That was such a brilliant perfromance from afairly underrated song. In fact, Richard Wright himself was the most underrated member of the band. He also had a very good singing voice. He sang a lot in the early days, and as much as I love Roger Waters, it's a shame that Richard didn't get to sing as much in the later Floyd years when Roger really started to take control of the band.
you see his swollen eyes? -- death is so unsayably sad, and you see that gilmour is crying his eyes out in this time, he really strains to contain himself
First of all, if you have ever tried to play a clean slide sound on a Telecaster then you can appreciate how difficult it is. Secondly, "he's no slide player"?? I would encourage you to listen to "One of These Days", "Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts 6-9" and "Great Gig in the Sky" to hear how much of a slide player David Gilmour is.
@HeyYouTribute David has long said that he prefers playing the lap steel slide guitar with how the song was structured he couldn't play the lap steel in the performance.
Wright could write a good song (no pun intended). It is a shame he was not more forthwright in producing matriel, he prefered to help the others with their music.
i'm ok with contemporary show mess, ripoff weak rock, pop experimentations, teen silly stuff, "cold electronica", it's there, it's about evolution. some stuff is good, some is not, some it's pure crap... but all goes out of the window compared to this great man and the history of Pink Floyd. no glamour, hullabaloo, hiss: just the comfortable certainity of having those great guys who made eclectical elegant immense music. the rest is just many steps behind.
ehhh... painfull an dreadfull old years... wish giilmour good health.. he's seems very old in this video but as always he put all his power in this song and made everything awesome just for his friend wright now we all do know what real masterpiece is :3
This song was recorded for the first album, before Gilmour joined, but was left off. They put it on the second instead.
According to Gilmour 'Set the Control for the Heart of the Sun' is the only song where both Syd & Gilmour can be heard. Syd had recorded his bits before Dave joined.
Absolutely WONDERFUL ! Thank you for sharing this with us all.
I notice Gilmour neglects to mention that it was Syd and not himself who played on this track for "Saucerful Of Secrets"... but it's great to see him doing this song as a tribute to Rick.

As far as for Poor performace, as people say, He was Mimicking Syd,
So he could not literally be himself, as it was a Wright/Barret song.

Around 4:23 and throughout the entire video you can recodnize the grief thats coursing through Gilmours veins. Tragic loss from my favorite band..

If memory serves me right, when this was released, there were 5 members of Pink Floyd who played on the album. Syd was not in good condition then.
