Very interesting, Willis! I really enjoy how you give background information on your signals. You've inspired me to do one video like yours soon but doing the background information on my little collection.
The clear light at the bottom of the signal was designed to illuminate the center of the intersection. If the signal failed, the light would be turned on and a police officer would stand beneath it, making him more visible. The officer would direct traffic until the signal could be repaired.
Those are pretty fancy cut-away visors. Wish they were still used.
