  • hey man do i have to pull my motor out or could i easily access it from the engine bay...looks a little tight

  • How to solve Honda engine problems; replace with a proper engine from a different manfacturer.

  • hey eric, so i have a volvo and recently lost control of my car and hit a curb and now my car turns off when i am less than 25mph, do u think maybe its a idle issue or any suggestions?

  • I don't have that issue but do have a an integra with a bad idle low and stays there replaced about everything can u please help me

  • Fixed it right up. Thanks man!

  • You should teach Ford & Vauxhall dealerships in the UK how to fix cars. They start the clock, throw parts at the car for which they charge (even if it wasn't that part faulty), make excuses, then give a huge bill. They even insist on £80 for reading fault codes, even though they don't show the exact faulty part. For example, broken MAF sensor can show "emission" fault codes. People have lost the art of fault finding, they simply don't do it. I go to independant garages for a decent service.

  • @urbex2007 Further example! Friend took his Astra in as it got to 3000RPM and the engine light come on. (diesel turbo car) He got the fault code holding down the accelerator & brake and turning the key. We did some fault finding and thought it was the Boost Pressure Sensor. Vauxhall dealership wanted £80 for codes, £300 to clean the intake manifold and said it was the turbo at fault...we got a part for £35 off ebay, fitted it and the car has been fine for a year. You NEED to fault find first!!!

  • this vid pretty much answered all my questions on this matter, thx a lot man

  • Thank you Ericthecarguy. I had issue with idle and check engine lights. I chased the check engine light first and it turned out to speed sensor(my speedometer recently got broken). I replaced it and no more idle problem. Thanks again.

  • Hey Eric should I clean my iacv cuz it has the woaoaoa idle... It has the check engine light on and the car is worm from driving it around then I'll turn it off disconnect my battery for 5 minutes connect it and it runs good tell the check engine light turns on. It only dose the woaoaoa idle when the light Is on..

  • Got my car running from that trenny swap and got a po505 iacv code with o2 sensor code and some sensor for my fuel pump had miss fires code not no more Iacv sensor makes a weird noise.. I wish I didn't do that swap no more lol

  • eirc the car guy i have a question for you.

i have a 94 honda civic dx 1.5L my idle gose up and and down between 1500Rpms and 2500Rpms i replaced the map sensor my mechanic and father told me that it was the problem still doing the same thing.

My idle control valve was replace about a year ago, so i don't think that is it. I checked for vacume leek just like you showed on the video and the car did not shut off im thinking i might replace the intake manifold

    what would you suggest

  • i was watching minecraft... how did i come here?

  • Your so cool!

  • my idle is moving up and down i did a complete tune up and i still have the same problem! the car sputters when i accelarate

  • Wow man. You are my hero, I just bought a 93 accord that needed some much needed tlc and almost every single repair and fix I did was thru your videos i love you no homo <3. i only have one little problem which is the dials on the gauges don't light up. everything else does and its not a fuse, i've heard its a comon issue, if you have a fix i would be so thankful :).

  • do you have any tips for deleting the fitv? the fast idle thermo valve. i have a 70mm throttle body and it doest have a hook up for a fitv.

when i install the new tb it idles low when warm. brand new iac and runs great when you keep foot on gas.

can i just turn the idle up? to help it idle. if i give it a bit of gas it idles great.

lmk im sure you have bunch of info

i have a jdm b18c with a supercharger in a civic 4 door. please help ill post a vid of sucess

  • so i tighend my fast idle valve and now my car wont stay on? it stopped reving up and down and it idles between 500 to 1000 rpms so thats good but when i give it gas it almost dies and sometimes it does cut off have no idea what to do can anyone help?????? please

  • hey eric i use to have a check engine light after they installed a new engine on my car the port wouldnt read anything and i felt the car ok and everything till i developed and idle when i turend the defront or high beams ... i would rev the car up and the rpms would just drop all the way to 700 and go to about 750 800 ... after that i checking the plug wires and the light when off and the car seems find up till now

  • Eric, I found out my '92 Civic VX does not have a Fast Idle but only the EACV(IACV). I get an occasional lug/low idle, below the 'lower' RPM mark which I believe represents 500 RPM. It seems to lug down to 400 or so, and then the engine can sound like diesel 'sorta', unless the ECU adjusts idle RPM to compensate for any electrical load that happens after that point. I had the the valve cleaned about 1-2 years ago when I got the car. Could it be in need of cleaning again, replace the gasket?

