You say: "everything the good Lord gave them"; but it was actually natural selection that equipped them with the ability to fight off salmonella and other potentially deadly microbes on raw meat.
Punxuatpney: You can get clean meat (organi) from a local butcher, farmer or store for under $1.00 per pound. We figured it out and to feed our three it is LESS expensive than that garbage kibble. If you know someone who hunts or fishes.... it could be free. There are no substitutions for the real thing! In the long run, no vet bill make it all really worth while!! Do some searching and you will find your resources!
Also, a question for GotGoldens: Meat can be expensive, is there any cheaper food that you would recommend for those who cannot afford to feed their dog meat?
Gotgoldens, dont talk such utter nonsense, yeah what you say about wolf puppies in the wild is natural but these are not wolf puppies they are puppies reared for pets in homes where children will be present,i have watched numerous clips of other Goldens on here and all are what you expect Goldens to be,and i know what im talking about where these dogs are concerned as i have had two in the past & will shortly be getting a third.
Well, it is a good thing that you never observe wolf pups in the wild - for if you did, you would faint from your inability to comprehend nature. It is also a shame that you are so unaware of the very basics of nature and that this behavior is so important it is in establishing a natural heirachy in the pack animal world. It is totally the responsibility of the new owner to establish the heirachy within their home, as at 7 weeks old, these pups are just learning!
Having watched this video has left me totally shocked.I had a Golden Retriever for 13 years and never once heard this dog so much as growl,he was what a Golden should be " A big placid loveable giant" but for the sight of these puppies snarling, growling & biting each other has totally shocked me & the fact the owner is encouraging it.All i can say is i wish the unfortunate new owners of these puppies the best of luck as after what i have witnessed they will need it !!!!
Thanks for sharing what you've learned and for being so sweet to the ignorant "amberfaithchloe"; maybe "afc" has some tips on how to train a 7 week old puppy to act around raw meat and its littermates; maybe we should just euthanize it. Another know-it-all with no answers, just criticisms.
It's so great to see pups/dogs exhibiting completely normal pack behaviour AND eating raw food! Chewing on those raw meaty bones is giving them a huge head start over other dogs that are being fed kibble! Love it, and thanks for posting!
@MrPoolee I just hope they're not eating the whole bones--chewing is one thing, but if they actually consume the bones it's not so good for them. Once, my mom made the mistake of giving our dog a lamb bone to chew on unsupervised, and she chewed it all up, consumed it all, and she got so sick!
@punxsutawneyphyllis Dogs tend to gulp their food in large chucks, so it's important that a single bone (like in a lamb chop or so) is not small enough to be swallowed whole. A chicken carcass, on the other hand is fine, as they will need to chew off portions of the carcass, and in the process will break the bones into smaller pieces.
Some bones are no good for dogs to chew on, like femur bones from a cow, because they are so strong, that a dog will more likely break a tooth or two.
@MrPoolee Okay, I just asked my mom about that particular incident, and the problem was not that it was a bone, but that it was a cooked bone--a raw one would have been fine, but the one our dog had was left over from when we'd had lamb for dinner, so obviously it was cooked. Apparently cooking makes the bones brittle and prone to breaking into sharp pieces, and therefore dangerous for a dog or human to eat. But since these puppies are eating raw meat, they're certainly safe! :)
@ AmberFaithCloe as GotGoldens said,it is very natural for any puppie in a litter to become assertive while eating together. We have had german rottweilers and have bred for well over 5 years now and the puppies almost always fight when they are eating close to each other. We recently feed our 7 week old pups raw deer meat or chicken and they end up looking like little fat pigs after they're done eating that tasty meat.We also feed them commercial puppy food. You have to vary their diet..
@GotGoldens Sure, but this is not something we should see in a Golden Retriever. Warning the other litter mates by growling is fine but that one is really biting & it's biting real hard. This is not a very stable temperament IMO.
@AmberFaithChloe Well, like it or not, this is what they need to do to learn. It is a valuable skill that is gained between the 7th and 8th week of age. Puppies that are taken from the litter before this age still go through this stage, but they will do it with humans. It is a necessary part of the developmental hierarchy skills and where they learn bite inhibition. Puppies have to go through this stage to be healthy! :)
@AmberFaithChloe I know right! I've never seen Golden puppies be this aggressive. Babies and dogs will growl and bite but these puppies sound killer and it's horrible considering these are goldens. I HOPE you guys showed the people who got these dogs this video because people think their getting sweet and docile goldens like people think the breed is but I hope they saw this if they have kids. Puppies growl and play together but I wouldn't trust these puppies around kids.
@AmberFaithChloe It's as if the raw food is bringing out the down the line wolf genetic tendencies. I wouldn't buy a puppy that's been this aggressive.
Puppy play with siblings is one thing but these puppies are acting beyond that. I hope no one with small kids got the ones growling like that.
you r lucky bcz you ll go to heaven i guarantee that
for taking carry of these angels :)
thanks for post its really make me so happy when i watch these cute creatures :D

You are clearly un-educated about the fact that all domestic dogs have 98-99% EXACTLY the same DNA as a wolf does. Check your facts, my friend.

@punxsutawneyphyllis Indeed, cooked bones are extremely dangerous - for cats AND dogs.

OMG !
What a dominant dog !
I understand that they have to be dominant, but NOT that dominant !
The owner should b the most dominant, and correct that dog....!
But i agree that they should eat raw food :D

Puppies in a litter, practicing their dominance skills, is completely natural and is part of their essential developmental process.

A 7 week old Golden Retriever puppy showing such aggression is NOT good.
