It's not that big of a deal, the family overreacts. I'm with Ruthie - it shouldn't be. I didn't want to get my period and I got it at 10 I was unhappy about it and certainly didn't celebrate.
I remember being totally freaked out by that ending. Nobody really knew what had happened or anything. I was thinking that someone, one of the regular cast members, probably died in a car accident or something. So scary to watch, and then to have to wait an entire summer to see what happened... I thought I'd go mad.
The whole "congratulations" is embarrassing enough just to watch it. It was hard enough just telling my mom. So embarrassing. I'm glad she didn't tell anybody.
that's so embarrassing. I would never want my brothers and my dad to know I started my period!!and I hate how they all congratulate her, it's not fun or exciting, it's annoying!!
my mom bought me earrings when i started my period and wrote me a card. it was subtle, yet enough to let me know it was a big milestone. poor ruthie got a bloddy welcoming committee (pun intended)
I love the awkwardness and weirdness and the fact Ruthie is the only one that sees how awkward and weird they are :L "I don't want a traditional Camden celebration dinner followed by dad buying me feminine products." :L
it's not any father's business if his daughter bleeds between her legs. I think it's pretty disgusting how ruthie is being treated. why is it something to be so excited about? why is it something to congratulate? a period is an annoyance, not something to get all excited about. "becoming a woman" is a misuse of the phrase....to become a woman is to develop a mature attitude about the world - NOT have a period.
Okay so if i was in that big of a family, i wouldnt want my brothers or anyone but my mom to know! That is just embarrising! And if my brothers found out from my mom i wouldnt be able to talk to them for atleast a week!
@alpur214 Yes it is sometimes exaggerated and not very realistic. It is a fiction and real life is not always like this series for period but also for beautiful men and ladies.THey all look like models!so fake! The world isn't just populated with models, and the streets neither.WHy do they always choose perfect actors, perfectly beautiful men and women and children?I guess it is not realistic in true life in AMerica.AMerican people are not all that perfect. They are just like in France where in live.
@DancerLuvXox i agree--im from a big, Italian family, 3 brothers, and believe me, nobody ever said the word period, never mind congratulate someone for getting it..how freakin awkward of a conversation would THAT be? and, at that age for a girl, that would be like a punishment. NO, thank you! lol

They congratulated me too when I got my first period, but I thought it was sooo embarressing! I'm never going to do that when I have a kid later.
One more thing: I don't have sound on this video, am I the only one?