  • First of all nice videos and i have subscribed to your channel....The second thing is that i have a honda integra acura 1986-1989 model and im having real problems when trying to start it in the morning. It can take 1 minute to start and then i need to keep the revs up for a while. Im saying its a problem coz 4 months ago starting the car was much easier...Sometimes it backfires at starting (no fire just the bang) Got any suggestions?? If so much appreciated!!!! Thanx

  • Yo Eric,I'm from Trinidad and Tobago WI and I look @ all your vids cause they're always informative.I have a 92 honda prelude with the H22a engine. My problem is when I turn on the AC the engine does not step up the idle to compensate for the load so it "bugs down"almost to the point of stalling.I also get ignition rattle when I pull off and the car has an idle surge but not a distinct one.Very minimal surge, about 600 to 800 rpm idle fluctuation. Can you point me in the right direction?

  • on my 91 acura integra it happin i just disconnected that sensor and it stoped doing the iddle prob but did throw a code but i could deal with that rather then the idle but would that hurt anything else

  • Hi Eric,

Can you offer some advice as to what could be causing my Honda CRV 2002 to nearly stall when the air conditioning is turned on. I have taken the IACV out and cleaned it, but hasn't made any difference. The air con is really cold, but i have noticed that sometimes it blows some hot air for a brief seconds. The car runs perfectly if I don't turn the air con on, but as soon as I turn the air con on, it causes the revs to drop to around 400 then back up to around 1000 then back down again.

  • Hey Eric, thanks for all the vids. My 88 Civic is well on the way to being drivable. My next task is tracking down my idle problem. My idle does not have the typical symptom of a vacuum leak, which is a rising and falling idle, I think. Mine is usually fine, but will sometimes idle very high on startup. If I give it gas, then let off, it will "stick" at whatever rpm I got to. Other times it will fire up on its own to around 3k or more. Powering the car off and on again fixes it.

  • Just got a 93 civic with a 96 motor and tranny and i was havin idle problems like u was talkin about runs fine when im driving but when i stop it idle up and down and will shut off .now it wont start so what do u think tht would be can the iac cause it not to start?

  • Great job Erik !!!

  • oh, and I subscribed :] thanks for your help. You're an honest American.

    what is your facebook, though?

  • Your video was exactly what I read about what my problem was.

one thing that was different that I found out in your video was the fast air control valve.. you said to tighten it down snug, i read on some forums to only tighten it down some.. idk. ha, but I'll probably just go ahead and tighten it all the way, without too much over-tightening.

  • Hey Eric, I have a 95 Integra. I cleaned the throttle body, the IACV and bled the cooling system. I did these because the rpm gauge goes up and down, up and down below 1kRPM. I tried hitting it with a screw driver like you said in the video, but its still happening. I'm not sure anymore if its an idle problem, or something else because the whole engine shakes(on and off not continuously including the throttle body during idle. Any advice?

  • @ankl3br3ak3r I tried checking worn engine mounts but they look fine to me. Do you think changing the IACV would fix this shaking problem?

  • i have a 95 honda and it idles ok but when u give it gas at a steady rpm u cant thre rpm will go up and down wat do u think my problem is

  • Hi thanks for your help. I am a female in Australia and could not see this part on my honda crv 1999. I do agree this air problem is the one going on with mine as it somethimes when I run my air conditioning, which by the way needs servicing.

  • thank u men for donwload this video , u help me a lot ..

  • Where can I buy the magic bullet )

  • ok all of my vaccum lines are brand new and got my engine rebuilt new evrything but its still idling low

  • Hey Eric, I had this idle problem on my '92 Accord for weeks before I took any action. Called my mechanic, (I'm pretty good with a wrench, but he does the big, time consuming stuff), I decribed the problem to him over the phone...he said, "Oh yeah, that's the idle control valve, that'll be $450.00. I then did some research and found your video...THANKS, you saved me some BIG BUCKS!!! I'm positive he would have done the same thing I did, and would have made out like a bandit. Thanks man you ROCK.

  • @420tonight I'm happy to help, thanks for the comment.

