  • like how the chick is suprised to see her dog watching her plane. She must have felt guilty.

  • aussie bitches emirates owns you

  • "The Spirit of Australia"

  • So a single female long-haul flight attendant's dog is still alive

  • i love the music, what is the name of the song?, please please tell me

  • The song is Dire Strait's "Local Hero"

  • over 40 times a week, we're coming to get you

  • "We're coming to get you", sounded like a threat! ... but he so polite about it!

  • I like the usage of Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits in this clip.

  • @kenobiplaysthebanjo it's actually Dire Straits' "Local Hero" not Brothers in Arms. I completely loved this ad when I was a kid.

  • dont you think people will be scared when they say WERE COMING TO GET YOU

  • "fetch you.." would've sounded less like a threat :P

  • when i saw this ad i was only 8. it made me want to travel the world...and now i have...

  • Love how the dog is thrown onto the bed by someone off screen..........the dog is like.......WTF?

  • I remember this add back in NZ... I was about 9- 10 years old! This add made me want to be pilot..24 years later I've realised that dream! Thanks Qantas.. Just goes to show.. You can be what ever you want to be if you put your mind to it!

  • I don't really like the line.. We are coming to get you... Sounds like Qantas wants to kill me:P hahaha(:

  • There were two versions of this advert. The Qantas uniform changed during its airing period. The first version showed the Pucci prints which were swapped to the Yves St Laurent uniform shown in this version.

I moved from Australia to NZ in the 1980's and this ad used to make me quite homesick! It's a pleasure to watch again.

  • Thank you for the information. Additional information has been added to the description.

  • According to Raymond Babbitt(Dustin Hoffman in the 1988 Oscar-winner 'Rain Man'),the Qantas airline never crashed. That may not be true anymore. At least until 1988,Qantas had no crash history.

  • Qantas has never had a fatal crash. A Qantas 747-400 did however run off the end of the runway at Bangkok in 1999, without any injuries.

  • In 1960, they also had a crash on takeoff due to engine failure, with one passenger taken to hospital.

I'm pretty sure the movie indicates no fatal crashes however. It's been a while since I saw it.

  • Back in the days before Qantas downgraded their services to JetStar.

  • lol poor dog all alone rofl

  • do you have the 1990 Qantas ad that played the eagle rock?

  • No, sorry. I don't recall that one myself (possibly blanked it out because I hate the song).

  • Bit of a creepy tagline!

  • roflmao

  • ive been looking for this ad and more importantly the song for 15 years or more, thank you so much for sharing!

  • Qantas 747-300, I recall they even used those to simply go between Chch and Sydney, something that is done with planes as small as 737s now! - It was later in the 80s that Kiwi rival Air New Zealand were ordering the larger 747-400...

  • I hate flying on the 737 to Australia because they have a single narrow isle. The last time I was on a 747 to Australia was probably five years ago. Air NZ uses the 777 on the route I fly most, so I pick those flights where I can.

Air NZs first 747-400 (ZK-NBS) was delievered in 1989, but appears to have immediately gone in to service with Cathay Pacific. This aircraft has recently been retired.

  • Dire Straits - Going Home (Theme From Local Hero).

  • Thank you SO much...have been wondering about that since 1987!!

  • We're coming to get you - kind of creepy hahaha

  • i love this ad...really nice :)

  • were coming to get you...sounds like a threat

  • lol

  • kind of a creepy end lol

  • Yes, I see what you mean...

  • ...mmm, and then bigfoot and osama bin laden, along with homer simpson will pull the world out of the current financial situation..

  • Homer Simpson can do anything!

  • I've heard Qantas is apparently going to postpone all services in 2011 and close as a company.

They are becoming very unpopular and are expensive.

  • Qantas will never close down, Jetstar is is replacing unprofitable routes, and Qantas is focusing on customer service and the higher end of the market.

  • pizzapizzapizza918, ... QANTAS is here to stay

  • yes its true they are going into cable TV and infomercials instead !!

  • Qantas is one of Australia's best company's and It is here to stay. Qantas will never close down, and if there buying 20 A380's, why you think there shutting down?

  • They've delayed the orders and sacked 1750 employees recently. It's a shame. But I doubt that they'll go under.

  • your misunderstood with the possible British Airways takeover earlier this year. it turned out all untrue and qantas since took delivery of 2 more A380's and jetstar has started flying to more destinations. I live in Adelaide and jetstar has just started flying to 3 additional destinations including perth so at the moment your claim is pending.

  • qantas was 100% Australian then :-(

  • Still Is

  • dire straits are too good

  • Look out Qantas is coming to get ya!!

  • It may be a bit later than 1988 because from what I can see it's in it's more current livery. And even though the seats on board look old qantas was sort of not realy that in with the plane trends until the intro of the updated 747's and sleeper seats in bussiness and first class.

  • The ad was filmed Dec 1986. The aircraft in the interior shots was a brand new 747-300 The City of Perth, the exterior shots was The City Of Canberra VH-EBX.

  • Thank you for the information. This has been added to the description.

  • iv heard qantas isnt very safe

  • Sounds a little bit sinister.

  • awesome ad!!!!! back in the days when the 743's where modern:) now theyre shoved on the domestic routes... soon to be sold however:)

  • We're coming to get you?! Way to freak out your customers, 1988 Qantas!

  • haha!!!!!

  • What a cool old ad!

  • A great ad, and the people that make it all possible:- pilot, flight engineer, ground engineer and flight attendant.

  • Great clip, great memories. Does anyone know what the guitar music at the end is?

  • The music in the ad is the theme from "Local Hero".

  • Mark Knopfler "going home" from movie Local hero

  • Also I think they did a version of this ad when Qantas was first listed on the sharemarket as a promo to get people to take part in the IPO

  • Excellent! I have been looking for this ad for years! I love the shot of the takeoff with the guitar music! Yeah.

  • Unfortunately, Qantas has now become an embarrassing disgrace, and will be eventually overtaken by inferior subsidiary, JetStar, so that QF executive can reduce salaries and conditions, and charge passengers for every little extra.

  • I HATE QANTAS TOO

  • Qantas seem to be having problems with a few of their older aircraft causing delays. Hopefully there'll be no more delays on the new 787s and A380s.

  • you all are SO whiney ... have you noticed what's happened with the american airlines? the prices have skyrocketed and we NEVER get decent service! NEVER! we pay extra for our bags and too have an AISLE seat! and that's united! UNITED!

  • Calm down, we all know that not every seat can be a window seat, regardless of what you paid for it.

  • A fantastic ad from my school days and one of the reasons why I wanted to be a pilot. Thanks for posting this! Brings back many memories!

  • My first 747 flight was with QANTAS (747-300 VH-EBT), best flight I have every had. Truely the Queen of the sky! Can anyone make out the rego of this plane in this vid?

  • Before posting this video I tried to identify the registration from my higher quality capture. Unfortunately there just isn't enough detail in the image to be able to see this.

  • "We're coming to get you" sounds like some kind of stalker. Qantas is truly the best airline in the world.

  • They only had 40 flights a week?

  • from au to nz, that was then in 1989.

  • Totally awesome:)

  • Long live the 747! True queen of the sky!

  • Nice ad! Thanks for posting
