  • Man, I just watched a ton of your video's. I've been playing over 30 years and you blew right by me. You absolutely amazing! You really need to get into a good band. Your playing reminds me of the Daniel Adair from Nickleback. You have this amazing speed and great chops. Keep up the good work!

  • Wow....what an outstanding solo....incredible....I am speechless....

  • dude, whats your fav rudiment?? looks like you have a long list.

awesome job man. inspired to dude better.

  • @UnitingForce I don't have any rudiments that I practice. I just warm up by playing. thanks!

  • Dude i can tell you just LOVE playing your drums, and all this shit just comes out. Haha sick man

  • that has to be THE best sounding drumkit in the world, what snare are you using?

  • You really let it all hang out on this one 10 PERFECT

  • muy buen solo!! x cierto q marka es tu ride??

  • lets jam dewd lol

  • FUCKING BADASS!

  • Nice playing bro. What are you using to mic your kit?

  • Great solo. you have a lot of great technique. Great fills, you are very crative. Aslo, really fast. Keep drumming. Good job.

  • yep same here he jus makes ya wana play :L

  • Every time I come back to watch one of your videos I want to hop on my kit and go crazy...

  • are these natural drum sounds or are they miked?

  • Everything I have on youtube is recorded with 7 to 8 mics with natural drum sounds. I don't use triggers or any processors. I used to (and I might) still have some videos that were recorded without mics, but with the camera mic. You would most likely find these in the "Retrospect" videos I have.

  • well. i love the sound of your drums.

    you had cancer man?

  • thanks! yeah, for 6½ months in 2005.

  • well i'm glad you got through it.

  • im sorry=[

  • u stairing at the camera is creeping me out

  • (':') mua ha ha ha

  • ur an amazing drummer man...how u get so good? practice im sure

  • you guessed it! lol. Learning to play to some songs i guess... playing with people that challenge you to do better or be more creative. That's what I think helped me.

  • boy i just wonder did you win against the cancer you had bro.

  • yup. I sure did. I've been clean for 4 years.

  • kinda reminds me of a hella song, a tiny bit. its awesome tho!!!

  • blink 182 at 0:46

  • That's actually a really common drum&bass beat, I'm not sure that it was necessarily any given song.

  • I've never listened to Blink 182.. how funny is that.

  • yeah baby yea! that was HELLA awesome. you're a good role model for aspiring and experienced drummers alike man. :)

  • thanks!!

  • i think bonzos montreux makes a short appearance in the beginning

  • haha, i really don't know where you hear this stuff at. I wasn't even thinking about Led Zeppelin or Nirvana when I played this. lol.

  • ahah well I'm sure yeah you wouldn't have been 'consciously' thinking about it, but tell me 1:41+ doesnt sound pretty similar

  • 1:41 as in bloom? nah.

  • I don't hear it... i hear a heavy rock beat.

  • Comment removed

  • chill? i was just saying it didnt, i'd read it if i could find it.

  • Comment removed

  • its ok man,

  • I heard a little Nirvana in there, "In Bloom" :D love your solos :)

  • very awesome!

  • I love that part at 8:00, and i think i may be held responsible for at least a hundred of them views haha !

  • hey,

Have you ever considered doing one of those drum-off competitions?

  • I wish he didn't stare into the camera like sexual offender.

  • lol

  • Freaking AWESOME Man. You rule.

  • did u take lessons or one the drum line at your local school?

  • I am self taught. I didn't take lessons from anybody. I wasn't in band except from 6th to 8th grade. And I still don't know how to read music very well!

  • wow very nice dude, im a self taught guitarist and drummer lol very inspiring

  • This is probably my favorite solo of yours yet, Beau. Fantastic job as always man.

Don't know what it is, but everytime I watch you play, your style really reminds me of Dan Foord from SikTh at times...or am I totally off? :P

  • dude, Sikth is one of favorite bands!

  • Fuck, that's awesome man. Gotta love SikTh. Big shame they broke up.

Which album do you prefer from them?

  • I prefer Death Of A Dead Day. I've listened to the first album quite a few times, but I always seem to like Death Of A Dead Day more and more. Everything is tight on that album. There is only a few songs that I like the first album. There are some great songs on there.

  • Excellent man, me too. I love both of them to death, and they're both excellent, but you're right...DOADD is much tighter. All of the things that were wrong with the first album, which isn't saying much 'cause there was very little wrong with it, were improved on with DOADD. Imo, it's the perfect album...not a single flaw to be found with it.

You should do some SikTh drum covers man. There's not too many on YouTube and you would definately nail them.

  • nice playing ...you looking into the camera kinda freaked me out...like that snare sound alot

  • that's funny because I have friends that told me that they thought me looking at the camera was funny. I have no idea why i looked for so long. I know that I was watching myself though because I had the LCD flipped around on the camera, but otherwise, it is kind of a funny face.

