It's a plane exhaust against the evening sky. This is identifiable by the dual streams with the point on the end. The reason it looks red is because of the angle o the sunlight refracting around the earths atmosphere - much as the evening sun looks red and not yellow.,

With the angle of the sunlight, it acts like a prism and glows red. Pretty common but still cool to see.

A similar phenomena was observed on 2005 in Susa Valley (Piedmont-Italy) at 11pm. That flame was vertical exactly as you filmed; after 30 mins turned to green, changed shape and disappeared. Thousand of witness but the phenomena was forgotten by newspapers. Absolutely was not an airplain, meteor or nothing known.

Seriously, this is a well-known phenomenon. Orange contrails. Contrails of high flying planes hit by orange sunlight of dusk or dawn.

Yes, technically this is shot at night since the sun is below the horizon, but it is only JUST below the horizon (look at the color of the sky), so the sunlight can (and does) still hit objects at high altitudes.

thats what i call a 747-400 breaking the atmosphere. the engines are cfm models turbo fan and the moisture of the air mith the misture of the exhaust makes it able to look like a meteor if you c there is 4 lines 2 engines per wing this aircraft is actually flying around 40,000 ft + thats why the reason the lines look like a meteor

What you see behind planes are indeed called vapor trails, or contrails (condensation trails - condensed water vapor). And they are typically white in daylight. As are clouds (also condensed water vapor).

But just as clouds can be colored by sunsets and sunrises, so too can contrails. - And that is what we see in this video:

A perfectly normal contrail lit by the perfectly normal orange sunlight of dusk or dawn.

Not an uncommon phenomenon.

Its not a contrail because there is not a change in apparent width due to distance. You know when something far away looks smaller than when it is up close. This is just a straightt line, the same thickness the whole length. It looks like its going towards the ground.

You don't seem to realize that contrails only increase in width over time if the atmospheric conditions allow it.

Most of the time they do, but this type of contrail is not abnormal at all.

And it looks like it's going towards the ground because of perspective. Things above you, heading straight away from you, will look like they're heading downwards.

This is clearly a two-engine contrail (with each individual engine trail visible just after the plane) lit up by the orange light of sunset.

I filmed something similar in Perth,check out "contrail perth" but it was in the middle of the day and the trail was white,so it's most likely the contrails from a high flying aircraft or depending on where you live etc it could also be the space shuttle re entering the earth's atmosphere and you're looking at the heat trail coming from it
