this was kimi's fault he flat spotted the tyre but still he should of won the championship that year even just for the suzuka drive he did and the pass at the end

Alosnso was already going faster and pushing him, Kimi made a big mistake and then had a huge front wheel lock up wich damaged his tire and it broke his suspension, Kimi is the best at breaking his equipment
one of the season's turning points, a win here could've won the title for him (obviously not at this event, but an extra 2 points over alonso instead of dropping 10.)
There's a difference in beating someone who can't adapt to their car, to beating someone who's at absolute confidence in his car. Besides, beating someone in the championship is not the same as proving your worth. There's alot of other qualities in drivers. Take Button as an example - brilliant driver, much better than lot of the midfielder's, but is still behind them all the time. Button's fault? I don't think so.
Kimi could have won 2 driver's championship with McLaren if not for realibility issues. And compare the way Kimi won the championship on 2007 and the way Hamilton won it on 2008. He almost lost it during the final lap and he was driving conservatively that is not the way of true champion.
2003? Michelin was using illegal tires, so I wouldn't say he would've won, not fairly anyway. And besides, his mistakes in Spain and Canada were what really cost him the title.
2005, he made a mistake in qualifying in Bahrain which he could've won. At the Nurburgring as seen in this video, he flat spotted his tires which causd his suspension to fail. In Monza he spun out, he could've got a podium at least and in Brazil another qualifying mistake.
I criticized the way he drove the last race of 2008. He almost lost that race by not sticking to his real drving style, he played safe, good thing he caught up with timo glock on the last turn. That is why i believe that hamilton does not have the heart of a champion.
Remember 2007 China? He could've played it conservatively but he drove to win, which helped kill his tires which then led him into the gravel trap. He lost the title the next race.
You got it all wrong. In the GP on china it was their strategy that cost him he did not change his tire on his first pit stop they just added fuel to his car. It just shows that lewis driving style is not smooth.
Yes, it's 2009, but that doesn't change that he was awesome in that race. To even dare try making those overtakings takes alot of balls, ice and steel. Hamilton might have these things, but he hasn't proven to me that he is in league with Hamilton.
And I never said Raikkonen won anything or had consistency in the last season. I just stated that he is fast on wet tracks ergo good at driving in those conditions.
if by the best you mean, not very good in the wet or damp, not the youngest world champion, nor the current world champion, nor the most succsessful rookie, then u have a deal!
Jenson was so lucky not to get takin out in that crash, but unlucky to not have a team for 09 dam.
Thats an awesome response, could you tell me who the most successful rookie in F1 history is? Next tell me who the youngest an current world champions is, and no it wasnt just because glock lost out on the last corner of the last lap of the last gp of the season, i MEAN WHAT an END to a season, you couldnt write that in a movie, the silverstone race in the wet were he out classed em all, the spa wet race, an many of the other races he was the best driver, all the poles to! there's more to come!
Oh and btw - at Silverstone, watch who had the fastest lap. That's right. Raikkonen. At Monza as well. Raikkonen's great in the wet or damp for that matter. The fact is that Raikkonen is better than anyone when he is at his best. He's disappointing sometimes, but all drivers are.
yes i like Raikkonen always have an will and yes he ia a brilliant driver, but a fastest lap here and there wont, dont, and never will win you a championship! winning races, working hard, and consistency win's championships thats how come hamilton is the youngest world champion and best rookie ever in the history of the sport.
oh an he didnt win either of those races so those fastest laps meant, NOTHING AT ALL... just like ned flanders, damn sexy flanders...
oi, muppet alonso an hamilton were in the exact same car, except that hamilton was driving an f1 car for the first ever time, alonso was already a double champion, Hamilton beat him as a rookie when they both drove the same car... wtf are you on about son shine....
Hamilton is a sublime talent and is destined to win more championships. The fact that he won more races, finished on the podium more times and scored more points than any other current F1 driver in the past two seasons proves this.
now that, that is how you become the youngest world champion, fast lap means nothing!
that was just to rub it in again, now, NOW you can be silent!
Raikkonen è un grande...ha avuto tanto sangue freddo a correre in quelle condizioni...in questa gara meritava di vincere....però direi ke si è tolto qualke sassolino dalla scarpa vincendo il mondiale con la ferrari...mitico!!!
Raikkonen's a pretty awsome F1 driver & he deserved that championship with Ferrari.Fernando Alonso is the most exciting driver out there though, wish he had a front of the pack car.He should be in a Williams.
and in 2005 nurburgring again villeneuve did not get out of the way in a similar situation (villeneuve was a lap behind kimi) and force kimi to run wide on the first corner and here kimi hit the kerbs and the suspension was broken. but also the fault belong to kimi as well. but it`s better that way. no tactics result great races for us the viewers
in 2003 monaco gp, after montoya made a pitstop from p1, he have a 0.500 sec advantage ahead of kimi. Kimi remain on circuit 3 or 4 laps. In these laps kimi break the circuit record with 1 14 545. Kimi on low fuel make record laps and montoya with the tank full make 1 15 500 and 1 15 800. So in the last moment when kimi goes to the pits villeneuve who was a lap behind never get out of the way. Kimi lost precious time. the pit for kimi was normal.
Mae mia, a Kimi siempre le ha acompañado esa mala suerte y esa mala fama del "rompecoches". Pero bueno, fallos como este hicieron que Alonso pudiese ganar el mundial :)

