  • I have sen Raul live, both on his own and with the Mavericks. He is versatile and the only comparison to make is Roy Orbison. The velvety smooth, honest, passionate voice, that gives him the ability to make every song his own.

  • fantastic luv it

  • I just heard Raul Malo on PBS singing some of Buddy Hollys songs for a "Tribute to Buddy Holly"...I was blown away....Raul is absolutely a voice from Heaven...amazing voice...amazing man....I had never heard of him before this morning on PBS...but Im definately a huge fan from now on...

  • Killer voice.

  • An angels voice to me

  • I see Roy Orbison everytime I hear Raul. So similar. He is playing tonight in Austin for free. Wow.

  • Let's not forget the Hollies covered Phil Everly's romantic versiuon ,from the album "Star Spangled Springer"produced at Duane Eddys' studio in LA!

  • @lejeune1945 So few remember the first version that I heard. Thank you for mentioning it!

  • Uh, love you Raul, but you got the lyrics in the first verse wrong.

  • He played this in London last week.A magical performance.

Is there no song which Raul cant cover and make better?

  • No one can sing like Raul.......he is THE BEST......and its so sexy

  • makes me weak everywhere!!! LOVE HIM.....marry me!!!!!

  • I love Raul's gorgeous voice! His cover of Skynrd's "They Call Me The Breeze" is totally AWESOME! Give it a listen too! You won't regret it!

  • Brill, and I remember the Hollies doing this on TOTP's......lovely classy pop number.

  • In spite of all his many acknowledged talents, including a crystal clear voice, Raul is nowhere nearly as sexy as Allan Clarke in the day -- maybe the most natural singer to ever front a band.

  • this became my favorite that i found here on you tube 2 yrs back, my favorite version

  • Sorry but, the chorus does not come anywhere near the original...

  • Raul and the Mavs covering a rock classic like a warm fuzzy blanket, and as always Raul Malo steps up to the microphone and crushes it and sends it smoking out of the park, leaving no doubt as to the identity of the finest singer in America, if not the By God Universe!

  • Such a romantic song...

  • this man's voice gives me chills in a good way!

  • one of today's best vocalists.

  • class

  • A classic by a real class act!!! People don't realize what great songs the Hollies wrote.

  • as good or better as origional by hollies

  • Damn this computer..it never goes loud enough!!

  • Funny intro from the announcer.

  • the best voice around. just great

  • A remake of a great song from one of my favorite vocalists. Love the song written by Mike Hazlewood and Albert Hammond ... & was also recorded by Phil Everly on his album "Star Spangled Springer" ... and, of course, also a hit of the Hollies.

  • i am a classic rock fan I think the mavericks are the only country music i like

  • He does good

  • Beautiful! I love Raul's voice ..... sigh.....

  • Beautiful! I love Raul's voice....sigh.....

  • Fantastic...

  • im a hardcore hollies fan and a stickler for originals but this is AWESOME

  • BTW --- Raul Malo kicks butt on this song! Another Fav!

  • power and control, raul is so smooth.

  • Raul Malo WAS the Mavericks. A totally beautiful voice. However, I still prefer the Hollies version. Raul really shines on "Oh What a Crying Shame"!

  • Both are very good, but for a real treat check out the original recording of this song by Phil Everly. His version was very good and was what the Hollies replicated essentially. His version was produced by Warren Zevon.

  • @Waldo99 --- Thanks for the tip on Phil Everly. It was hauntingly beautiful, and I loved the way the song ended. Wish all the subsequent versions had the same ending. Saved Phil's version to my Favs!

  • @Waldo99

The Phil Everly album, "Star Spangled Springer" was produced by Duane Eddy.

Duane found the song "The Air That I Breathe" which was written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood., and knew it would be a perfect choice for Phil.

A few years later, The Hollies thanked Duane for discovering this beautiful song, which was such a huge hit for them.

Not to leave this out, Warren Zevon did some arranging on that album.

  • Oh my God, Raul. I saw you yesterday LIVE in Switzerland. You are gorgeous. I LOVE YOU!.

  • @macaio2009

How long did Raul's concert last? There are so many songs that he sings well, so I'm just wondering approximately how many he could fill in 1 concert.

  • Would somebody please give him my phone number and address? He is just too good.

  • No one holds a candle to Raul.... NO ONE! Makes me weak every time...... damn.

  • Agree such a sexy voice love him.

  • @Julbutterfly I agree, his voice is otherworldly

  • @Julbutterfly Hes good but get serious no one? There's 12 yearolds here on the tube that smoke this guy.

  • @cast390 get real. How can a twelve year old put the emotion of love in a song. Tired of teens who think vocal histrionics is singing. Please...

  • ~~~~swoons~~~

  • I love The Mavericks and Raul Malo's voice is so beautiful.

  • also very nice!

  • yeap.very nice.but i still believe the original is way better :)

  • Raul Malo is probably the sexiest singer alive. That voice, that smile...I can't gush enough about him!

  • Here here! I know what you are saying. Watch him sing "El Paso". He is adorable.

  • Truly Awesome!!! These guys played at DooDaz a country nightclub in Fort Lauderdale before they hit it big. A Great Band!

  • Raul voice is outstanding. I don't expect less. Ever!

  • I love this version, raul malo rules

  • as soon as I heard Raul and the Mavericks sing this version of The Air That I Breathe, I searched online and bought their cd... absolutely beautiful and heart-rendering. Thank you for posting, 5***** awesome

  • its "the mavericks", not "raul and the mavericks". thats the problem, everyone just thinks of the mavericks as raul malo, yeah he's good but eddie, paul and robert are some of the finest talents in music
