Next to his 2007 origami Butterfly collection, this is still the best collection of Galliano's entire career. Holy mother of God... the look, the workmanship. This show had established Galliano's Dior to what it was.
I have yet to see this level of extravagance and operatic drama on the runway. It was the most spectacular thing ever.
I love how the American flag gown walks btw - like a huge bell.
The Girl Cant Help It - Little Richard An Eye For Optical Theory - Michael Nyman Concerto in C Minor for Two Harpsichords, BWV 1060: II. Adagio - J.S. Bach Tutti Frutti - Little Richard Wheelbarrow Walk - Michael Nyman Lucille - Little Richard Knowing the Ropes - Michael Nyman Great Balls of Fire - Jerry L Lewis Prawn Watching - Michael Nyman & Michael Nyman Band and Orchestra Nut Rocker - B. Bumble and the Stingers
The more I think of it, the less I appreciate the more "wearable" couture shows Galliano has done in later years. While incredibly beuatiful they don't have the magic that these pre-2005 shows have. The new look feels very dated, we want more of your inimitable innovation, Galliano!
exactly.. the collections hes doing recently are amazing.. but they lack what these shows had... which i know are some of my fave collectiones ever...the onyl thing i disagree with you is that i think its pre spring 2007... liek form that down and previous they had sparkle maybe not so much spring 2005 but certainly fall 05 and 06 .... but your right.. they are beautiful the more wearable and in the economic climate he needs to create wearable couture .. but they lack something these shows had.
Oh yes, the SS07 couture was certainly an something extraordinary, if not my one most favorite shows yet.
And oh yes, unless you've already read this it explains the more demure Dior we've seen in later years. It is not a turn of Galliano's creative mind, just corporate bullsh*it. Probably what made Slimane leave DH.
Haute couture absolutely is an art form, but it can be worn for special occasions, like weddings. I believe it was the Trump's latest bride who wore a dress from this collection for their wedding.
On a side note, I love this mix! A-womp-bomp-a-loo-ma-ba-lomp-bam-boom!
wow, she must b super-rich ... lol ... anyway, there was also a woman (actress, i guess, dunno her name) who wore the dress from 7:52 on red carpet, widout the silver embroidery ... ... ... it still luked gud ... ... ... XD
thats great, there are many people here who work in the industry lol.. why are you dising Dior couture in the first place, watch and fucking appreciate it
some this pieces look better static than when they are walking. Who ever said that in couture that they don't use sewing machines is an idiot. They will use a combination of hand sewing and machines.
what? the entirity of couture is hand sewn! not a single machine... well maybe the steamer... but seriously.. you come across smug but dont know the facts :s
one of the most amazing shows of all time - i wrote this note to reuters lol - It was terribly mean to call Ms. Kurkova a lingerie model "LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) Lingerie model Karolina Kurkova has been voted the world's sexiest woman by E! entertainment television, beating sultry actresses Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson for the honor." Ms. Kurkova is the greatest high fashion model of the early 00s, since Ms. Moss.
does anyone know whats the prices for these dresses or where one can find them, i think they would cost around $5000+ but i wanna know the acual prices...thanx.
a Couture Dress costs upwards of £100,000 maybe more
Couture is all handmade and made to order for a very small amount of people NO machines in sight the only machine they have is a steam iron thats it !!!!!
i was meaning that. i wasn't saying i was shocked someone would say they were 5000. i was questioning how ridiculous that comment someone left asking if they cost that much.
read it again sweetheart. all sarcasm..... trust me..... i know my haute, and i know that paying upwards of 100000 is expected.
and SWEETHEART i know Haute couture aswell . you dont have to get snappy with me because i can bite back aswell , i was only answering what i thought was a question
These dresses as they're shown on the runway are easily over $50,000, and that's probably an underestimate. With all of the fur, fabric, embroidery, corsetry and hand painting/dying of the fabrics I wouldn't be surprised if these dresses were closer to the $100k mark.
a couture dress like that would be about 100,000 whereas like a pantsuit would be closer to 20,00 or a blouse like 10,000. but most of those are about 100,000 casue of the embroidery and feathers and everything
@nahyank Hey, I know this response is a bit late but I think I can answer your question quite well! The dresses themselves can cost around $100,000 USD. Haute Couture pieces can become extremely expensive especially if embroidered as these dresses are. It would be hard to find a Dior ready-to-wear dress for only $5,000! My knowledge of this comes from the fact that I have purchased a few Haute Couture (Chanel and Dior) pieces myself (bragging not intended). Hope this helps and cheers!
@nahyank For 5 000 $ you could a simple pret-a-porter jacket or jacket + skirt and pre-a-porter dresses are around 10 000 $, Couture is like 50 000 $ and can exceed to six figures.
I saw these dresses at the V&A couture exhibition, they were pretty amazing but also pretty ridiculous. It's very strange cause I'm blown away by the pure extravagence of it all and find it quite beautiful but also find it a bit ugly at the same time. It really makes you question taste and beauty which is a good thing but these models do look like drag queens.
God can't I have an opinion?! I'm just saying that I don't think that is Gallianos best show, it's lovely and it's clever cause it makes you question beauty and taste, but for all of that credit it gets a bit repetative cause it's just 28 beautifully decorated and extravagant dresses.
