I live in a conservative area. People at my church will immediately describe liberals as "Big Government". They also support the Patriot Act, wiretapping without oversight, bringing the government into the bedroom, bringing the government into any church that believes in gay marriage, etc. Liberals have become too wrapped up in socialismesque economics and gun control. Other than that, they are small government.
