great that he's put the effort in to show this but either his instructor loves competition looking kata or he does. oh dear-why does karate have to de-value itself into a pantomime show. make those pauses any longer and he'd turn into a long pause ( yeah man but at least it looks dramatic ) fuck dramatic- if i want dramatic i'd go see a drama. i'd bet my house that he's got no idea what those moves mean in any kind of martial sense. this is tai chi for old ladies in terms of combat. DO KARATE
Nice power, but there is a lack of focus in many of the moves. Also the beginning ippon-nukite you do not need to hit yourself in the leg on the way to make a nice noise. The focus will do that!
Also the four gyaku-zuki movements are too fast and one is not finished before the next begins. Also again lack of focus.
The long belt will tell that there is very little hip movement here as the belt hardly moves on the change of technique.
Still this is an admirable performance in training. Oss!
good job posting this for the whole to see and respond, takes guts to set yerself up for the onslaught of feedback.....Unsu is not the easiest kata either....posted in 2006, i bet you have improved since then no matter what skill you had here. What organization to you belong to? JKA, ISKF, WKF, AAKF, AJKA or a few others i cant remember.
I don't know if it's me, but is he rushing through the kata? I don't know because it appears to me that he doesn't quite finish each techniques before moving on to the next one. Good job though...I thought he put some power into it
Why is he doing a closed-mouth kiai on every move? He's also rushing too much. He's almost like Luca Valdesi - a chipmunk or squirrel doing kata... all speed, no focus.
The more I watch this, the more I like it. Very good execution - really sharp - every move is defined. Personally, I think the pacing is very good, the whole "noise" thing doesn't bother me at all! If I could ever perform Unsu this well, I would be very pleased!
Wat the fuck i am 14 and i have been practising this kata since i was a red belt aswell as learning heian nidan i am a brown belt now and the only thing wrong with that is he rushed the start right at the begining and wat the fuck there is no power
pour se ki ne connaise pas et ki critike la ferme le kata a kelke petit défaut et alors personne est parfait moi je fait du karaté shotokan et je peu dire kil la bien éxécuté se kata surtout k'il n'est pas le plus facile alors la ferme!!
Decent. However, too many "hmm!" "hmph!!" sounds for me. Go for better stances in the four punches in the beginning also. The middle stances should be lower with the butt in and the knees point out. They look a little sloppy here. The front stances could be lower and sharper as well.
I would be interested in your thoughts about Nakayama Sensei's Unsu kata (elsewhere on youtube). To what do you attribute the differences between you kata and his? Just curious.
nice job!! all the extra noise isn't necessary tho......try a sharp exhalation instead.....it would sound like a slight whistling sound. nice spririt tho!!
Because of your athleticism, if you were broken down of your bad habits, you could have a solid UNSU one day. There is too much extra sound, your rythym is off, and above all, way to much posing. These things, to many, seem small but are huge on a world class level. At the JKA World Championships, you would not place. Find an instructor who is familiar and who understands world class kata to reconstruct your habits in hopes to be at a world class level one day with hard training.
the only thing stated in your post that i agree with is the noise, and even that comes down to personal taste. junior lefevre creates very much the same sound in many of his kata videos. the rhythmn is excellent, and posing? you get nowere in major competitions without good posture and confidence. wouldnt place? thats up to the judges.
Nicly done kata, nice tempo good breathing pretty much great everything. Keep on practising take on harder katas if you are looking to compete in tournements the more jumps you do the more difficulty rating your kata gets and the better you will score. Good Kata.
dude, do not listen to these fricken "critics" judging your kata. They are probably only colored belts trying to sound cool. Your Unsu is AMAZING and all these other people are full of themselves. Yes, I'm an American, but nationality has nothing to do with recognizing good karate and that is what you are demonstrating. Doesn't matter what association you are from, good karate is good karate. Good job!!
to be honest, great speed, good power and snap... but it doesnt look natural enough... maybe cause i'm in a different association, it might be different.. ISKF JKA Shotokan Karate. Overall, not too bad, just different from how i do it.
Great kata, but the noises were WAY too excessive (reminded me of those bulls#!t "XMA" katas). Never seen a better jump, but the best I've seen this was a girl doing it at the Vegas world championships a few years ago. Don't remember her name though...
OK, great Kimei. I believe the Kata is about 30 Seconds too long, but who Am I to say? Where do you study? You use muscle to get through the kata. (next)
Very well done. I just started learning the kata a couple weeks ago, I still haven't mastered the final kick at the end. One again good job and keep up the good work.
less speed, less muscles, less voice & far more hips & kime. Please do finish your techniques.
On the jump do not cheat yourself, your leg must start in front not on left.
Try to make it more traditional & then you will make progress

his techniques poor. he's doing half techniques.

it doesnt matter how many sounds there r. it shows that he is putting power behind his punches. If you shout on another bit it doesn't matter.
jidoquanty 3 years ago
there's no power there. the punches are extremely rigid and half-executed, watch what he does you thick as shit retarded inbred lamer.

Too noisy.
There should not be loud noises on every technique.
The only sounds we should hear are the two ki-ai's

Just a truth karate fighter can do this kata so perfectly. And the noise in the begining is called "kiay" that is a cry of war.

Very nice! This is (I think) the most difficult Shotokan kata, you rarely see it done so cleanly.

Very good kata, just a big heavy on the noises, especially on the first move, i know how satisfying it is,but it's a bit un-necessary.
Niiiiiiiice jump!
