  • clavinet through a wah pedal is the best sound ever created

  • @3Dtacos no thats a bass guitar

  • is this the thing they play on seinfeld?

  • @3Dtacos Seinfield is bass guitar slapping ;)

  • Its amazing how creative the musicans were back then to whack that sound through a wah wah to make it even funkier.

  • Can you like write this out somehow ? and send it to my email bryah734@aim.com

  • That sounds like 1977 all the way!!! Sounds amazing! I want to learn heat you are playing in the beginning of the video, that riff you played with the wah pedal. Can you help me? Thanks

  • Are you playing it through that Motion Sound stereo combo amp in the background? How do you like that amp?

  • Holy. Mother. Of. Clav.

You must have been channeling Billy Preston. Send him my greetings.

  • boom chicka wow wow

  • the frontman of the Crash Kings has that same model only his has a whammy bar! very cool

  • FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKYYYYYYYYYY

  • Are you John Medeski?

  • Oooooh... That makes me feel nice inside.

  • Sick mate!!

  • nice!!!!!

  • very cool. i love this. thanks for sharing

  • いいね〜so nice!

  • SUPER ZVUK A HRA!!! 5***** :-)

  • That sounds bad ass!

  • Man, this thing sounds so cool! Where can I get one of these? And how much did it cost?

  • i think they stopped producing these in 1975... i just think, don't really know.. so if you're lucky you can get one of these on ebay... there are also other models E7 or clavinet DUO.. same thing but with extras ;).... if you're from EU you'll pay about 900euros, if from the states, a little more

  • @r3dmax I notice that Stevie Wonder still uses the Clavinet D6. He used it to play "Superstition" during his "Live at Last" show in London (2008). A lot of folks think that the funky riff in the song is played on an electric guitar, but if you check this site you can clearly see his main keyboards include the Hohner alongside other brands.

  • @zyzzyvacation sure, just for info (you probably know that), clavinet uses strings for each key. And it works almost the same as a guitar. It has 2 pickups, and the keys are pressing on the strings... same thing as if you would play "tapping" on a regular guitar.

  • Yeah. These are great. I recently got mine for $1000cnd straight up.

  • stevie wonder's "superstition" springs to mind, he uses this instrument

  • jack, jack, jackpot!

  • woooaah you made my day with those melodic lines. groooovy.

in 00:12 you switch some FX on, sounds like a wah pedal..is this a original feature of the hohner d6?

    or came from ya setup?

do you have a video showing the setup?

big big thanks for sharing this video.

  • as mentioned in the comments below.. its a crybaby wah... and it's not a feature of the D6.. you have to buy it separate... but i am preparing a video with EH DoctorQ autowah now.. i just have to borrow a camera.. momentarely without it... not even on the phone:).. sorry no video of setup... this one consist of a clavinet D6+crybaby wah+motion pro 3d amp (seen in the back), that's about the setup ;).. hope it helps

  • thanks a lot for your explanations. it really helped a lot. i imagine you are using a dunlop's crybaby gcb-95 pedal.

  • exacly

  • could u teach me chords for that riff dat starts at 0:06??pllzzzz

  • are clavinets really monophonic(one note at a time)?

  • clavinets work on same principe as guitars.. but with the "tapping tehnique".. (they have strings under keys. Each key has a separate string.

Are guitars monophonic? If so, you can consider clavinet the same :)))

  • so therses a difrent string for each note?

    that makes sence

  • you got the point there :) ;)

  • so it's like a regular piano.

    kudos on your playing BTW

  • not at all, more like as a clavinet playing friend put it "a mega guitar"

  • he r3dmax, just a musician trying to get that sound on my keyboard. could you please explain to me how this instrument works, do you use a pedal to get those effects your sound or does your keyboard do that automatically? Do you know if it's possible to get a sample of that sound, so I can get it with my MIDI keyboard? thanx a lot I like how you play..

  • i use a crybaby wah and i control it with my leg.. you can hear when i switch it on at the start. There is lots of samples made for clavy.. but i prefer using a NI electric piano Vst plugin.. record notes and make your own samples, or just simply use it ;)

  • Bach would be spinning in his grave if he heard this

  • i wonder at what RPM?

