  • You folks wouldn't happen to be the ones behind the famous "Thunderkids" series?

  • @bryanttillman Yes indeed. Is it famous?

  • dont you think sometimes the flipper activates too early???

  • was wondering how you do the replays

  • @mrobotwars I Edit with Adobe Premiere.

  • the commentator doesn't seem that enthusiastic about it all does he?

  • @maniacmarcus1 He's just playing it cool.

    still really good

  • so cool ive got the link

  • @spagbolhead Part 10 contains a link at the end to download your own paper bots. I assume this is the link you mean - have fun!

  • @Calvertfilm I've got the paper ones and they are awesome! I've made my own arena as well and have bought the micro cars from ebay! It's great! Cheers!

  • @iMacG4Guy Excellent - that's great to hear. All you need to do now is film a series?

  • @Calvertfilm Yes I am! It is called "Wars of the Minibots" and I am planning to film it soon!

  • @iMacG4Guy Excellent!

  • can u make a tutorial on how u made ur robots, cos im realy good with romote comtrol stuff and this would be cool :)

  • @costimb1 Watch part 10 of this series of 10. You'll see the bodies are paper and are stuck to tiny radio control micro cars. There is a link in the video to my web page with the paper cut-outs to download.

  • Amazing, your the guys that own lighting that one awesome robot

  • @xiFuse Thanks!

  • you have an amazing creativity this is the best robot wars reactment ive ever seeen this is so cool

  • @nooloo3000 Thanks mate.

  • what do you use for the actual robot concealled under the paper

  • @lampini We use micro radio control cars. You can search for the 'Making of Mini Wars'

  • wow, i'm impressed. Good job. Check out my series ;)

  • How do you activate Flipper and Pit?

  • Part 10 of this series shows you how we do it - in action.

The flipper is hand operated from underneath.

For the pit we stop filming, lower the pit by hand and film it, then start again. It is easy that way. We did it this way because we were making a film, so didn't need a continuous fight but we are thinking of making it mechanical with a lever arm.

  • It would be funny to see the real lightning filp the paper one to see how far it would fly.

  • this would have been a greta fight in the real series!

brilliant arena, particularly loving the roboteers lol

  • hi do you want to use my robot wars battle music for this?

  • Possibly. Do you own the copyright? If so, email me and I'll send you my regular email address to mail it to me. Then if we do other fights it may turn up on them!

  • Actually, Headbanger142's talking about the fleaweights, A.K.A. fairyweights, which are the 150g robots.

  • Are you going to do the rest of the series?

  • We have 8 robots and 7 fights (plus a bonus fight) in this series.

Jon is planning something very different for our next series, which we may shoot this week.

We may go back to this format for another 8 robot series. We haven't used Firestorm, or Thunder paper robots yet.

  • That was amazing. Who came up with this idea?

  • Thanks.

Me and the kids. I made a paper model of Lightning a few years ago since I had measured the real machine for a 1/10th scale resin model that was being made. Then I realised I could motorise it on a micro car. Then I made a few others and the kids used to fight with them on the kitchen floor.

Then we all decided to make a scale arena.

Recently the kids have seen RW series on YouTube and want to make a few similar things. We've all had a few ideas, and this is our first series.

  • Are you the driver of Lightning?

  • Yes.

  • Cool! Is Lightning still fighting or is it retired?

  • Retired but it still is fully working. Might need new batteries though.

  • Aw darn, I would like to see it in battle.

  • You can watch the RW videos on YouTube! Search 'Calvertfilm Lightning'

  • I was hoping I would see it in Robogames in San Francisco, Typhoon 2 & Storm 2 entered. I got to see Storm 2.

  • Storm 2 is a powerful machine. Not doing so well over here this year though in live events. Barbaric Response is winning at the moment.

    I've never seen Typhoon 2.

  • Typhoon 2 is the champion of Robot Wars series 7, he & Storm 2 fought in the Grand Final & Typhoon 2 won by at least 1 point on damage. He entered Robogames & took 2nd place. Storm 2 on the other hand didn't do so well.

  • Oh I thought that was just Typhoon. What was Typhoon 1 then? What series was that in? I don't even remember that!

  • It didn't fight in Robot Wars. It fought in other tournaments.

  • It's a shame Lightning's made of paper and not metal. It could have made a nice Fairyweight!

  • Do you mean featherweight?

  • No Fairyweights. They're the 250 gram class.

  • fairyweight is a american weightclass around antweight (american again, we have them too but ours are 150g rather than 450g of theirs)

  • These robots are weighing around 25 grams at the moment, so I could make a new robot in a heavier class.