  • @EricTheCarGuy I'd like to ask you a question: 2002 Honda Accord Coupe, tail lights. The upper corner bulb, works as a turn signal/running light, do you know how to make it function as JUST a turn signal, and NOT a running light? Someone said just tape off two of the four leads on the bulb? Ever heard of this? Does the (electrical) tape go on the upper or lower bulb? I also heard you can cut the constant wire? Which wire is that? I'm not an electrician. ANY IDEA? thanks.

  • @EricTheCarGuy

SO i have a honda civic 93ex. jumping idle when cold. water is fine. good cap on radiator. no known vacuum leaks. swapped iacv with another we had and no change. drives fine, just idles up and down. i wil try adjusting the valve under the intake. what are your thoughts?

  • Excellent video! Very informative and understandable. This is exactly how car problems should be solved. Just throwing money and parts at your car problems will not necessarily fix them. Even if you are not mechanically inclined and take your car to the shop (like me), at least educate yourself about what the possible problems are before you go in. Then you will have a reference point. This makes a big of difference in the service I get, and I am able to tell which auto repair shops are honest.

  • @tehparrot You know when I started doing this I had that VERY thought in mind, it's great to know that has worked out as I had hoped. Thanks very much for your comment.

  • i have a 94 civic ex and it idles smoothly at 400 rpm and ive noticed when i crank it and its idling at 1000 tht it takes off really good but when idling at 400 it takes off really slow so do u think if i adjust the fast idle thing it will make my car idle around 750 would b good

  • @dillondeal DON'T adjust the fast idle first thing, look for vacuum leaks and bleed the cooling system first.

  • Always love your videos man. I can't tell you how much money you've saved me with my project car.

  • @mtoy1337 I LOVE saving you money. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hi, my Honda accord 2001 also has the surging idle problem, when i take it on driving and i stop/brake for a while, the car shut down. what do you think the problem is and how to solve it? thank you very much!

  • @aibietmay did you try cleaning the EGR passages??? works on my honda accord 1997 N after two days of driving the computer automatically adjust -------- type in EGR cleaning passages

  • @aibietmay this happens to me too, anyone has any idea what can solve this?

    2000 Accord Manual Tranny

  • @aibietmay Start with the suggestions in the video, you might also post this question over at the forum on my website as I'll be able to give a more detailed response.

  • Comment removed

  • @mrlakayna Don't start with the adjustment, start buy bleeding out the cooling system and looking for vacuum leaks.

  • You are really helpful. Thanks for taken the time to explain. I Will be looking for u on Facebook. I couldn't figure out the idle problem until this video. Thanks again

  • @The210krew I'm glad my video was able to help, thanks for your comment.

  • Man your are like a good doctor is suppose to be. You help people for the right reasons. I have alot respect for you

  • @Visions2Be Thank you very much for that.

  • Okay First of all thanks for the videos. I have watched tons of them. So honda idle problems I have a horrible idle sounds like a bad miss too i put my hand over the throttle body to smother my engine out yesterday and my idle leveled out but my motor didnt die? where would you go first in that situation? everyone feel free to give me suggestions. Thanks

  • @blueovalboy18 it's all in the video but you might also want to type 'idle speech' in the search box of my website as that can give more detailed information.

  • Hey Eric,

I have a quick question I thought, maybe, you can help me with. My igniter went on me some months ago. I noticed, shortly after replacing it, my tach started jumping around when I accelerate hard. I thought my coil was going bad cause I saw water leaking by it but it's been like six months since I replaced it. Do you think it could be the coil? Maybe even the distributor? I don't know. Any ideas? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

    Mario

  • @mario111876 The igniter is what sends the tach signal so perhaps you got a bad one or there is a problem at one of the connections. I always recommend OE ignition parts for Hondas BTW.

  • i have accord 96, engine type f22b2 turbocharge and having the same reving problem.

  • @ozzytoledo i did what you said and it worked. thanks man.

  • When i first got my 92 Accord it would rev up and down from 2k to 900k over and over till it warmed up i took the air control valve off and cleaned it and it stopped never had it happen again

  • Thanks Bro.

Never thought about air in the coolant. I'm in Boston MA,Winter is damn near here mightas well get mom's car flushed while I'm at it.

  • @AIERBIZ It's the first thing I check, good luck and stay warm as well as dirty.

  • @AIERBIZ AIR IN THE COOLANT!!! I would have never thought of it makes perfect sense and I just replaced the pump and radiator on my civic when this happen.

