I had to sign in, which I could usually care less about doing, and just say that I am in some sort of love trance every freakin' time I hear this song. Thank-you to every one who had even a small part in putting this video up. There is Love.
I was fortunate enough to have this song performed by a dear friend at my wedding in 1980 and chokes me up each and every time I hear it. God was clearly holding Paul Stookey's hand the day he wrote this!
@1229Jen Love your poignant expression that "God was clearly holding Paul Stookey's hand the day he wrote this.. you put my feelings into beautiful words.
I've been looking for this song since the last Wonder Years episode. 16 years ago. I tried before, and after hearing it in the supermarket tonite, I thought I'd give it a try again. Thank you Google, Thank you YouTube, Thank You Internets. There is Love.
As fitting a song for that holy occasion as any ever written. we were married in 1970 (still are, always will be) and this song hadn't come out. We had Lennon/Mccartney's In My Life and Here, There, And Everywhere- not exactly chopped liver! we'd have had this played, too. You can't have too much music. Thanks, paul stookey.
Had this at my wedding in 1987. First time to view the video. Such an amazing voice, and sung with such intensity. Paul Stookey has amazing musical talent! Truly a masterpiece!
There was a time in the 70's and early 80's when this could be heard at many a wedding. It ultimately became cliche.....I'd love to go to a wedding now and hear it instead of the garbage you hear now.
Truly among those rare creations that were revealed to an artist through divine inspiration. Paul's guitar caresses and carries the melody like a guardian angel.
I think b/c my situation is different. My man is far away from me so I miss and cherish every moment I get to be with him, a few times a year. I want to have a private ceremony, no one else but us. Maybe that's why I wouldn't mind blubbering. I love him so much he makes me cry out of happiness :)
A full and complete masterpiece. A tour de force of love songs that I don't think can be matched. Thank you Paul for this gem of a lifetime, it will be played at my wedding!!
@Bigtime1998 Good on you. It was played at my wedding in 1974, at the completion of my wife's and my vows, by my best friend: a very good folk singer and player in his own right who used to write with me.
My friend had long blond hair and a ginger beard; he had been sitting quietly to the side and when he stood to sing an old lady among the audience exclaimed: "It's The Christ! He's come to life."
My brother sang this at my wedding in 1985. He died in January...MY GOD I MISS HIM.....Mike, I love you and miss you and would give anything to have you back....
when i'm older i wanna become a cover artist for them and bob dylan! they have such good music!!! thats not what most girls who r 13 say these days!!!
This song just never got the full recognition that it deserves, possibly the best love song of all time.

I wonder if we are possibly as uptight as this Australian crowd in 1970 looks? :) Music medicine do your stuff!

Arguably one of the best songs ever written. His writing of this song was a moment of magic that rarely comes along.

This song always reduces me to a blob of tears. Watch Paul's eyes as he sings this. Wherever he was, it sure wasn't Sydney...