I really hope you have something to prove your point with, as it seems like Alonso will not be any close to winning his third title in 2008, while Kimi has a very good chance to get his second-in-a-row, which would put those two guys in the same category. The reason Kimi Räikkönen didn't win a world championship title earlier was the unreliability of his car, not the driver, whereas Alonso won both of his championships with a superior car, especially when it comes to reliability as well.
alonso is a nasty piece of shit! Kimi to win again.. alonso is one of the crappest losers ive ever seen.. shold have been chucked out last season..wanker!
exactly.. it is a shame someone so young can be so bitter and twisted! constantly seems to moan.. not dealing to well without traction control is he? says it all... lol
Kimi had more than his share of bad luck throughout his carear. I just can't understand how he stays calm after all that's happening to him. He lost thetitle on this race, he was aware of that and he still kept his cool. No wonder he is called the Iceman. GO KIMI!!!!
Kimi's front suspension failure was very similiar to Ralph Firman's accident at Brazil 2003. That was also front right suspension that broke. But back then the driver in front was not as lucky as Jenson. Panis had to retire, too, after the wreck of Firman's Jordan hit him.
could someone explain what the hell happend?! I'v been thinking that ever since i saw this from tv. His front tyre just exploded and i didn't see anything hitting it.
The FIA, in the middle of the season, had a rule limiting tire changing - i think there could be not tire changes in the race. That accident made the FIA withdraw it.
well alonso is arrogant ******* if you ask me...yes he is a good driver but he won his championships with pure luck..or should i say with Kimi's bad luck
Well then, I guess Kimi is pretty damn lucky too. If it weren't for Hamilton's dumb ass losing 20 points in the last few races then Kimi wouldn't have won the championship either. I'm no Hamilton supporter by any means, but I wouldn't say that Alonso won his two championships by pure luck.
Hamilton's head hold one's own. He made two stupid mistakes. First: China. He drove so much that the tyres won't work and drives to sand. Second: Brazil. He tries to pass Alonso but does a drive failure. Then he press wrong button and loses gears. And that's why Kimi won champion. He believed it all the time. He can close his mind.
I think the Season 2008 is a fight with Kimi vs Hamilton. Maybe Alonso but I dont think that the Reanult is so good to fight all Season for Championship. And the McLaren is only 2 Years good. 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008?
Kimi should have 3 championships by now. Lots of wins, but shitty luck. I hope he achieves more championships with Ferrari. He deserves it. The best driver in F1.
The people think that Alonso is the best but that is not right. Kimi is better but Alonso had a lot of more luck than Kimi. And I hope that Kimi wins a lot of Races and Championships with Ferrari.
Kimi´s personality is what makes some, not all people, think that Alonso is the best. Alonso is controversial, that makes media focus on him. I think they are both great, but i prefer kimi´s driving style, he´s a natural. I, as millions of people, think Kimi is the best.
He had needs 3 Points to the Title and hes car was out 4 times. He had 4 times failt the piont and normaly he wins the title. 1 time he was in front wo his car engine was chrashed.
lucky he didn't take another driver with him (57sec point).
kimi definetly derseved the championship thi8sn year. runner up tiwce before and all. and good on hamilton too. rookie year and all leading the drivers point and everything from rd 3 until brazil.
i wnet crazy when this happenend! i ran around the house celebrating! i was on the edge of my seat when alonso was catching! kimis fault for locking up all the time. but wow i went mental
I think Hakinnen had even worse luck. He was getting outpaced by schumacher throughout the year and needed to win desperately to keep a check on schumi. Led the race from start to finish and just before the last corner on the last lap, his engine blew!. I think it was spain. He took a break after that year and never came back!
I thought this race mucked him up for this year as well...stupid technical failure when he could have easily finished 3rd of higher. In 2003, he had an engine failure while leading by like 30 seconds...2005, this shit. Feel this race was pivotal in denying him those WDCs. But he defied the odds this time to become what should have been his back in 2003. Here's to complete domination by the Iceman in 2008 and WINNING at this cursed shithole finally.
As adj0408 points out, this was the most ridiculous rule in the history of F1.