  • Great attitude and approach to solving issues and problems, keep up the good work!!

  • @luisifer1 Thank you.

  • I guess ill get my check engine light checked out first lol.. Good vid I see how it works now

  • @greengank That is an excellent starting point.

  • Hi Eric i have a 95 Saturn SC1 that has a idle problem similar to the Honda idle problem in your video.Only it happens once the engine has reached normal operating temperature.

The it idle's between 800 and 300 rpm's in a rhythmic cycle, some times it evens stalls at idle or during deceleration. Most of the time i have to keep my foot on the brakes and the gas at a light just to keep the engine from stalling.

I have checked vacuum leaks and replaced the egr valve and map sensor any ideas?

  • @TheycallmeMRArnold70 Not sure why you replaced those sensors but I suppose it doesn't matter now. Probably not a bad idea to check the operation of the idle air control valve and recheck for vacuum leaks near the intake gasket.

  • Sorry I had to restart this mesage, like I said everything was double checked with no vacuum leaks, no air in the cooling system, no check engine light, tapping on the iac valve didn't make a difference, but I am unsure where the fast idle valve is on my intake, the only good thing that came from this repair is there is a lot less smoke than before with just a tiny little bit on vtec, could a loose pcv connection be the problem. Get back to me when you get a chance, thanks mate :-)

  • Hey Eric, you may remember i told you I replaced the valve stem oil seals on my 99 civic b16a2, it stopped smoking when cold but as soon as it warms it smoked over 3500 rpm and very badly during vtec, I replaced the pcv valve and cleaned the hoses and breather box that pcv connects to, I took the intake off to get to it and replaced the intake gasket at the same time also making sure the surfaces were all clean, now it hovers between 1000-1500rpm, or sticks at 2000, everything has been checked

  • @pershio It's probably still burning oil because the rings are worn, it's not often it's just the valve seals. As for the idle do the checks in the video, also aftermarket PCV valves can be a problem I've actually seen them cause issues on some Honda's. In addition those hoses going to the PCV can be very brittle so it's easy to cause a vacuum leak when you mess with that system. 99's don't have an FITV.

  • hey eric whats the part call where u turn around the plastic thing???? for the fast idle thing?

  • @MrHosito Yes but make that the LAST thing you look at when trying to solve a Honda idle issue, do the other checks first.

  • @MrHosito

on a honda, it is called a FITV (Fast Idle Thermal Valve)

  • Thanks man I see what I can do. Thanxs for writing back.

  • Hey Eric, my car does that and I smacked it just like you said and it stopped, now the question is can I clean this thing in the inside or do I replace it? I cleaned the throttle body entrance and it helped but didnt get rid of the problem. I will mess with fast Idle soon but I just thought maybe I ask first to do what's best to solve the issue.

    Thanks.

  • @74bluewolf Personally I don't have much luck with cleaning IAC's, I just replace them. I have all kinds of people tell me they make things worse after attempting to clean an IAC so I recommend replacement.

  • hey there eric, i like the videos you post, and this one in particular. i work at a car shop (mostly known for our performance work on hondas though) and on hondas in particular, almost once a week i will hear a bad idle on a car. and MANY times people immediately assume its the tps, or the iac, but there is something called an IDLE UP SOLENOID. one of the major symptoms is it'll act much like a bad tps but while accelerating instead of while trying to hold a constant speed

  • @kylelab333221 In 15 years of working on Honda's the only TPS's I've had to replace had physical damage yet some other makes have bad TPS's all the time. Different makes different problems but the tendency is to assume every problem is caused by the same issue from what I've gathered. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hey eric. does this high idle valve come with most honda engines? or is it just for a select few? I learned something today. Cool...I just need to explore on how the coolant iac thing works.I really need to step away from GM for a while.lol

  • @CatfishingChris Forget the fast idle valve, the most common cause of an idle issue is air in the cooling system or a vacuum leak, you need to check for those first before going to the FITV.

  • Is the adjustment you made beginning at the 5:00 mark on a carburated model? I have an 86' Accord that gets almost 40 mpg highway, but when started it revs up to 3k until it warms and then I can kick it down by tapping the accelerator pedal. I'm afraid to look at the high idle at startup cause I don't want to break something that's working so well otherwise. I'm only concerned about the high rev issue...afraid the oil can't get topside fast enough.

