In the Georgian initial attack they killed Russian peacekeepers. Attacking a peacekeeping force while bombing a defenseless city is not the way to avoid wars. Georgia attacked South Ossetia which has many citizens with Russian passports and has full Russian citizens. Russia has every right to defend its people from being killed.

In the case of Kosovo, the situation was different because the Serbian government had violated the rights of the minority there. Intense discrimination by the state over a long period of time is grounds for secession. The Serbs had a policy of apartheid & killed a lot of Albanians in Kosovo. In Georgia, there was no massive violation of minority rights and therefore no legal basis for secession.
What about the atrocities committed by the Muslim terrorists of the KLA (Kosovo liberation army) and the number of Orthodox temples being burned. What about the 12 44 resolution of the UN the states that Kosovo is part of Serbia. Serbia is a member of the UN she had entered UN with territory including Kosovo. In the Georgian initial attack they killed Russian peacekeepers. Attacking a peacekeeping force while bombing a defenseless city is not the way to avoid wars. Georgia attacked South Ossetia which has many citizens with Russian passports and has full Russian citizens. Russia has every right to defend its people from being killed.

In 9th century BC Abkhazia became part of Kolkhi (modern georgia). From 7-9 centuries it was conqered by Byzantine empire, but very soon in 1001 year Bagrat III became king of unified georgia. Since than Abkhazia has always been within Georgian borders. 75% of the whole population there were Georgians, after Russians made genocide of geos their in 1992-1993 their was not left any Georgian.

ViktorW19, there is no double standard. Kosovo and S.Ossetia are two totally different cases! In the case of Kosovo, the situation was different because the Serbian government had violated the rights of the minority there. Intense discrimination by the state over a long period of time is grounds for secession. The Serbs had a policy of apartheid & killed a lot of Albanians in Kosovo. In Georgia, there was no massive violation of minority rights and therefore no legal basis for secession.

I can see Bush making a statement soon like: Russia, abandon within 72 hours both separatist territories and Georgia or we will be forced to declare war on you.
Then when war is about to start: Nato will not use weapons of mass destruction in order to liberate the Russian and Georgian people. However, if as small as a single bullet is fired at the US, we will end this war IMMEDIATELY!

I know that Holywood says that in WW2 a single individual or a small group of individuals ran through cross-fire and killed all the bad-guys while doing backflips and sparing every civilian, whom will later thank the Americans for "saving them". The reason why Russia attacked Georgia is a protection of it's citizens in S.O., you might not know that 90% of S.O. was russian citizens.
Yes you are right when says that Texas may declare independence, but for whom and where they will be needed then if around them will be USA, at least USA just conquer them back at all.
Or for example what will be with Luxemburg or Switzerland when they try to leave from NATO.

Agreeing to anything means Russia continuing to recognise the regime in Tbilisi.
Russia should not pull out any troops until all of the mass graves and other evidence of war crimes committed by Tbilisi has been collected.
It's a process that should take years, even decades.
As for the size of the buffer zone, it's very clear that the last one was not nearly sufficient to protect citizens of South Ossetia nor Abkhazia, which was partially occupied by Georgian troops.
