  • abo ppl need to get ova themselves it happened ages ago, you cant change the past, stop whining

  • lol

  • Comment removed

  • And please, put up the lyrics so us teachers can use it in classrooms! thanks

  • Racist asshole.

  • hey Mouldy how about posting the rest of this album bro

  • Anyways, I think he'll be dead soon. black mans liver can't handle the piss, ya know

  • Whaeves, Kevs. We stole it fair and square. Try and get back boy, go on I dare you!

  • Unc Kev is our living legend of blackfella music and hopefully get acknowledgemnt from Australia one day as a true orator of australian culture. He is my hero as a goori from biripai & dhungutti nations ( nsw)

  • Dylan sold his soul to satan (wagyyll) . I reckon Big kev's done the same. People that go around stealing only have a deficiency within themselves. A direct transgression of the creators Law of Love, wich is the law of giving rather than satans ( wagylls) way of getting. dat dem der wagylll has the SIN of pride!!

  • I'm currently working on Kev's new website. Seeing the number of requests for chords in these comments alone, I'll see if I can get him to include the basic chords with the song lyrics if that will help... just give us a couple of months and hopefully the new site will be up and running.

  • @TutuFerret Great news about Kev`s new website. I wish you all the best with it.

  • @TutuFerret don't give em the chords, they can work it out for themselves. Like the old days ;)

  • a.r.a

  • Powerful stuff -

  • blck fulla doin Bob Dylan?? koodnt no

  • @walenski2404 Dylan did folk to rock... everlasting progressions. This is not stealing. "Thou shalt not steal".

  • After the take and Pau ad Heini’s backing vocals Heini said “... I have a backing vocal if you want one..”. We said “...OK!”. She went back in the studio and on the 1st take delivered the beautiful wailing you hear in the second half of the song.

Thank you to Frances mahony for her excellent constructive art direction for the cover of the album. And thank you to Paul Hoyne for delivering that art.

    Joe Hayes 1/1/11

  • Paul Burton played double bass, Michael Sachs played the drums, and I played the tambourine (by placing on a chair and hitting it with drum stick). I never realised how hard a tambourine is to play the way we all se if done normally. They had about 3 rehearsals of the song then recorded it.

Paul Burtons partner , Heini (sorry cannot pronounce your full surname), sang with Paul on the backing vocals.

    Joe Hayes 1/1/11

  • Can't remember the chords but next time i see a guitar and pick it up.. the cords will come back immediately.

Thank you to 'wordspeak' for acknowledging my work on Kev's album. Thats the 1st thank you I have received from anyone for this work. Just goes to show how thankless a task helping someone can be.

    Joe Hayes 1/1/11

  • Fantastic song. Heads up for Joe Hayes who produced & put the money up for Kev's first album "Pillars of Society' in 1988. There were 1,000 copies made by him under the name of Rutabagas Records. He a few other believers worked real hard to get it out there.

  • Yes Jesus said supposed to give the oppressed a better deal...

I love the truthfulness of this song :)

  • and there was me thinking john butler had written this... his version is top though!

  • Genius mind combined with a beautiful heart

  • JBT did this last night in Wollongong. It went off, such a good song. :)

  • @rhcprox35 Yeah Boy! was there too! frickin unreal. "Everyone be quiet this is just wood and skin"

  • Wore this tape out in the 80s. Listened to it 20 times a day. Pillars of Society is a truly great piece of Australian music, an extremely important and honest album, from a good bloke.

  • never has bob dylan's influence been more obvious. good song none the less.

  • @shaolinkin and never in Bob Dylan has Woodie Guthrie been less obvious. One does not lessen the other.

  • @shaolinkin And in Bob Dylan, Woodie Guthrie is obvious. None lessens the other.

  • @charlierp True, I'm not one to compare and believe similarity translate to a lack of skill, I was just noting how alike they sound.

  • @Moulytone i can actually get hold on him vai this adress and thanks your a nice guy thanks alot

  • Tabs Or Chords Anyone ??

  • does anybodt have the chords for this song or tabs i am desperate

  • @ZAKEREE Hello. Why don`t you contact Kev via his website. He`s a beautiful man and there`s a good chance you`ll get a reply I recon. I`ve put a link to his website in the info section under the clip.

