He (and his test results) remind me of myself when I was that age. Grass is my ridiculously huge allergen too. Watch out for the cereals (wheat, rye, barley, rice - and corn, which you already know about) as he gets older; they are all in the general grass category. They're my most severe food allergens.
Let him know that he rocks so hard. Regardless of how his allergies develop he's got a good head on his shoulders and that alone'll take him far. <3
that is way too many allergic reactions .... I'm sorry, but this is the result of keeping our houses absolutely sterilized. We NEED germs, people, to keep our immune system NORMAL, and not overreact to the slightest foreign invader.
about 7 years ago had an allergy test like this, but the doctors didn't even OFFER any sort of numbing at all, and I was kicking and screaming and sobbing, and they were telling my parents "Don't worry, shes only 5 years old. Shes just scared because people are holding her down. It doesn't hurt at all." Well, now I have post-traumatic-stress, and my parents aren't quite happy either. The test is also very innacurate, because I own birds which I am apperantly "allergic" to. Doctors= assholes
I did the same thing for the first time at about 7-8 years old. The regular injections are far worse, but still 20-30 shots in each arm is not an amusing prospect to anyone your age. ouch
It isn't too late as I get this done on Tuesday. And I already was told by the nurse they have a numbing cream I will be using.
I had the TB test in my arm once, and they told me it is sorta the same thing. I figured it hurt less than blood being drawn or w/e...so it might be ok. I just hate needles, PERIOD.
As for the pricks, are they deep pricks that draw blood? Or just enough to break the skin like a scratch?
It's just under the skin; your comparison the TB (TIne test) wheal is spot on. That's exactly what it equates to... Nothing too horrid, but it will turn the skin red/itchy and will blow up like a balloon, if you are allergic...
@sqiggythebrat Actually, they pretty much never use skin prick with needles anymore for allergy tests (otherwise, I would have NEVER had it done when I was 8, needles freak me out to the umpteenth degree) Mostly they do scratch tests nowadays (which is what I had) where its just the prickly little plastic things with the allergens in them that they poke in ur back. Doesn't feel amazing, but it doesnt hurt nearly as bad as a needle :)
wow that is 1 good kid!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got told today I have to go in to get the entire allergy test done...80 pricks in the back, 20 something on the arm. I am 22 :(
I am not looking forward to it...and I hate needles.

Good luck, and be strong... (too late for this now, but) ask about "EMLA Creme"

I only think I am allergic to dust, animal hairs, and a couple molds...I doubt it is anything more than that...

the test is not that bad but the shots are horid
Bchupy 4 years ago
you got that right, bud
dtrinc 4 years ago
Yeah, that's me in this video and now I'm having those shots every week.
I hate it. But it helps.
Bchupy 4 years ago
Do the allergy shots feel like normal shots such as tetnis, flu, etc.?
SgtCheeseNOLS 3 years ago
The needles are much smaller gauge, but they hurt almost as much (certainly as much as flu shots, nothing like MMR, DPT [tetanus])
dtrinc 3 years ago
That might make me feel a bit better than..because I hated my tetanus and MMR shots.
SgtCheeseNOLS 3 years ago
Well what really hurts is when they go in and get bone marow look it up that hurts!
WhatAchickado 2 years ago
no not at all u get use to it
Bchupy 3 years ago
I actually just took my second dosage today of the allergy shots. I uploaded my videos of getting tested too. I just hope I will get used to them...
SgtCheeseNOLS 3 years ago
There is no allergy shots in allergy testing, its just a metal thing that pricks you all over you arm. Theres no shots, and it doesn't hurt.
SarahandEmilyshow 3 years ago
unfortunately, next up are the weekly/bi-weekly allergy shots... Painful... Good luck dude.