  • OVER 9000!

  • Clav is always insane sounding!

  • what key are u playin in?

  • Realizationis :

    > what key are u playin in?

We call it 2/5 in C. It is Cm7 and F7. And a little G7#9 to top this.

Commdores' Brick House, Pink Floyd's Breathe, Spookie, Billy Cobham's Red Baron,

Venus, Santana's Oye Como Va ...

It's an endless list of popular Song which basicly were build out of 2/5.

On the way through a harmonic basic on a piano, Jazzplayers add 2/5 without to mention.

Not to mention all the musicians on jam session, caught in a 2/5-loop endlessly.

  • Not to be a theory snob here, but I think if you are in the key of c, C is your I and F is you IV and the G is the V, so you are really doing a 1/4 jam there. Jazz players do often use the 2/5/1, which in C would be Dm, G, C. , and yes, the 1/4 and the 1/4/5 are the biggest chord progressions in pop music by far. Sweet clav, btw, sounds awesome.

  • Sorry, I-IV would be Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side.

It's II-V because it's minor in the first chord and seven based on a major chord in the second.

  • Take out the V and slow this down and it is basically "walk on the wild side" with a minor 1. The major IV ( or V as you call it) has nothing to do with the symbol for the tonic. There is a 7 for the F contained in Cm7, but that would not change the notational guidelines for the I or i chord. After all, there is also a 9, and a 4, but those also do not change the symbol for the tonic. The only way you can get II in here is if you view this progression as v/I/II, which is a stretch eh?

  • am i black enough for ya?

  • I'm not sure

  • @spagspider

    It's not C ionian, but C dorian.

    (Translated in english greek?)

    German is:

ionisch, dorisch, phrygisch, lydisch, mixolydisch, aeolisch, lokrisch.

Put in the the first three in google, and you will be a bit smarter.

2/5/1, Cool? That's it, leave out the 1, which in this case is Bb. (B flat).

Good luck, if you guess further on.

  • Dude, be cool, let's not bring smarts into this. All I can figure right now is theory rules are different in Germany. If he were playing in Bb, which he isn't, yes this is 2/5. That being said, Dorian? If this guy is exploring modal theory, I'll eat my hat. Sorry man, that is a huge stretch. Play along with the man, he's just rocking good old C-7 F7 and G7. I IV V In english we use -ian instead of -isch for our modal endings, so I am smarter now in a sense. Show me a link or go home.

  • @spagspider I'm already at home.

I neved succeed in posting link in U-Tube.

Learn to goolgle. Look for a school of jazz.

  • I don't agree with that interpretation of this piece. I had to brush off my old theory books, but now I think I know what you are talking about. Yes, assuming he is operating in Cdorian, your key signature will be that of Bb, thus creating a situation where C is the ii chord. That is not what is going on here. In terms of playing with people in the US, if you show them a tune like this and say it's a 2/5 you will be laughed at. If you say it's a 1/4 you will both have a good time. Done. Bye.

  • @spagspider

Sorry, I'm a jazzer. 1/4 is Walk On The Wild Side.

  • Night and Day=ii V RFDlic, We are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one, most jazzers I know would call this a 1/4, or really they would say "lets do a C minor funk blues thing in 4" and not even bring chords into the deal. I'm done with talking about it, and thank you for getting me to think actively about modal theory, which I haven't done since college. Depending on how you view the song harmonically, we are both right. Let's leave it at that. Cheers.

  • @spagspider

    1/4?

If so, how will they call Lou Reed's song?

  • They will probably say "Hey guys, you all want to play 'Walk on the Wild side'? It's sweet." Then everybody will have a party.

  • @spagspider

    Thank you!

  • some funky grooves u got there...big ups!

  • play up on cripple creek!

  • Any tips on making Clav riffs?

  • try playing blues ...but a bit faster :)

  • omg...cool!!

  • Class, man!!!

  • More! We want more!

  • I want it

  • how funky!!!!!!

  • badass

  • Nice! :D
