Straight piping a gas engine is the most typical douche bag accessory to a truck. Just put on an exhaust that makes it purr and leave the truck alone. Also, you paint a red flag driving down the street for cops. Check with the local laws for sound ordinance before driving, might get a nice ticket to go with your shitty exhaust
@gohomeimigrants Not to mention shit performance. Engine need some back pressure. If you eliminate it completely by straight piping, your performance goes down.
Yeah thats common sense. Taking the catalytic converter off will make a huge difference in performance and sound. First of all, there is no suppression from anything. The purpose of an exhaust system is to keep a certain amount of back pressure needed to run. If you dont have anything limiting the exhaust flow, you arent going to get the best performance. Leave the cats on and take off the muffler if you really want to.
@gohomeimigrants You couldn't be more wrong in all aspects, but reading your username, you're blind to the fact and will be blind to the facts that aren't backing up your claim.
@Honkystepp no it did not mess anything up performance wise but the check engine light was on. honestly there is no reason to take off your cat. it dont change the sound really. i tried. just mufflers made it louder than hell.
mine havent gone off and i havent had cats on for 2 years...and my brother owned it before i did so its been about 10 years...they just welded the sensors back in and its like nothin happend
@alanmorgan1986 If you hack off your cats and run straights then it does make it louder. I had mine like that for a while but got new cats. But if you don't put the O2 sensor back after hackin off your cats you get shit gas mileage that's why i got new ones.
@alanmorgan1986 so are you trying to say that when i cut off my cat on my dohc saturn it shouldn't have made it louder? is that why it actually was louder? your an idiot dude. cats have screens inside of them which will slow the flow and muffle the db's by quite a bit.
thanks. it looks alot different now. it got the entire front end caved in. but all primered waiting to get the paint done. but i will check out yours also.
EGEPTIANSTYle, i got my truck with no exhaust and have ran it without a cat for 50k miles. it runs great and gets 17-18 highway. as long as the ram is a 94-95 you wont have any problem at all running it without a cat. the 96 was an obdII system that had a post cat o2 sensors but the previous ones did not so there is now way it could scre up the air fuel ratio
@alanmorgan1986 first of all the truck looks ALL too familiar to me, and while I see you have Wyoming Plates, i thought it was a "1" or "2" county plate. sorry man, just trying to get my mind around the curiosity.
@alanmorgan1986 it's too bad that happened man, the best part of vehicles is the owner, obviously you care enough about it to fix it man, glad to see your not like 85% of the people I know, taking a fixable vehicle to the junker just because they can't see past how well it's serviced them, part of my work is buying vehicles destined for the junkers and refurbishing them to roadworthy status again.
@KingOfTheClutch yea it is to bad. i loved the way it looked but o well right. it is all primered so i am hoping to get it painted this summer. not sure on the color but ya. check out my new stereo. it hits damn hard.
turn the key. haha but for real. it will run with out them fine just louderbut do put on mufflers just something for back pressure or you can float a valve. just like a cherry bomb or glass pack nothing real expensive.
Float a valve? Valve float is due to extreemely high RPM's. These motors are lucky to hit 5K RPM. Having no back pressure has nothing to do with valve float.
I am thinking of doing this to my 01 Dodge. Im tired of my Flowmaster...
dont gut ur cat...i fucks up the Air/fuel ratio and it can make it miss out, rpms jump around...and poor fuel mileage, and no performance increace at all. the engine needs 14.7 Air/fuel ratio and gutting the cat. leaves it in open loop and it can not get a good (14.7) Air/fuel ratio.
ohh. lucky!! it sure does make it sound mean though..... i gutted mine and it fucked it up so i installed a mangaflow hi-flow cat back on mine and it fixed the problem.
truck soundin good man..i just went and bought me a 2001 dodge yesterday...tha dude that had it put true duals with 2 baby flows and 3inch turn downs..sounds mean as hell...ur glass packs sounds hella good tho
i have a 2000 5.2 liter and i have straight pipes, dodge has alot better fireing order than chevy and ford and i accually did the same thing at the car wash today when i washed mine lol.
was it hard to take the cats out? please reply!!!