  • @mwngw No that could be a choke issue or an issue with the air injection valves, you're really going to need a service manual or something to nail that one down, not a bad idea to check for vacuum leaks at the base of the carburetor however.

  • this is on neutral, i start my car and rpm starts at about 1000 rpm then drops to 650 rpm once the car is operating range. but once the engine gets really warm it drops really low almost to like 200 or 300 rpm. another thing i pump on the brakes and rpm goes up, i stop then drops back down is that normal? its a 93 honda civic. could this also be a cause of air in the cooling system?

  • @nitomagic It doesn't sound like air in the cooling system so much as a misadjusted idle circuits, you may also want to check for vacuum leaks and if you have an aftermarket PCV valve replace it with an OE unit.

  • @nitomagic I have similar symptoms on my 92 Civic VX. The lowest RPM mark represents 500 RPMs, I believe. At hot idle/engine at operating temps there is definitely a lug at times(appearing to dip below the 500 mark clearly to me).

I experience the same RPM change when applying the brake vs unapplied. Cleaned IACV last year, had EGR system/ports cleaned, valve as well. I have yet to check the Fast Idle Valve, though. Sprayed TB cleaner at various vacuum hoses but no affect on idle, FWIW.

  • @nitomagic its an old car thing, almost everything (brake master, clutch master etc) has some kind of a vacuum system and they all kinda conflict with each other, in my 98 civic pressing the brakes or clutch rapidly will raise my idle a little

  • how much will it cost to fix the coolant ?

  • @cchris214 I don't cover pricing and besides I'm a little confused about your question.

  • good stuff you got here. Thanks for the info..

  • @ngljr89 Glad you like it, thanks for the comment.

  • im having idle problems with my 93 nissan altima, it likes to stall once in awhile it might have to do something with gas pump? it seems to use 2x as much gas now

  • @thepowerfulnews First I would recommend starting with any check engine lights you have, if you don't have any then I would start with the tune up items, after that I might look for vacuum leaks.

  • Nice vids keep it up ....... Id like to mention I found it easiest on my hondas to jack the front end up so the radiator cap is higher then the IACV let it idle intill thermostat opens up and it will push the bubbles out for you.

  • @kurbage I actually did a video on the procedure for bleeding the cooling system, there are actually a couple more steps involved but getting the rad up higher does help.

  • Wow it seems as if the 'comments' page is now a questions page! I gotta say this, your videos rule!

I found it really amusing when you mentioned the 'throwing parts' at your problem, but having a wrong diagnosis.

  • @gefallt It happens way too often in my opinion and I try and discourage that behavior whenever possible. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hey there I have an 89 crx si and I've benn having some problems latley but the main one is as I'm slowing down at a stop light I take the car out of gear and it tries to idle but most of the time if I don't rev it up its idle drops and dies and the only error I'm getting from the ecu is the 6 flashes(coolant or coolant temp I think it was) would what you described in this video help do you think or would it be air in the coolant line? Amd help you cam provide would be appreciated

  • @zuggybear420 Yes always solve any check engine lights first if you have an idle problem. Coolant temp is critical the proper engine operation on a fuel injected system. Good luck.

  • Hey Eric just wanna start off by saying how awesome and helpful your vids are. I've done all the steps you've said in this video and I seem to still have the problem. But then I decided to check the engine code like you said. It's an 88 Honda CRX with the OBD0 ecm that has the flashing lights and it said that it was code # 9 which has something to do with the distributor from the research that I have done. Could a faulty distributor or a sensor in it cause this problem?

  • @iLano79 Not sure what you mean by 'this problem' but if you are talking about idle problems and you have a check engine light it's always a good idea to solve those first and then see if the idle issue goes away. That code I believe is for a crank or cam signal if I'm not mistaken. Good luck.

  • @EricTheCarGuy Yes I meant the Hunting Idle Problem and the code is apparently a CYP Sensor (Cylinder #1 Position). I'm not exactly sure what that is Lol but I'm told it's in the distributor housing. Could that possibly cause it to idle weird? Thanks for the response man!

  • hey I've got a 5 speed 96 civic hatchback.

whenever I put it into neutral the engine would die sumtimes.

what's the problem please comment back thanks .^_^

  • @hawtyangboi I really couldn't say but most idle problems are caused by mixture problems so do the checks in this video for starters and see what you come up with.