  • @ZAKEREE > On standard tuning guitar, Cappo on the 2nd. F, C, G, AM (Repeat) :) You can play around with higher chords for the verse. Great tune! Tony

  • @ZAKEREE Chords are as follow: G D A Bminor

(no cappo needed like the other recommendation...)

  • amazing song, does anyone have the john butler version?

  • please tell me whats wrong with kev. I didnt know. First George now.......sad heart

  • This version of Thou Shalt Not Steal was recorded in 1989 with Mixed Relations and was released in 1993 as the B side to the single of Freedom. It is not the original version that appeared on 1988 Pillars Of Society. I produced this version so I know. I was there.

The clip was produced by Paul Fenech for ABC show Blackout.

All the best and keep up the good work, have not seen this clip for years.

  • Thanks for taking the time to give the background on this particular version of this great song.

    Tony

  • you can always pack your bag and go home..........we have to continue to put with shit.....you are not obligated to stay here......SO GO HOME...your home not mine! i am at home!

  • @unidude06 shit mate dont even start.

  • I was in JB ihfi asked for Kev Comody and no-0ne had heard of him, I asked for warrumpi band and colored stone, again they didnt know. I was told to look in "world music" with all the foreign bands. I love this song and am sad to hear about Kevs health.

  • Snap! Same thing happend to me...all I got was a blank face and "have you looked on amazon"......pathetic......maybe they need to play this at primary schools.

  • yeah most Aussies never heard of him and now he is dieing. He is very sick I believe. but then when u must look in the worls music section for Aboriginal bands what can u expect.

  • Awesome! Thx qualqui for share and Thx to moudytone too for posting this video. 5/5

  • Yes he proves to understand what the white mans is talking about with civilised.

Great wordsmith. I get the hypocrisy. I hate it how people never look at their own missgivings when they decide their ideas are so important everyone must follow.

Sorry about the way the world is. You will probably react in silly ways. You should be more concerned about the world we share. It gets hard to ignore after a while. You'll see.

  • yes very deep word....thanks for the share androclestiper

  • Very very powerful music and words. Thanks to my friend bethsheeba7 for the share.

  • Australia should listen more to this guy.

Fabulous song with hard hitting lyrics.

    * * * * *

  • john butler had cover this song =) it´s nice too

  • recently found out about this guy and can't believe i just found out about him. his words are so powerful. reminds of an australian bob dylan.

  • great song 5 stars

  • i fucken love this song uncle kev --- land rights now

  • Kev Carmody- this GREAT Australian, this BRILLIANT song. Strong, true, an utter indictment on past wrongs. Lest we forget every wrong we committed.

  • hahahaha, that's silly :-)

  • Invasion or survival day today, respect to the indigenous owners of this land.

  • Its Australia (INVASION) day tomorrow,,, respect!

  • wow i didn't listen to the song, but I read the lyrics. So true. tear :(

  • Aussie folk song cool and making a statement. Thanks for sharing Jay..Respect and Peace.

  • It sure is mate.... a great aboriginal artist... respect!

  • One of the strongest songs I have heard in my entire life . To write the truth .

  • kev is an aussie hero... love him.

  • we love this video... heather mills doesnt get it.!! lol

  • Oh this makes me feel so guilty for going shoplifting when I was a teenager!!

Is it too late to repent...??

  • No it's not too late.. you can support the wave of an ever growing culture of respect for indigenous people and reconciliation...to repent for your sins as a teenager you should teach your kids not to steal ...teach them to denounce the bullshit policies of the last 200 hundred years... there you go... adopt the true Australian culture....it's time we start a new ...join with the true spiritual custodians of this place ...

  • @wakeupAustralia people are people from every culture.. the issue is the oligarchy not the ordinary man.. the native man in this country is a "latter" day slave.. you should think on that. 40,000 years of freedom and only 200 years of oppression. the ab(from) original sovereignty should be an awakening for all ... don't you think.. freedom for all men no matter what colour? what would mark mc murtie say.. and what is right has always been so.

  • Great tune thanks for sharing.