  • i think it more freaked me out..cause i have a nasty habbit of looking the same way you do when i play live..and i just stare...so it was just funny

  • Beau,

Have you ever tried to get endorsed before?

It could be worth your time to just try...

I hope you have friends are are equally good on other instruments lol

That first beat you lay down at the beginning is freakin amazing man

  • the tom work around 8:40 and up is so aweosme.

  • i'm in love with your snare work.

  • Hey Beau,

That groove at 0:12 and again at 0:18 is insanely impressive! I have no idea whats going on there..Do you mind sharing what you are doing? ;)

  • Hey Beau, would you mind doing a video showing your cymbal setup/what they sound like unmic'd? I currently use sabian but your cymbals always seem to record nice in all your videos

  • Absolutely insane man, very impressive.

  • bravo Beau Ferchaud ca fait longtemp que j'ai pas vue un beau solo comme ca

    merci

  • omg, teach me the thing at 05:58!:D

  • all limbs are doing triplets. (R)cymbal, (L)snare, (R)snare, (L)cymbal, (R)snare, (L)snare, (R)cymbal, (L)snare, (R)snare, (L)cymbal... repeat! bass is doing a 3 stroke pattern = triplets.

  • wow thats pertty nice man, very niceeeee.

  • thank You!

  • whats that on your right stick?

  • i'm not sure exactly what it is, but i know it happens with a lot of silverfox sticks.

the stick basically "splinters" i guess. i don't know how to explain it. i don't even know if that's what's going on in this video. but yeah.

  • It's incredibly splintered. It's from doing a massive amount of rimshots. Those sticks were a month old. They are dead now. :)

  • It is splintering like crazy. It's from the massive amount of rim shots I do.

  • i see that kind of thing all the time. thanks for breaking it down for me haha.

    you kick ass, man.

  • 9 minutes of awesome and sheer masterclass i applaud u beau

  • are those A Customs? they have to be Ziljains. i have Armands, which are very similar to A's, but a little more warm, a little less raw. your ride is definately a 21 inch, or at least it has a huge bell. dope set yo.

  • No, the cymbals are regular A Series, except two cymbals. The ride you see is a Zildjian Z Series 22" Heavy Power Ride. The only cymbal that isn't an A series or Z Series is the china, and that is an 18" ZHT.

  • well i wasn't that much off haha! nice cymbals! it's great how you can mix and match different types of ziljains and it usually works. i prefer all armands but you've definately got a sweet combination here.

  • yeah, the reason why I have a ZHT china is because i've gone through so many china's that it would make your head spin. I finally got tired of spending $200 a year on a china. So I went to wuhan... good cymbal, cracks to easily. So recently, I thought "what if I got a china from Ziljians lower end models". And so far, I haven't bought a china in 2 years. The ZHT china is great.

  • i hate the sound of chinas. they're good for like experimental sounding music, but it's so goofy sounding. i once had a 20$ 12" wuhan. i broke that fucker in like a week.

  • good sound

  • You're vids DO NOT sound the same. You demonstrate frest creativity in nearly all of your posts. Keep posting and make the rest of us feel like pot choppers.

At least we can see how good we could be if we had natural talent and ability. Your worst trait is you want go for the big time---and you damned well could. Promote yourself---if no one else will.

  • Fucking right.

  • i love the sound of your kit. the solo had an awesome groove and actually sounded like a sole instead of just a bunch of parts mashed together like a lot of others on youtube are.

  • dude that was fucking INSANE shit!!

  • mmmm dope! love the part with the snare off

    :P

  • Hey man, what size sticks do you use..out of curiosity?

  • What drum mic's are you using?

  • cool this was filmed on my b day, awesome solo, too!

  • your snare sounds amazing, any tips?

  • thanks! Your hearing the recording of it through mics, and mixing, and a bit of mastering. It sounds a slightly different live. I have the bottom kinda tight, the batter head is not so loose but not too tight either. For my snare, the spring tension is where i get my sound. It makes a big difference on how tight or loose those snare wires are.

  • I hear influences from Norma Jean?

  • ehhhhh... maybe a tiny fraction. I love Norma Jean's first two CDs, but I wouldn't say I'm influenced by them.

  • sounded like mitch mitchell playing

  • Incredibly impressive: fast, technical, and interesting.I'm surprised you're not in a band--and by band, I mean a signed band.

I'm sure you've posted this before, but what brand of kit do you have? It sounds great, too--very professional. You have potential as a mixer, even if the drums somehow fall through!

    Keep posting! Really great stuff.

  • thanks!! If you go to my homepage on Youtube, you can find all that information about my drumset on the sidebar.

