobor turned into the evil Dr. Ivo Robotnik?" because those events didn't happen in the game! He wouldn't say "I wonder what Chris Thorndyke is up to!" because Chris isn't part of the game universe!

@Bowmaj21 He really isn't. Let me try to clarify what he is saying. He's talking about the old Sonic comic that came with the first game back in 1991 in America and is somehow trying to relate the mutation Dr. Robotnik went through to the the fact he isn't apparently human.
This comic was "canon" way back when, but was retconned when SA2 came in.

Communications between the Japanese and American studios were never the best, so the Americans didn't really know what the story was, so they assumed that there was none so they started making up their own, with a comic to go with it.

Well, to be fair, there really wasn't much of a story at the time, other than "Dr. Eggman is kidnapping small animals and turning them into robots to take over the world and Sonic has to stop him!"
So all the comics and TV series pretty much had to make up their own plots, which is where the confusion comes from!

A couple more humans among the core group honestly wouldn't bug me. Where I want to see a few less humans and more anthropomorphic animals is the extras.

Sonic X became hated because of the gross overuse of Chris Thorndyke, who stole scenes right and left from Tails and contributed nothing that couldn't have been handled better with Tails except for the fact that Chris was rich. It's extremely difficult to make a rich character interesting and with Chris they failed miserably. It would have been better to toss Chris, have Tails start out pathetic, and gradually show him become Sonic's best friend and a hero himself.

The pilot is better than anime in some ways, but I want to ask logical question for you fans. If you don't like humans in Sonic series, what's Eggman/Robotnik supposed to be? Don't get mad. I understand that obvious and general problem is that characters would be just badly developed, useless or are just annoying just like Chris, which broke entertainming of series. Remember, making a good human character is not impossible. It's have to be believable, likable and make sense.

What I'm talking about is japanese version of Eggman/Robotnik who appeared in games, OVA and Sonic X. He's understood to be human mechanic scientist in those.

@Brickman274 Part of it is the stick up Alfred Kahn's ass, part of it is censorship issues due to the fact that the network gave it a lot more scrutiny than they did Power Rangers. The series also suffered from really godawful timing, like RID did, and lacked the Grandfather Clause benefit.

@Brickman274 Um 4kids did mess up the Dub but the show is still the same in the Japanese version apart from there being better music, better dialouge, more violence and sexual situations, and better characterization (Chris is a much better and much more lovable character in the Japanese version.)

I never said sexuality did make it better. and the characters were much better in the Japanese version. You just must not have hearing abilities because Chris's voice is very adorable in the Japanese version. The Japanese version is a very great anime and Chris makes this show cool and original.

@atomofish I like Sonic Underground better. Even in the original Japanese version Sonic X isn't that great. The animators didn't research Sonic and Shadow before drawing the model sheets for them, and it suffers from the "Leave The Camera Running" problem, hence the insertion of all those inner monologues.

@Inufan20 It's not been stated. Sonic and Tails are very good friends yes but they never have had a brotherly bond in the Games and Sonic X like they do in SatAM and Archie comics. Chris on the other hand is different because in the Japanese version Sonic has stated himself that Chris is his best friend.

@BartmanBegins Sega had nothing to do with this. TMS changed it because the Sonic games now take place on Earth and they could work within the new Sonic canon to appeal to newer fans.
Chris was added because at the time, kids anime had a popular trend of adding human kids as main characters. See Transformers Armada for the prime example.
Also, would it really be a big difference if the humans were animals instead? They're still humanoid and probably would still have the parts the humans have.

@BartmanBegins One more thing: this promo wasn't ever meant to be the real Sonic X. It was just a concept idea, a demonstration of what TMS could do for a Sonic anime. This wasn't set in stone by any means. In fact Sonic X first started as an adaptation of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, nothing more.
