I love how everyone always says "Oh, the real thing is better" or "You need the original". I just find it funny sometimes. That being said I'm sure I would agree.
I have question about memory (for recording patterns) on R8, maybe you can help me?
After recording about 20-25 patterns on my r8, when i record new ones, machine stops and i see message - MEMORY IS FULL. How can I clear place for my future patterns without deleting previous? When i`m loading my much loved Electronic and Dance cards, i`m loading only sounds, without demos, original demos also not exist in memory... can`t believe there`s so small memory in drum machine like this(
The original TR-808 is one of the best drum machines,,,,,,but if you are looking for a "sustained" 808 kick,,, the R-8 is best because you can make the decay REAL LONG!!!! Also the R-8 has pitch. You CAN NOT make the kick long on the original 808 drum machine and there is no pitch on the 808 :(
I owned the original TR-808 for 15 years now, LOVE IT. What Im saying is you can use ALL the sounds in the 808, and then if you want that nice fat kick, THATS where the R8 comes in, I would NEVER compare the 808 to the R8 (soundwise) in a million years,,, but for that long decay, unfortunately (as us 808 owners already know) cannot do it, so thats where the R8 comes in,, UNLESS you use a sampler and loop the kick, but I prefer the sounds FRESH OUT THE ROLAND BOXES, if you understand what I mean
my sound card is coming in the mail today. i cant wait to use it.. those bass sounds sound niceeeeeeeeeee

who cares, its what you do with it not what's better or not. You can have all the gear in the world and still suck.....

Well....I have a real 808 and I also have this machine, and I can tell you that this ain't even close to the real thing, especially the snare.
Sounds very wimpy next to the real thing.
