@MrDeejayKito kito yes thats what there branded for professional djing this are great and if you know how to scratch even better make sure you get the direct drive I see people on here getting the belt drive get the AT-LP120 or get the recent ones that just came out the AT-LP1240 belt drive are fine but the belt usually wears down so get the direct drive
Technics Turntabe has been manufactured since October 1972 by Matsushita he founded what is now know as Audio Technica. The name was then change to Panasonic Established in New York City in 1959
1962 Hideo Matsushita establishes Audio-Technica Corporation in Tokyo’s Shinjuku-ku. The Company launches the AT-1 and the AT-3 MM stereo phono cartridge and begins to supply these cartridges to audio equipment manufacturers in Japan.
Also the price for the Audio Technicas is better buy at 500 dollars a table the LP-120 is actually half of that. The only Problem is with the AT-PL1240 you cant find em the nearest place is in canada. If you can find some i say get em its a new revolution promise on my life.
Audio_technicas are the best there actually made by Hideo Mashushita the dame guy who made the technics this is the reason why they stopped making the technics. The AT-LP120 is the precurser to the AT-PL1240 which just came out this year jan 2012. They have more torque than any technics and better time coding for windows and mac Virtual dj and serato more advanced features like he said its what the technics shoulda evolved into this which Mashushita did least it was dethrowend by the same guy
Do NOT buy this table if you are a scratch dj!!!! Great turntable for mixing but the platter is super wobbly and wont hold a needle with heavy scratching.
@MrYakYakoo Yeah it works with serato but I recently tested these out and they just didn't make the cut. Try to find some used Numark TTX on Ebay or Craigslist. You will thank me later!
@faststik7 Dude thanks but no thanks I have the AT-PL1240 for professional djing aint nuttin better maybe youll test those I dont care if you got Technics these are better.
OMG!! NE1 who thinks this is REMOTELY CLOSE to a real SL1200 is brain-dead!!! and the SL1200 is STILL NO-WHERE NEAR A HIGH END TURNTABLE!! It's a bomb-proof table that always works (I have 2 among many other Technics tables and vinyl), and they can sound very good, but I have seen the AT and it is mostly PLASTIC SHIT!! But it IS the best of the fakes- there are others that look almost identical to the SL1200 and are pure pure lightwieght plastic! Even the platter was was pure plastic!! GAG!
I think most people would go for the Technics if they were still in production and didn't cost so much. Amazon wanted almost £1000, for a used one. So I think I am going to go for this one but I have no interest in deejaying so I hope it is fine for just home use. Any advice gratefully accepted before I commit.
thanks for the info, just got an a-t LP240 usb. hope i haven't made a mistake. but time will tell. not getting it out of the box till i finish the room down stairs.
I have both tables, and I prefer the my technics mk5 over the lp-120, the lp 120 is still a great table. For one the 1200's have better wow & flutter characteristics due to a significantly better motor design which uses a ring shaped magnet under the platter & electromagnetic induction. Also the LP-120's weight is due to a large metal plate screwed into the bottom as opposed the the 1200's thick plinth which is a little gimmicky. While the build quality is not as good the LP-120 is versatile.
I will not be bias, but when it comes the best alternitive to the performance of a technic 1200, the audio techica is the best choice. I used 1200s for years until mine was stolen. I reserched and found that these were made by the same guy that made the 1200, and perform just as well. The biggest diference I found was running vdj timecode the 1200s did not perform as good, but worked excellent with serato, but the audio technica worked great with both serato, and virtual dj. A Plus for LP-120
Ignore the hate, I'm with you 100% James, I have been using my AT LP120 for a month now and completely satisfied. I going to pickup another in a few weeks. Wow!
James, nice video. Do you experience any rattling of the motor when no record is playing or when it is very quiet music? I own this and a belt drive and love everthing about the AT except for this slight wobbly noise - quiet, but annoying enough if you know it's there...
The Audiotechnica is a fine turntable for many people, especially as a first turntable. But don't be fooled by the cosmetic similarities to the Technics 1200. Once you go "under the hood" and look at the internal workings of both tables, the similarities end. The build design and quality of the Technics table is far ahead of the Audiotechnica. If someone wants the features, durability, and performance of a Technics, they should get a Technics...plain and simple.
@mjanovec I wouldn't say that this is somebody's first turntable: I started out with a crosley before finding out that the needle was bad, and was ruining my records. I find this turntable looks more like a 1200mk2, but I wouldn't know much about technics: I'm more of a guy who prefers Dual, but it's still at my grandfather's house, and he uses it constantly to this day. I now just have an ion turntable. It's hard to get a decent turntable at 15...
if u notice guys, the same guy that made technics 1200 for the past 35 years works for Audio Technica now. the guys name starts with Matsu something, check it out on wikipediaif u guys do not believe me. He's the same guy.
you cant compare it to the history and legacy and reliability
of the Technics 1200, Btw Why Would Anyone Buy a Technics Replica? Aint Easier To Buy The real deal or a numark ttx, at least you are true with your self....Denon / Pioneer / Technics Best Brands period
@BlocksTV Check the history Audiotechnica and their contribution to art and history of quality sound... I have used and 1200's for well over 25 years. I am not hear to go back and fourth but to share in a positive way, so I will stop here. I wish you all the best in your opinions. Easy
I finally took the time and setup the my VMS4 for timecode with Virtual DJ7 to one deck, I dusted off my Technics SL D2(now that's old school). I like the feel of vinyl so want to get back into using tables. Looking to getting a ATLP120 for now, amazon currently have them under 200. I have done spec comparison the 1200's and the ATLP120 and found the starting torque is roughly the same 1.5 to 1.6 kgf-cm. I would like to see how the ATLP120 compares in actual beat joggling with the 1200.
Agreed! but we are not speaking of headphones or microphones. I think only time will tell how good or long lasting these turntables are. Based on my experience scratching puts much more pressure to the motors than just playing or plain mixing with turntables and so far only Technics are the ones can keep up with that in the long run. I might consider them next time I buy turntables and waiting on some turntablist to post some reviews on this device.