  • @EricTheCarGuy thanks ive awready watched this a couple of times.

  • I own an '88 Honda Civic D14A1.

Damn man, after some of your videos I gladly give Her to You for some "facelift" :)

It can be seen that You love the cars that you talk about.

Problem is You're about 8500 kms away and I dont trust guys around here :)

  • @amshaegar1 I'll still do what I can from here because helping people is what I do. Thanks for the comment.

  • hey eric what year and model of block is in this vid? is it for the dc or da chassis?

  • @tubefreak90 It was my B16 from my 91 Integra.

  • @EricTheCarGuy ok awesome thanks. i cant seem to fin many videos of ur repairs (any topic of repair) on the dc model integra from yr 95-2000 LS with the b18b. hopefully u can show the right direction to find those if u have any. thanks eric.

  • @tubefreak90 You can look up all of my videos from the 'videos' page on my website, they are all categorized by topic OR you can do a search using the website's search function.

  • @EricTheCarGuy ok thanks. ill sure do that

  • @EricTheCarGuy are you talking about your website eric the car guy.com?

  • @EricTheCarGuy sorry i meant to say from 94-2000 yr models.

  • @EricTheCarGuy B18 sorry.

  • Dude! You're Like A Big Brother I Never Had ........You're Very Encouraging and highly agreeable...to the acount of your knowledge and you willingness to share...wish there were more of you kind around.......you boost my confidence with the needed support........ ...Good Teacher......and MOTIVATOR ...thank you

  • @bust2ram Your kind remarks are very much appreciated, thank you.

  • Eric, 92 Civic with an S20 M/T. Need a clutch kit. Could a clutch going in any way affect idle? I'm also having the sound of the Input Shaft Bearing so I'm also going to get that replaced as well.

Interesting thoughts on using dealer PCV valves. What kind of symptoms does it cause? Too low of an idle or more of a hunting idle?

Lastly, ever experienced the breather box getting plugged or caked up if maintenance was neglected? I have an aftermarket Purolator PCV valve on currently anyway.

  • @LTslimjim Not much space for your answers sorry. If thrust bearings are worn using the clutch can stall the engine. Aftermarket PCV valves can make the engine act like it has a vacuum leak as the PCV in essence is a controlled vacuum leak anyway. I have seen plenty of breather box problems because of it's location on the back of the engine.

  • @EricTheCarGuy Thanks for the reply. I registered to the Forums on your site instead! =D

  • I have an 88 Integra that would have a fast idle when cold started, then sometimes on warm start would be normal idle, other would still have fast idle. Not really a problem until now. Now it has an intermittent no start, or will begin to start but will sputter and die. Because of the fast idle it normally had, I thought it could be related to air intake, either the IAC or fast idle valve.

  • @zytekfan You might want to start looking for vacuum leaks first before you go at the valves for the problem. Also would be a good idea to check for spark and fuel during the no start as it could be something that's not even related.

  • Never mind I got it and it works!! Thanks a lot man!

  • @sickobmx79 Glad you figured it out.

  • Mine is so lose its falling out! I can't seem to get it in to tie it down what do I do?

  • dude, your legit :)

  • subscribed :D

  • @Theuf28 Thank you!

  • @EricTheCarGuy Good video Eric - I've been chasing a fluctuating idle problem for months. It was the idle air control valve - I used your "screwdriver" method to verify it. Changed it out and all is good - thanks.

  • My 94 accord shown code 14 (one long and 4 short) but the engine only star to rev up after diving for a while. Should i concerdering of replacing it ?

  • @lustatus That code is for the idle control system so you might want to look there for the fault.

  • Hi Eric, I have a 2006 Nissan Altima and "service engine soon" light (not engine light) came on. I got two codes P0420 & P0507. My car idle is about 1.5 rpm after warming up. I clean the throttle valve, looked at the cat and it's one whole piece that I can't remove it. What step would you recommend me to do first to get it fix one by one? I did the gas paddle trick that I saw on you tube but the light wont go off. Please help me when you have a chance, thank you very much.

  • @killsometimeforfun That actually is the check engine light. One code is for the catalytic converter and the other is for the idle control system so I don't think they are related.

