I went into a shoe store some time ago and asked the teen who worked there what his dream shoe was. I then asked him to put them on and let me see them on his feet. He did. I then asked if he would let me have his old shoe,, they werre actually rather new, and I would buy him the sneakers he had on. He said sure so he took them off and put them in the box for me to take to the register while I wore his old shoes to the front of the store. I paid the cashier and he put them on and went back in!

That means that you had to get the new pair of shoes to him somehow. How did you do this or did you put your old pair of shoes in the new shoe box and let the clerk wear the new pair. I would love to try this and so would like to know what you did so I can do it.
