this is so reminicint of the deep south when white folks cheered on innocent blacks being hanged... goes to show we know who is truly doing the deeds of their master Satan!
@cleopatrabonz It is a certainty (You pusillanimous amoeba brought twined by a similarity of brain cells, the word reminiscent is not spelt ‘r-e-m-i-n-i-c-i-n-t’. In furtherance to your unwanted proscenium comment it is markedly unwise attempting insult to your betters, for life is finite whereas Master Satan’s memory is most certainly not. :o)o:
"Zounds!" rhymes with sounds. What kind of an actor is Leslie Howard? It's pronounced Zoonds, being a contraction of God's Wounds. Zounds! What utter incompetence.
@tigranvartanovitch That's the thing, Percy pretends to be a complete fool in the presence of royalty so his secret identity is not suspected. Leslie Howard is an excellent actor, I enjoy his work
@oophelia46 I think you may be giving him too much credit. I haven't seen the film in a while; but, if my memory serves me correctly, someone else mispronounces Zounds. I assumed it was incompetence. Sorry, I do not share your appraisal of Leslie Howard.
Netflix had this for a while in instant viewing, but a lot of material is dissapearing from instant viewing there because of licensing issues. Thank you for putting this up.
Thanks for posting this movie! Leslie Howard is brilliant as Sir Percy. What acting! The turns on a dime from a prissy-pain-in-the-backside to a he-man with great subtly. No overacting on Howard's part! Again, this is a wonderful movie and I thank you for posting it!
I never thought that I would see this again. But I had to trust my fellow youtubers. It's a classic. My favourite part is the ending. Whoo! The first time I saw this, the ending was shocking. What a clever ending.
Thank god I finally found this movie again! This movie is superb, classic, timeless, amazingly romantic, you just don't have enough words for this movie. I have watched this movie many times. I have also watched the other movies many times. The Anthony Andrews/Jane Seymour version is also one of the best versions of this movie. This movie is amazing because of the wonderful pairing of Merle Oberon and Leslie Howard. I was amazed to find out that Merle is of Indian descent. Interesting.
Terrible terrible movie. Watched it because I couldn't bare the book. I don't know which is worst the book or movie. I only watched it because of school. Most of the movie was just talking and talking and talking. Only 1 action scene out of the whole movie. That was at the beginning. Recommend to NEVER read or watch this!
Wow Thanks for your generosity and consideration in uploading this classic. It's the best version especially when Percy recites the poem to Chauvlin.
@ClassicsWEREandARE . You should read the book. That version had no basis in the book although this one differed too. This was a much much better movie.
@mariandelochs There is a very good DVD available in Germany. It's the re-mastered uncut original version, with German and English soundtrack. Search for "Die scharlachrote Blume" on Amazon.de.
