Sorry to burst your bubble, maybe this is why in the US alone over 1,000 child drowning deaths in kids per year. EVERY YEAR parents BURY their children who have for one reason or another had their faces in as LITTLE as 2 INCHES of WATER! When the child feels threatened it inhales strongly to cry or escape but, like a straw, their nostrils ingest water which floods their lungs (not their bodies!) and they DROWN! Animals can drown too! :(

He won't drown, people. If he can't breathe he will wake up. If he's in any danger he will move himself away from the source. He isn't in any danger because he can't possibly stay asleep and run out of breath at the same time. If he can't breathe anymore then it is a physiological reaction to wake up and struggle.
