  • Crackers can't dance....

  • Edwin moved to Bramcote, Nottinghamshire, England. His epitaph reads "keep the faith"

  • Such a powerful song!

My god am I upset that he's no longer with us, I would have loved to have experienced him live!

  • I ROCK to this, and have always had it in my top 25 ... it was so great to see Edwin Starr perform it live on stage just a few short years ago. He still sang it with a passion -- right after he finishes the song, look at the glee and the boyish JOY on his face ... that smile is PRICELESS !!

  • 25 MILES

  • Grand performance! Missing you, sir...

  • Try to sit still and NOT sing along to this!

  • This song makes me happy!

  • Yes, This Is A Fantastic Gig! 5*

  • Probably my favourite Edwin Starr song.

  • Edwin Starr moved to England because he was tired of war and racism in the U.S.. You can hear it in his music. I remember "War" vividly for the scenes of Vietnam carnage it generated in my imagination. Powerful, his voice. Anger, and anguish. Real. Thank you.

  • Feet don't fail me now,,,,,,, :)

  • Seen this amazing guy live loads of times and he always delivered. One of the true great soul voices..

  • Alright, seems I just discovered one of my new all-time favorite youtube videos. Thanks.

  • Thanks for this video! I remember when my sister bought this song. He was so energetic. The song sounds as good as it did when he first recorded it. One of the forgotten ones by BG. He had to move to Europe (?) to get the deserved recognition, and did quite well, from what I understand.

  • If you're not tapping your foot and shakin' your butt to this song----call the coroner because you're most likely dead.

  • LOVE IT! I'm hiking Mt. Whitney - the tallest peak in the 48 states - this summer, and this is the PERFECT theme song for our group of hikers! Crank it up! kathleenrockneyblog!

  • One of the best soul songs ever

  • Magic!

  • adevtures in baby sitting. is where i first herd it.. bad ass.

  • Love the shot of the woman in the audience at 1:09--she's really digging it.

  • Northern Soul legend! ktf

  • Edwin Starr was born in Nashville, but came to and was raised in Cleveland, Ohio when he was very young. He use to date my sister when he was in high school (East Technical) and sang with a band called the Futuretones. His birth name is Charles Hatcher. He has a sister (Patty) who still lives in Cleveland, a brother name Terry and another (the baby sibling) Angelo who played in his brother's band.

  • Hi BK - many thanks for your memories - my wife and I still love this man. Blessings to you. Steve.

  • I'm dancing in my chair! This dude rocks!

  • Edwin sounds great man...i miss you and your sound...

  • when and how did he die? btw, he will never die - Ed You're A Starrrr For Real!

  • he had a heart attack, around 2003 0r 2002 around that time he was ma brothers grandfather i went to his funeral he was a great man i love him so much

  • i guess the whole world loves him. years ago i heard "War" somewhere and his songs dwell inside my soul since then.

    hugs from naples

  • i'm no expert on Northern Soul but he was from Nashville. i love this song nevertheless!

  • He was indeed but latterly he lived near Tamworth in Staffordshire, England. He was continually popular over here, particularly amongst the Northern Soul fraternity. The Northern denotes the North of England. I saw him interviewed on local TV not long before his death (he was still performing) and he seemed like a really good guy. RIP.

  • I worked as a lighting tech on a few of his gigs, cliche but he was such a tremendous niceguy and when he sang his version of 'higher and higher' we just exploded with sunshine and we were professional jaded switch and fader twiddling zombies. Best gig I ever heard. RIP Ed

  • One of the best singers ever!

  • Solid SOUL! RIP-Edwin Starr..........thanks for your songs!

  • Sadly Edwin passed shortly after this PBS show. He was so awesome, I really miss this great man. RIP Mr. Starr.

    Oooooh wooo good song though.

  • I agree , Benny Benjamin who was the drummer on so many of the Motown studio recordings had a very unique style that can't be copied by anyone . He had the beat !

  • Great version, thanks for postin' it!!

  • God has a genuine superstar in Edwin, a "rock and roll heaven" headliner! We miss you, Edwin! Your music lives on forever......

  • this is from the dvd edwin starr and the team filmed in 2003 in stuttgart.. saw him many times at butlins with his 17 piece backing band and always use to say to the missus bet its a bugger when he sings in the bath.. if anyone gets that joke can they please explain it to here

  • Edwin Starr is tied w/ Reo Speedwagon led by Kevin Cronin as greatest bands ever.

    Thanks for great video:)

  • I agree with you on Edwin Starr. He's incredible. I'm not sure about Reo Speedwagon. Hits? plenty. But long lasting quality? Don't know. I guess time will tell. Prefer Little Feat, Ambrosia..........

  • The joke is that when he sings in the bath, his backup band would be in there too... 18 people and instruments in one shower?

  • Question, Does anyone ever place the dates on these videos? WHAT WAS THE YEAR?!!!! WHERE DID THIS TAKE PLACE?!!!! FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD!!! When I a child I played this song to death! Drove my parents crazy. lol
