These young nerds seem to get the "wohins" right! This aria is so bloody hard to sing even for the choir. Our conductor didn't even bother about the right notes, he was just glad when they came at about the right time.
@Mattegsels I used to be a chorister Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Oxford...and without talking myself and the choir up too much the Wohins aren't THAT hard. Also don't call the kids nerds.
That conductor is called Harnoncourt and is famous for his work particullarly baroque music - so, yes please - it shall affect the performers - that's why the conductor is there but he is a very focused, kind of no-nonsense guy... known for his accuracy and doing things the other way than the mass.
you don't like it....but those players are there because they believe in him, and there are very good reasons why they do. Like or don't like what you want, don't expect a scholar and a musician like him to conduct like choral conductor.

I prefer several recordings of this particular aria to this one, but let's not forget that the singers are boy trebles, not altogether very experienced and necessitating delicacy. I do enjoy many boy choirs; perhaps they, or this one, are not appropriate for the Passions. I'm not too fond of this bass, though.

Really picky point - he's got his head burried in the copy and has no opportunity to engage with an actual audience

Admin022: Exaktly what is it that you dont like with this version?
Zerlina12 5 years ago
I don't like that conductors style, and it effects the perforers, especially the singers.