You mean someone who failed to adapt to their car?
In the case of the 2008 championship between Ferrari and McLaren, how is beating the other in the championship not considered proving your worth?
Qualities such as adapting to the machinery you're given, work ethics, communication, car development, driver feedback etc etc.
Button? I don't know how good he is. All I know is that an aging Barrichello beat him last year.

The reason Kimi Räikkönen didn't win a world championship title earlier was the unreliability of his car, not the driver, whereas Alonso won both of his championships with a superior car, especially when it comes to reliability as well.

Kimi had more than his share of bad luck throughout his carear. I just can't understand how he stays calm after all that's happening to him. He lost thetitle on this race, he was aware of that and he still kept his cool. No wonder he is called the Iceman. GO KIMI!!!!

he wrecks to much

Kimmi is the most underrated driver in F1. Due to bad luck he has won only 1 championship title. He could have won three in my opinion.

Kimi's front suspension failure was very similiar to Ralph Firman's accident at Brazil 2003. That was also front right suspension that broke. But back then the driver in front was not as lucky as Jenson. Panis had to retire, too, after the wreck of Firman's Jordan hit him.
Pirkinmaa 4 years ago
his trye didn't explode his suspension did, the suspension was gettin shaken violently from the tyre wearing until it just shattered
xyztomcxyz 4 years ago
could someone explain what the hell happend?! I'v been thinking that ever since i saw this from tv. His front tyre just exploded and i didn't see anything hitting it.
jpogfani 4 years ago
The FIA, in the middle of the season, had a rule limiting tire changing - i think there could be not tire changes in the race. That accident made the FIA withdraw it.

GASKART 4 years ago 2
well alonso is arrogant ******* if you ask me...yes he is a good driver but he won his championships with pure luck..or should i say with Kimi's bad luck
HOPE117 4 years ago 4
Well then, I guess Kimi is pretty damn lucky too. If it weren't for Hamilton's dumb ass losing 20 points in the last few races then Kimi wouldn't have won the championship either. I'm no Hamilton supporter by any means, but I wouldn't say that Alonso won his two championships by pure luck.
PIGH8TER 4 years ago
Hamilton's head hold one's own. He made two stupid mistakes. First: China. He drove so much that the tyres won't work and drives to sand. Second: Brazil. He tries to pass Alonso but does a drive failure. Then he press wrong button and loses gears. And that's why Kimi won champion. He believed it all the time. He can close his mind.

far out how close was he to hittin the other bloke!!

I think the Season 2008 is a fight with Kimi vs Hamilton. Maybe Alonso but I dont think that the Reanult is so good to fight all Season for Championship. And the McLaren is only 2 Years good. 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008?
gfhriofndh 4 years ago
Kimi should have 3 championships by now. Lots of wins, but shitty luck. I hope he achieves more championships with Ferrari. He deserves it. The best driver in F1.
laloservin 4 years ago 6
The people think that Alonso is the best but that is not right. Kimi is better but Alonso had a lot of more luck than Kimi. And I hope that Kimi wins a lot of Races and Championships with Ferrari.
gfhriofndh 4 years ago 2
Kimi´s personality is what makes some, not all people, think that Alonso is the best. Alonso is controversial, that makes media focus on him. I think they are both great, but i prefer kimi´s driving style, he´s a natural. I, as millions of people, think Kimi is the best.
laloservin 4 years ago 2
Kimi is the best!!!! And today we see all his new Ferrari with the 1 on his car.
:)

For me is Kimi the real Champion of 2003 too.
He had needs 3 Points to the Title and hes car was out 4 times. He had 4 times failt the piont and normaly he wins the title. 1 time he was in front wo his car engine was chrashed.

I think Hakinnen had even worse luck. He was getting outpaced by schumacher throughout the year and needed to win desperately to keep a check on schumi. Led the race from start to finish and just before the last corner on the last lap, his engine blew!. I think it was spain. He took a break after that year and never came back!

xVitrubiox 4 years ago
I thought this race mucked him up for this year as well...stupid technical failure when he could have easily finished 3rd of higher. In 2003, he had an engine failure while leading by like 30 seconds...2005, this shit. Feel this race was pivotal in denying him those WDCs. But he defied the odds this time to become what should have been his back in 2003. Here's to complete domination by the Iceman in 2008 and WINNING at this cursed shithole finally.

Germany isn't the best place for Kimi:
2003: Crash
2004: Crash
2005: This
2006: Technical failure
2007: Technical failure
Poor Kimi :(
