  • @Jamesbryantoeng yeah dude I have a recipe on my web site for trout caviar. Cheers man

  • It looks so easy, but I totally agree with fishflaps123 ...... hahahaha, probably I will lose a finger to :) Btw don't you use the fish eggs??? If you do, how do you prepare/use them?? Keep the good work going :)

  • did you take the roe (caviar)?

  • Cheers mate! I've enjoyed a really nice, Scottish rainbow trout - caught by my mate's dad a few miles east of Edinburgh - All thanks to your video!

  • This IS legit.

  • awesome video

  • thank you so much for this Vid...

  • I've been eating rainbows very carefully for a long time! It will be nice to completely debone one. Thanks

  • sir u r awesome! can wait to start fishing.

  • does this work for all trouts like rainbow?

  • Great, a terrific way to dress trout. First is not as easy as you do it, but MUCH better than fillets. Well don.

  • someting gives me the feeling my attempt will take a hell of a lot longer than that, and possibly involve the loss of a finger.

  • @fishflaps123 LOL na man practice makes perfect.

  • What about the skin and excess fat?

  • Holy cow your knife big enough?

  • Is this called butterflying the fish?

  • you can try yo use the trout eggs as bait. it should work i don't see why not unless theirs something wrong with your tackel?

  • i eat trout eggs fried like french fries

  • I found it quite informative and educational. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this info.

  • VERY helpful ... Thanks

  • Nice

  • Very Good.... Those pin bones were tricky, thanks to your video I was able to precisely remove them. Thumbs up.

  • hahaha "boning" a fish get it

  • I just tried your method and it worked extremely well. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

  • waste of caviar

  • what bait did you use to catch that trout

  • I hope you teach that small child how to do this. All kids should know how to clean a fish. I wish my dad taught me stuff like this.

  • thanks. the video is awesome and very helpful

  • Thank you! Just what I needed to know.

  • Oh wow. You got alot of eggs in there.

  • beautiful roe. could be used for some amazing egg baits

  • Excellent video, thanks! I'll give this a try on some browns tomorrow...

  • Im new to fishing and trying to learn some outdoor skills (for 2012 of course) and I was wondering, does this de-boneing you show here work with any kind of fish? Do they all have the same bones is the same general area? This video helped alot and so far it seems to have comments saying its the best on youtube so ill practice with this method, Thank you!

  • @LuckySchaeffer Well most fish are built the same bonewise, but how they are layed out is different,if you can just learn the overall technique it works pretty well, but you'd need to use different knives and methods for different situations.

  • WOW!!! After mutilating 4 nice size trout to fry up for dinner I thought I'd check a couple videos about filleting the right way.

I must say I'm impressed. You make that look so easy. I'll be trying your technique next time.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • nice!!!

  • i hope u dont throw out the eggs... they are very tasty.

    good video.

  • I should have looked this up last night before I let dad cook the fish lol. We caught some and he knew how to gut them but not removes the bones meaning after they where cooked I tore that fish apart piece by pice doing bone removal with my mom yelling about how i was probably going to choke lol

  • That was very good!

  • very helpful. thanks

  • lol did you trip at 2:16??? great vid by the way

  • This is greatest video I have ever seen. BEST!!!! no kidding.

    So informative!

I will try this weekend. cannot wait!

    Thanks

  • Thanks. Very helpful.

To all the haters. Where's your video????

  • I tried it by far the best way to clean a trout and there is just as munch meat as if you fillet it and there is no dam pin bones I hate those things thanks best video I have seen

  • @juan79123

    cool dude, pleased it helped.

  • so what is there to cook now. isnt there another way to do this

  • you need to get yourself a fillet knife rather then that bannanna tree chopper lol!!

ive seen more meat on a vegetarians tooth pick!

  • nice fish

  • is this for trout or every fish.

  • I just did this! Cutting the head off was hard work for sure. The guts nearly made me puke because I could see the trouts last meal. The beauty is I actually caught the fish myself from the river. 3 1/2 lb. Hope it tastes nice!

  • Great video fella, very informative . Clear instructions and easy to follow, thanks and well done

  • Great video man. Beautiful fish too. That will make a great meal

  • Perfect man thanks! I have been doing it my own way for years. This saves me time and some meat on the tail.

  • Cheers for a great vid! Fish was clean & done in 4 mins .....

  • Did you catch that trout yourself?

  • One of the best videos I've seen on YouTube thanks!

