i freaking love how Bob1 just hurls his guitar that was broken from that rippin solo out of the way and yells Mr. Kamakazee!!! like that was socially acceptable. They are one of the most bad ass bands of all time.
I saw Bob 1's guitar from this show (used in the Peek-a-boo video) on ebay a while ago. It was in bad condition having being saved from the garbage. Or so the story told.
Does he seriously have autism? I'm asking because I have Asperger's syndrome myself and he always struck me as delightfully odd but necessarily autistic. And I'd read in an interview that he'd struggled with addiction in the past.
I don't think any less of him, obviously (drugs or autism or whatever). DEVO is my favorite band and I admittedly always had a bit of a thing for him. ;)
yeah, he does have autisum, i met him backstage last year, we got to talking for a long time, my mom was talking to him and he said that he had autisum, he also [i was about 10 when i met him] was telling me how drugs were bad for you, because, in the 60s, people never knew what autisum was, so he was self medicated, which slowly led him into his drug adiction. in the 90s he came clean.
@1devo6587 I too have Asperger's and sometimes I'm in my own world. But all us Asperger people do have a few things we're excellent at! Me, I like to draw and mess around on my guitar. And rock out to DEVO. We're also known for being nice to people, too. Often misunderstood, we're smarter than what "normal" people perceive us to be.
yeah, he has autisum, when i met him in 2006 when i explained to him that i have autisum, he told me that he too has autisum, we became instant friends, such a nice funny guy! he was once telling me a story about how he was sponserd by boss [a company that makes guitar effects pedals] and how it was impossible for him to know which pedel was which beacause they were all the same color yellow! lol i still chuckle when i tell that story to people
I love how Bob 1 just ripps the guitar throws it (5:01 to 5:58) then shows off "big"muscles?! lol He does this at every concert(except the muscle weirdness).
At their last concert at the Bowery Ballroom in New York, Bob not only freaked out on the guitar -- he toppled off the stage, kept playing, found his way back up, then -- at the end-- burst all the strings of his guitar at once. It was epic.

This is my favorite version of this song, if only because Alan incorporates the Peek*a*boo handclap sound into the 2nd verse of Mr DNA.

5:55 - Bob 1 imitating "Bowser" from Sha Na Na.

...how to say this delicately... Was Bob 1 on drugs during this performance? He acts way weirder than usual. No?
(Still rocks though. Devo is the BEST!)

@1devo6587 That would explain his lack of talking, and very blunt way of answering questions.

@yossarian9 I was there! (Actually, it was Irving Plaza.) I was worried he'd hurt himself falling off the stage, but nope!