  • i have a 1994 Mazda mpv and the check engine light is on and i tried to diagnose it by connecting a wire from ground to ten because no one has a obd 1 to scan it but when i do this its doesn't do anything the check engine light is suppose to blink...any suggestions

  • @94navin I don't think that's how you check a Mazda code for that year, to be honest I don't remember but you might want to check on a google search for how to pull that code and the meanings of what you find. Unfortunately I don't have anything in my database that I can find at the moment.

  • To locate the code reader under the drivers side dash will be a metal box with a glass dome.

DA INTEGRA 93 LS 1.8 My car's idle is going down while im a red light or stop. Can this Engine Coolant Temparature Sensor be the reason why?

10 Blinks -Lock-up clutch does not engage -Disconnected ECT sensor connector

-Open or short in ECT sensor wire

    -Faulty ECT sensor

  • @navarroerick91 I would spend some time trying to diagnose the issue before I started replacing parts.

  • There was a code, i don't remember the #. something to do with IAC valve malfuction'

I took it off, it was stoped up. I clean it the idle is now higher and the a/c works.

    Problem solve.

  • @blackericdenice Glad you got it sorted out, thanks for the update.

  • Hi Eric, I have a 1996 acura integra gsr and it has a idle problem. I clean the IAC valve but the problem never go away. Now the Fast Idle valve that you mention I don't think my car has one. I look on the Haynes book and it says that only automatic has one on this particular model. What else could it be the problem? I notice that my dumper is a little wobbly would that couse it? Please help. Thank You.

  • @pambid427 Have you checked for air in the cooling system and for vacuum leaks?

  • My lady friend's 98 crv a/c would not work but freon, fuses, relay and all was good.

The compressor just wouldn't turn on. I google this and someone said something about idle air control valve and a code. I ask her was the check engine light on and she said yes. The fix was to clean the iac valve.

  • @blackericdenice The IAC valve has nothing to do with the operation of the AC. If your having issues with the AC I recommend taking it to a professional as AC issues can be complicated to solve and you need often need special equipment to diagnose and repair them.

  • WELL...MY 98 CIVIC EX, KEEPS IDLEING DOWN AND DIEING WITH THE OIL AND BATTERY LIGHT ON, IF I KEEPING GIVING IT GAS IT STAYS GOING BUT AS SOON AS I LET GO IT STALLS OUT, MY CAR IS AUTOMATIC BY THA WAY

  • @BLAZE45 Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

  • @EricTheCarGuy too late...sadly the car is dead and the engine is cracked and all the oil just falls out :(

  • hey eric. nice videos. I need help man. I have had idling problems with my corona 95 with 3sfe for a while. it has been to 2 mechanics. 1st mechanic. sparkplugs, airfilter, fuel filter replaced. IACV cleaned. 2nd mechanic. put it on diagnostic, rechecked the timing, coolant temp sensor. pulses produced by distributor checked. however the idle is still rough. the RPM doesnt fluctuate. but if u stop at a traffic light. u feel the car runing rough. any ideas/?? it doesnt do it always though.

  • @tauseef7061 You might want to do a compression test or leak down to make sure that all cylinders can produce equal power, if they don't then this can contribute to rough running, worn valve train parts can also cause that condition.

  • i did all that and i still have it f...ing problem... no " check light " .... all new parts and same BS HELP PLZ

  • @jeankgabriel Have you bled the air out of the cooling system and checked for vacuum leaks?

  • love videos, do you have any videos on how to remove the entire intake manifold?

  • @christianbaclao If you watch the Civic engine series I remove an intake on that.

  • hey eric, my 1991 honda idles fine...until i start it when its warm it idles a little rough for about 5-10 seconds......matt

  • @bigmatt503 If you adjusted the FITV valve you might want to watch the video response to this video of more information on that.

  • thanks for the vidoe's eric...i have a 01 2.3 accord..automatic..sometimes this car idle's around 300 rpm's..no check engine light...what do you think?

  • @hondaslave Make the checks in the video and see what you come up with.

  • @EricTheCarGuy i found the problem...would you beleive it was my engine mount...this car has a rear mount controlled by vacuum......the solenoid had malfunctioned....a vacuumed controlled engine mount?...but i did find the problem though.....

  • @hondaslave Thanks for the update, actually vacuum leaks probably account for 90% of idle issues. Well done on finding the issue.

  • i have a honda civic 96 vti, when running the car then i step on the clutch and release the gas pedal the rpm drops at almost 100rpm then my car almost turns its engine off, a
