I think the St.Lawrence River will soon produce the World Record. Unfortunately, since most ture Muskie fishermen bleive in live release we may never know. All species of fish in the St Lawrence River have been consistently larger of late. Probably due to the abundance gobies in the food chain. Lots of 7+ lb smallies to be had in the system. Anyway, good luck and good fishing.
I would agree with you that Wiscosin has some monster torpodoes. But I am one of those people who does not believe the Louie Spray fish is the world record. There have been some huge muskies caught in the St. Lawrence 40 acre shoal area recently including a live release Dale MacNair's fish in 09 that weighed 77 but Muskie Canada estimated to weigh 65 based on measurements and a large musky caught by Jason Phillips and Sandra Ellis which is estimated at 70+.
Hey what lake / state were you fishing. I catch a lot here in Canada and live 30 minutes from where the previous world record was caught. Thousand Islands area on the St. Lawrence river. If you go to the restaurant called "Musky Jakes" in Gananoque Ontario they have the previous world record (62 lbs and several 50 lb fish) hanging on the wall. It is worth the trip to go fishing in this area if you like Musky fishing. Take Care
Nice Muskie. There are few fresh water predators who provide a greater thrill. They fight to the death and have a high mortality rate because of it. If you fish them a lot try using barbless hooks and a cradle net. I guided at a fly in Canadian lodge where it's mandatory. We caught lots of 40+ fish with a 0% mortality rate. It worked great and I'm now a believer. The fish calms quickly and is easy to disgorge. Good luck and good fishing