  • pure talent!!!nothing else to say!!!!very very good musician!!!!bravo!!!

  • thanks man!!

  • Hey Beau, thanks for yesterday's reply.

Just learned you suffered this Hodgkins type of cancer. Hope you are ok now?

Are you a professional drummer? Got a band and/or album?

What is a double wide trailer, anyway?

I don't think we have that in Europe.

Please slow down in your next video, so that I can learn more about your technique. Your going too fast! Will you please do that?

Do you know Buddy Rich? Really one of my faves amongst Bonham, Porcaro, Moon (all dead). Thanks!

    Jan

  • Hello. Yes, i am ok since the cancer. I am not a professional drummer. I used to be in two bands at different times: Distortion Drum and Burn.Heal.Scar. A double wide trailor is basically two trailor (caravan) houses put together. It's a house that was bought on a trailor lot and then driven to the current property i live on. I don't know if I will ever slow down in my videos. Some things are played slow and fast, so it depends on what I think of playing. Buddy Rich is legend.

  • Every video you make is awesome, dude

Seriously, if you made an album w/ only drum tracks on it, i would buy it.

What's the name of your band again?

  • thanks! I was in two previous bands. Distortion Drum was first and that lasted 7 or 8 years. And then I joined Burn.Heal.Scar for a short lived 4 months. I jumped in that band after two members had left. I haven't been in a band in over a year and a half now. I MISS PLAYING SHOWS!!!!

  • I know what you mean.

I haven't been in a band for quite some time either, but i'm sure you'll find someone soon, mate.

Which band is playing in the video of yours called "Drum Tracks." That song is awesome. If it's not too much trouble, could you send that song to me?

  • The band's Distortion Drum.

I'm pretty sure it's two songs.

    "Circles", and "Tuxedo Whorehound"

    Something like that.

  • yeah, the drum tracks video is "Circles" and then a song we never titled or finished. That video is from when I was in Distortion Drum. I can send you both songs, even the other one which we didn't finsh. On the album, Circles goes into a song called "Tuxedo Whorehound", and the song we didn't finish is a secret track at the end of the CD.

  • actually, i also have to ask if the video is the April 25th, 2007 video or if it is just simply titled "Drum Tracks"... because both of those videos are from two different bands.

  • It's called "Beau Ferchaud-Drum Tracks"

I was wondering what the name of that song was, and if you could send it to me somehow. That would be incredible, mate.

  • oh yeah, that's Distortion Drum. I need an email address to send them to you.

  • Ive seen your videos from 2003 and 'till now, you play great, and no mater WHAT the config of your kit you always get great tone.

    great job!

  • thanks man!

  • me i dont like it

  • Cool stuff man! I like your variety. Do you have any tips for practicing? I mean I would like to able to just sit down and play whatever's on my mind but I want to get better at improvising. Any practicing "secrets" you have?

    Thanks buddy!

  • haha, i'm sorry but there are no secrets. I just practice what I know. I learned from watching and listening to other drummers that have influenced me.

  • The the deal at 5:58...freakin wicked

  • How the hell do you get your snare to sound like that?! Maj gad, that sounds amazing! How is it tuned?

  • You don't have any more ideas am i right?

It's pretty cool like usual. But is there coming smthng new?

You could try new styles. Like funk or jazz...

  • great as usual

  • hey mate.

    you're a huge inspiration.

    this video is brilliant.

    keep it up!

    major kudos, from Wales. =]

  • wow dude u're amazing. i have trouble coming up with solos, but u've inspired me! thanx bro

  • I like the little brake you took at like 5:39.

  • Loving your sound, and hardware. Perfect-the kit is simple where you need it and everything's really solid. Plus it's mixed amazingly. Subbed for sure.

  • do you have another floor tom now?

  • nope. What you see next to my floor tom is a practice pad on a snare drum stand.

  • oooo and some sneaky blast beats in there too, nice

  • OOOOHHH YES IM LIKING THE DOUBLE BASS DRUM!! the whole thing was great, but some good double bass always gets me going

  • And that awesome thing you do at 7:54!

  • Love the thing you do at 2:01..that is wicked.

  • Great playing !

  • how do u tune, record, and mix your toms? what is the EQ

  • you just want all my secrets, don't you?

  • i just want the secrets of the toms...mainly 16 inch

  • The toms are actually pretty raw in a way. After I record, i take the raw .wav file and put it through a bandpass of 75hz-13000hz, and then I compress it a little. For EQ, I boost 6000hz by 5db and 80hz by 2db for the floor tom. 6000hz by 5db and 120-150hz by 3db with the tom. They are mixed slightly louder than the overheads. Toms are recorded by Beta98 mics. The bottom head of the floor tom is medium tight and top is loose. The bottom head of the tom is tight and and the top is medium loose.

