the Ghost Popper was bad ass. the the blackish gun with the yellow foam things on top. i had that in 1987 when i was 10. for them to be foam they stung like hell. made a kid cry one time when i shot him with one. sorry brian. :( it was fun as hell though.
@Casanova1177 Because that Kenner proton pack toy was really, really lame.
As a kid, I never saw this commercial (only illustrations of the toy) so I was convinced that it was a Laser Tag-style toy. I lost all interest in that toy when the owner of a toy store explicitly told me what the toy was, after the parents of many disappointed kids bought it, then brought it back to the store and asked for a refund.
In fact, that store went as far as calling it "Tube Pack" instead of "Proton Pack" to let customers know what they were buying and avoid refund requests.
@mysteriousjeffmather LOL, no, a small town in northern Italy. And you can't blame the guy: he was only being honest. As I wrote, many other kids before me got one of those but they were disappointed (like me, they mistook the photograph of the foam cylinder for an artistic representation of an infrared beam) so their parents brought it back to the store. He did not want that to happen again, so he told me: "Look, this toy is not electronic, the beam is foam, do you still want it?" I said no.
@SpartanOfSandtrap Well, this WAS taken from the movie after all. :) That's why it only showed Stay Puft and Slimer and not classics like Samhain and the Boogeyman.
Holy crap. I had the proton pack, PKE meter, and ghost trap (which isn't shown in this commercial but was equally excellent). Awesome, awesome, AWESOME toys!
Me too. That was the "GhostZapper" (I wonder if there are commercials of it around).
I remember that I wanted the Proton Pack, but all I saw of it was a picture from which it wasn't clear at all that the "beam" was a foam cylinder. I assumed that the beam wasn't really there and the Proton Pack was a Laser Tag-style toy. I never got it. Only years later I discovered what it was, and I was SO glad I never got it... if I did, the look of the FFFUUUUU- picture would've been an understatement.
So thankful I enjoyed these to their fullest

You know, for some kids, these were the toys that made them happiest. I was included in that group, because it gave me something to be excited for.

Wow, that guy sounds like just the kind of jolly soul you want working at a toy store. Where did you grow up, Dickensian London?

I am envious. I once saw on at a Canadian Tire as a kid. I would not leave my mom alone trying to get her to buy it.
