When gold is "at an all time high" That simply means the dollar is worth less that particular point in time. It takes more dollars to buy the same amount of gold. The value of gold does not change. The dollar does. I am surprised anyone would give any gold in exchange as dollars have no intrinsic value whatsoever.

@bearhamo Gold also has no intrinsic value.  In the war on Serbia/Kosovo, people were not accepting gold as payment for food. There is also an oversupply of gold in the world, compared to what's needed in industry.

I would go for the "black gold" standard" make one dollar = one gallon crude oil. Then require the Gov. to have in the strategic oil reserve at least half of all the money in circulation, and payable by the barrel to anyone upon demand.

Hard to know if the establishment will allow total collapse and chaos first, then bring new currency, or phase in a lesser currency just as the $ slides off. RE: the end of public services, i.e. welfare & projects... that's scary. Millions will abruptly be totally cut off, without food, lights, etc. I believe (sadly) FEMA will be used against these inner city populations.