  • thanks for the EQ and the set up

  • You had cancer at one point dude? That really sucks. Great solo, I'd be willing to go through having cancer .. to have such great drumming talent, :P. Your alright though, right?

.. At least I say that now, till I end up with cancer, haha.

  • Yeah, i'm ok now. I had it 3 years ago.

  • do you not realise how inconsiderate you sound

  • that's true, huh. I don't wish cancer on anybody. It is the hardest thing to go through, and it literally affects everyone in your life.

  • wow, i think you are an inspiration to all modern drummers. so smooth and technical. nice job man

  • I really do want to do a video about that stuff, but I hate hearing myself and I don't think I'll get the point across. One of these days, I'll try though because I've been asked that question a few times.

  • Beau. Learn rudiments (you are using many of them in this solo but just don't realize it). Learn to read. Learn Moeller (you are already using the Moeller and don't realize when or what it is. Find out. You are a natural talent with enormous ability. Your horizons are limitless. You need to go professional. You never will unless you LEARN TO READ AND LEARN RUDIMENTS!!!!!! You're phenomenal And for crying out loud, send one of your videos to Modern Drummer for their annual show.

  • I KNOW! lol. thank you for your support. You've always had something inspiring to tell me.

  • The ending part when u turn ur snare off.. fuckin brilliant ending!!

  • Once again awesome drumming.

Reading your description of this video I may suggest you try a rudimental solo of paradiddles and sixes while incorporating the Moeller technique.

  • thank you! I would do those kind of videos, but I don't know any rudiments and I don't know how to do the Moeller Technique

  • my friend has a snare like yours!!! i love the way it soundS!!!!

  • It's an amazing snare drum.

  • yep!! it is!! even though i dont like how is kind of big but the sound is just so freaking nicE!! you play very well!!! i like your vidS!

  • man... i seriously hate you now...

  • A drum-off between YOU, Bonzo, Neil Peart, and Keith Moon would let me die a happy man.

Too bad bonzo and moon are dead. RIP

Keep at it Beau, you WILL go big. No doubt.

You are like my youtube drumming idol/inspiration. lol

  • I don't think you should die yet. You are too young to die.

  • haha.. i was just using a metaphore lol

  • haha, i know.

  • thanks for the latest, Beau! we all enjoy you vids for some of the coolest solos online, besides Tony Royster, Jr., Marco Minnemann, Spanky McCurdy & Aaron Spears. Keep it fresh!

    you can do it!

  • wow! you are comparing me to some BIG names! thanks!

  • lol. i grew up idolizing Buddy Rich, but drumming has gone to another creative level. besides the simple (rock) Bonham stuff that you've clearly mastered, I think you're capable of doing anything you want. just keep it fresh, expand your set, and go for it!

  • y did u cut your hair?

  • I've had my hair this short since the end of 2005. I went through cancer that year. After the chemo treatments my hair didn't grow back like it used to, so I like to keep it short now.

  • your drumsound is soooooo great =)

i would love to have a such a good sound like you have

  • thanks! If you tune your drums to have some good tone, and know a thing or two about recording, you can easily get that sound.

  • I wonder what it would feel like to get hit by your right hand drum stick at 0:33. AWESOME solo!

  • You'd probably get a sliver because that drumstick is chewed up!!

  • AWESOME! Beau's solos are back! :-)

  • yay!

  • much of the same awesome sounding soloing that we've come to expect. ...looking forward to more of what your special talent has to give.

  • I know. I really don't know what else to do! lol

  • Sweet solo man.

What kind of kit is this?

And how are you miking this?

  • Thanks! This is a BRX Pearl Masters Series kit. The snare drum is a Free Floating Maple Snare by Pearl. And I'm not sure how to answer your last question... I basically run the mics to a board and push record. After that, i mix the audio because each mic is recorded on its own channel. I use 8 mics. I have a detailed list of equipment I can send you through youtube if you want.

  • Cool, thanks.

    It all sounds awesome.

And as for the miking thing i meant do you just run drum mics through your computer with a video camera hooked up or something?

Or do the mics run through the camera?

I won't spam your video i'll email you.

  • The mics run through a board that is run through a computer. The Roland SI-24 is a mixing board but it's only a studio interface. It doesn't do the recording. It just functions with Logic RPC and a few other programs from around that time (2002). All mics run through it though, which run to the computer. Type up Roland SI-24 on the internet so you can get an idea of what i'm using.

  • He's back! Bout time! You inspired me to quit! Ha! Amazing talent!

  • Thanks! But don't quit! Watching jojo mayor makes me want to quit!

  • i love your style... john bonham would be proud...

  • one day we will all see you on tv dude another amazing vid.

  • Thanks for the info Beau
