  • Hes like the Bond of the books!

  • what a dreamboat!!!!!!!!

  • un des meilleurs film de delon

  • long live french cinema, delon, coluche, louis du funis and all those funny actors.

  • Simply Masterpiece. Bryan's Ferry Don't stop the Dance is a very good compliment to the movie too :)

  • Patricia Highsmith herself once said that Delon as Ripley was perfect.

But she never watched the Minghella remake and Damon as Ripley.

Truth is: they are two amazing movies, two amazing performances.

  • I have said it before ...no one man ever looked better than Delon in this film.

  • I watched this film twice Delon is the best!

  • loved it, also the music awsom toooo

  • I love the video & the music "Don't stop for love". It reminds me of my long ago club days where I wish I could've found Alain Delon. Margueritevingt-neuf

  • I am replying to moi-meme ! Vive ! Alain Delon !

  • buena cancion!!... y en estos momentos estoy leyendo el libro.. muy interesante..!

    nice song!..

  • u-la-la que maravilhoso. delon vc é demaissssssssss

  • Very tastefully done! Nice!

  • Good point, there is a visceral quality to this film in that it is filmed in the same historical period. TTMR could only approximate that, although Ann Roth did an amazing job. Although the TTMR (novel and film) are both set in the context of American expatriates lapping up the 'Dolce Vita' period of italian prosperity and basking in its hip, happy go lucky culture, this french version places less value on that particular cultural context and instead sets it in a general french riviera scene.

  • someone who places an inordinate amount of argumentative weight into establishing a fact which, although usually correct, has only little value or relevance to the broader argument. I'm not arguing that PN was not adapted from TTMR (novel), i'm just exasperated at people who dismiss TTMR (film) as a remake of PN. It is a fresh (and quite different) re-adaption and reinterpretation of the novel (not PN) which pays a respectful, deliberately noticeable Cinematographic homage to PN.

  • part 5: None is better. Personally i find TTMR the best, PN resonates with you more. Best is a subjective term. I'm glad that we're all different and our experiences and values make us identify with different narratives and different nuances of the same essential narrative. It's good to have someone to have an intelligent discussion with.

  • this is part 4 so read them from the bottom up. Come to think of it, i do not recall the boat voyeur scene in the novel. And the Freddy Miles murder scene is almost duplicated. Minghella was perhaps paying homage to the previous film version by staging almost identical camera angles for those scenes. In all, the things he developed (which Highsmith would not have been at liberty to do) resonate well with interviews the author gave in her later years, available on youtube.

  • wonderful movie. I saw the talented mr. ripley with matt damon and jude law, and I like it very much. but this movie is better.

... and alain delon is on the top of his beauty :lol:lol:lol:

    thank you for the video!!!

  • ...you're welcome. :)

  • I Couldn't agree more :)

  • Alain Delon at his best

  • i love him very much...............

  • I found it! :)

  • pls, can u tell me the name of this song?

    i love it!

  • What's the name of this song?

  • Wow, this BRIAN FERRY really does the JOB for atmosphere here.

  • I think I just can't watch this movie...I'm just 14...

  • Plein Soleil. I know a woman who got sick after watching this movie. Could not accept such a handsome man portraying a cold killer. And also...because she fell in love with him, naturally. Great movie. Congrats to Maurice Ronet too. And Marie Laforet

  • perfect combination of alain delon and bryan ferry.

  • I adore Alain Delon, but I prefer Minghella's "Talented Mr Ripley" by far. Dickie is so much more charismatic, when he disappears, the spectator literally misses him. As it was said, Tom Ripley interpreted by Matt Damon is so much more sentimental and sensitive. Tom has feelings for Dickie. "Plein Soleil" remains a very good movie. But it's just different, this is very "French style.

  • I agree completely. "The Talented Mr. Ripley" simply is a better movie.

  • I don't agree but I do think Mangella did an excellent job redoing Purple Noon.

  • Dude, Minghella didn't re-do Purple Noon, he adapted his 1999 film from Patricia Highsmith's novel The Talented Mr Ripley. Having read it, i find Minglella's TTMR a closer adaption of its namesake than the early film version. Patrica Highsmith liked Alan Delon by all accounts, preferring him over the inferior versions released between PN/PS and TTMR, one including The American Friend (with Dennis Hopper, i think). Unfortunately she died before seeing Minghella's masterpiece.

  • Re-do, adapt. That's just semantics. Whether one was a closer adaptation, I cannot argue. What I am saying is that the direction and acting in Purple Noon is slightly better for my taste. It is not fair to compare the films from a production standpoint as the films were made some 3 decades apart. BTW, The American Friend is an excellent film. I highly recommend it.

  • I hate to be a pedant, but it's not a matter of semantics! He did not re-do the film Purple Noon. He adapted The Talented Mr Ripley directly from Highsmith's novel, The Talented Mr Ripley. I don't think Purple Noon figured in his inspiration. They're so different, i doubt he let it contaminate his own vision of the tale. Minghella was inspired by Highsmith alone. I think Jude Law may have watched it though - His Dickie Greenleaf seems similar to Maurice Ronet in posture and expression.

  • I appreciate Alain Delon's menace in this film. He has got this jack in the box unpredictability, like a coiled spring or snake and the scene where he eats pineapple with a huge knife is so menacing. Minghella took liberties with the novel to make Ripley less amoral, more like someone whose homosexuality, social insecurities and personal rejection have led him down a road of deception and disassociation, to the point of becoming a borderline sociopath.

  • Quoting Italo Calvin, Minghella said the story is always better with a little added. I have to agree and think that Highsmith would have agreed that it was commiserate with her tale. Thanks for the tip about the American Friend. I had written it off, but will trust your advice : )

  • I can smell a pedant a mile away and you are by far the biggest pedant I have ever met...what's a pedant? Ok, look, I think we are having a communication breakdown. Are you saying Purple Noon is not also an adaptation of the original novel. I found several similarities between the two films and I think each is a masterpiece in its own right. Nothing against the later, as it is an excellent film but my heart lies with the first and the era of filmmaking within which it was made.

  • Fabulous combination of two eras and two men with killer looks: Alain Delon and Brian Ferry.

    Perfect!

  • I just saw this movie the other day...Delon is the perfect Ripley. I just wish it didn't end the way it did so Clement and Delon could continue the series.

    Delon>Damon & Malkovich

I haven't seen the American Friend (the first adaption of Ripley's Game) with Dennis Hopper but I doubt he has anything on Mr. Delon.

  • I don't know which one is the perfect Ripley, they're totally different i think..Matt Damon's Ripley was too sentimental, completely the opposite of Delon's Ripley who didn't give a damn about Dickie (here renamed Phillipe). I found Delon's Ripley a little more sinister..there's a scene, I think is after killing Freddie where he goes directly into the kitchen, sits down and devours a chicken (literally), Lol..I was like WHAT THE F***!!

  • cuando recuerdo esas peliculas tengo que darle gracias al icaic por aquellos tiempos gloriosos de peliculas en la habana

  • nice video

remind me of this incredible movie I watched several years ago..thx

  • My favourite movie, my favourite actor and a sexy song, thank you! =)
