thanks for this upload. I was watching a bugs bunny cartoon with the song in it and liked it enough to look for the original. it's one of those songs I'd like to learn to play
Trivia - this song is in the Looney Tunes cartoon "Little Red Riding Rabbit" and sung by Bea Benedaret (Betty Rubble of "The Flintstones"). Thanks for posting.
It was also heard in "White Heat." During the one scene where Cagney's henchmen are preparing to leave the hideout house, it can be faintly heard playing on the radio in the background.
And you know what? I bet the 5 o'clock whistle really DID blow, but the singer's papa just pretended it didn't and used that as an excuse for sneaking home late at night.
Is it just me or does this song sound like 'The Syncopated Clock' a little more than somewhat? Did Leroy Anderson write this one too?

This song is all about a woman who has a strong suspicion that her man is cheating on her after hours.
And what was that five o'clock whistle?? Nice euphemism. I like the silliness.

So good to hear this again. I had this 78 rpm record but lost it years ago.

"HEY GRANDMA! THOSE ARE AWFUL BIG EYES... TO HAVE!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Big eyes. Big eyes."
One of my favorites! :)

I've learned more about music and americana by watching WB cartoons than any stupid book. God Bless Carl Stalling!
