it was the reason they started that rule. they were getting so much crap from fans that they knew the had to do something to make it meaningful... but its still not meaningful, as the only players who could give a hoot about whos got home field come october are players on contending teams, which is just a handful

sorry didnt answer your question... they went by who had the better record as they had for the past hundred years. an example of why this WS HFA is such bologna is that, why would clint hurdle further raise his blood pressure by stressing over a 163rd game, when his hapless rockies are so far out of the playoff race they are thinking of trading holliday? i think that bud selig and his men need to go back to the drawing board and find a way to make this game count for everyone.

it was tied 7-7 in extra innings and they decided that rather than over work pitchers and players in a game that didnt matter, they just called it.

it was tied in like the 16th inning nd they were running out of pitchers this was a year before they added the home field advantage in the world series for who won the all star game but still that was a classic game

I would've liked to have seen this controversial game but I had to work that night. But I remember tuning into sports talk radio the next day and hearing people blast the game because it ended in a tie.