  • thank you this is one of the best videos that I have seen

    colt

  • hehe boning a trout that doesnt seem dirty

  • Great vid I'm a married man now and don't have my mam to do this for me and wifey hates fish thanks man

  • AWESOME! I'm a total novice at this and I was able to do it the first time thanks to this vid. Many Thanks!

  • I also watched a ton of video's on de-boning and none of them really gave the information I needed. Being as I never cleaned a fish before and today is the first day of trout season I'm hoping that I can use your technique tonight! Thanks for the video!

  • Excellent! Thanks for posting!

  • dude .. u look like tom beringer :)

  • thanks you've been a great help!

  • Thanks, man! You just saved dinner. Gentleman in the fish store did obviously not quite get what I meant by whole trout, cleaned and boned.

  • Great stuff, that was a very informative video - thanks for making our boning experience a good one.

  • Very useful, thanks so much for making our boning experience a good one, very informative

  • COOL

  • It worked perfectly, now I can eat Trout like an Otter. No more silly Pin Bones. Thanks, Troy

  • this is a great video, very informative

  • Most helpful. the kid in the background made it seem more like a real home. I wonder if that was intentional or perhaps it just worked out that way. anyway Thanks Now I just gotta catch the buggars lol

  • A good lesson here. Thank you for sharing. I never saw pin bones removed like that- very smooth.

  • I bone my trout slightly different, I use my genitalia.

  • fantastic! Thank you so much!

  • That is how you make it just meat and skin

  • Thanks for the video. Very informative and helpful. Now if I can only make it to NZ to fish, I would be even happier!

  • Great video!! I have always wanted to go to New Zealand and fish for some of your big brown trout. Now if I ever do I can filet them like a Kiwi.

  • Very informative. Ive been gutting and cleaning fish for years and not seen it done this well. You Kiwis really know how this stuff is done well. Is there a method that can be done leaving the head on?

Great to hear the baby in the background - a real fishing persons video!

  • Hey mate, thanks for the comments. Yeah just cut down either side of the back bone and leave the head on. The skin should hold it in place, so you can hang it.

  • @rivergod21 after you gut it...the first cut is directly down the center of the spine ( backbone) or is the cut to the backbone on one of the sides , not the center?

  • @rivergod21 excellent job..who the hell would have known to do that..great work.

  • Tomorrow the our local dept. of natural resources is stocking some lakes with rainbows...i'ma have a go at it.

Hopefully, my fish hunting skills will fill my basket (or at least the 6 limit).

If so, I'll try baking the trout. Your vid helps get me going in the right direction as I'm used to just taking my knife to bass and crappie.

    tks.

  • I like the vid because it takes the fish's anatomy into account.

What I don't like is that you did not recommend the viewers to use the parts that you disposed of for a great fish soup.

It is a sin to waste good fish meat.

  • Thanks man, hope you did a good job on the smoking.

  • Great tutorial. Excellent method. I have a nice 1.5kg brown sitting in the fridge and am off to buy a smoker!

  • I just watched something like 20 videos about gutting and how to filet trout. Hands down, this was the best.

  • Hey there.

Thank you for the comment, I don't normally reply to these, but I will to you. Much appreciated and I hope you have tight lines for the rest of your life.

    Regards Shane

  • great video

  • really well done

  • Thanks©!!!!!

  • All the way in Seattle, WA here....thanks for the tips. My 3 and 5 year olds caught 5 trout yesterday and we need to clean them to have for lunch today. GREAT tips. Thanks!

  • PS

Did yer missus cut yer hair with the same knife?

  • Great stuff Shane. Didn't do it as well as you but I deboned it as per your method, salted it then smoked it.

  • Caught my first trout today! Helpful video to debone etc - thanks. (Not sure I made as good a job but will keep practising!)

  • that is nice!!!!!! well done, great video! :) thxs!

  • good video man. you get those pin bones out so easy... I'm a little jealous.

  • Caviar bru!!! Looks like a 7 or 8 pound hen to me!! Nice fish.. lil big for cooking tho.. she's a breeder!!

  • Hey Italia300. Na man that was 4 pounds at the most, (you need to catch some bigger fish dude).

The Taupo fishery needs these ""breeders"" Taken out otherwise we get the ""too many fish in a small pond"" thing going on.

On a more positive note, thanks for the comments and for watching the video, tight lines mate.

  • Wow you pulled out a ton of eggs, I couldn't even see the guts underneath.

  • very nice

  • nice..

  • wow thank you so much. Now it just takes some practicing on my part.

  • well done. pretty much how i do it

  • Wicked

  • why didnt you keep the eggs?
