OMG, 1979. I was only 9 years old at the time, but this stuck in my head forever. I thought I would NEVER see this again, just like so many good things from back then just disappeared, never to be seen or heard again. I wish this show could have survived all the way through the 80's-- that would have been so cool to grow up with. Thank you SO MUCH for posting this and bringing back a good piece of my childhood. If this EVER comes out on DVD, I'll be first in line to get my copy.
I recently heard the song "Reminiscing" by The Little River Band. That made me remember "Hot Hero Sandwich" because The Little River Band once appeared on the show performing their classic hit "The Lonesome Loser." Though "Hot Hero Sandwich" lasted only one season, it hooked me from the start and I never missed it. It was nice seeing this video. Thanks for posting it. Long Live Stanley Dipstick! Don't forget Captain Hero!
When I reminisce about Saturday morning television of the 70s, I think one of its goals must have been to get every kid in Southern California on tv at least once.
It was an interesting show and I really like the theme song. What other show of that era or even today, would have three guests as diverse as Loretta Lynn, Richard Pryor and Leonard Nimoy?
AND, it starred Lloyd Braun, back before he became a big advisor to Mayor Dinkins and had the nervous breakdown. :-)
Wow...I can't believe this was posted. I remember this show from my childhood. There was one skit or comedy bit called "Tommy Two" done to a song. If anyone happens to have that it would be a great post.
...would love to see the episode with the Little River Band...I remember! These shows (and artists' performances) would make for a super DVD collection...
I remember that some of the filmed interviews dealt with issues teens had to deal with, and when my mom overheard one star talking about masturbation, she freaked out and told me we couldn't watch that show anymore!
I'm pretty sure the person who mentioned masturbation in a filmed interview was Leonard Nimoy. I was amazed by that. A bit of honest talk like on TV did this teenager a world of good. (While even better would have been if they had acknowledged the existence of gay and lesbian teenagers...)
I remeber it had a wide rane of musical guests from Joe jackson to Loretta Lynn. Anything today can do that? Most try to promote the latest rap star or female star
PBS brought back The Electric Company, maybe Lorne Michaels can bring back this relic as well since networks are running out of ideas and resurrecting old TV shows
Wow I lived on the same block as Hot Hero band member Mark Cunningham....( East 90th St. NYC ) We use to tease him and call him Paul Stanley...he took it well...Mark if your out there..Hello....and thanks for the Great Gildersleeves passes.....
Wow....I use to live on the same block as Hot Hero band member Mark Cunningham...every time he would walk by our stoop (East 90th St. NYC )we would say "hey look its Paul Stanley" he would just smile and keep walking...after about 2 months of this he stoped and talked to us,he was very cool and told us about Hot Hero..we had no idea..he gave us t-shirts and backstage passes to see Hot Hero at the Great Gildersleeves...he was very cool...Hi Mark ...if your out there...
wow...can't believe you had this on tape. i thought i was going crazy because nobody, i mean NOBODY i 've talked to can remember this show. but i've had this theme song in my head for 30 years. i was beginning to think i wrote it. damn, there go all those royalties. thanks for the post..!!
I'[m with you on that! Never forgot that song and the visual of the Hot Hero neon sign logo. Don't really remember anything else about the show but i know i loved that show back then.
mistersloppy -:O!!!!! NO KIDDING!!! ever since YOUtube went up, I have been checking back and forth to see if ANYONE actually taped this show, it would be 1 or 2 years for my family to get a VCR! Not only was the content something I could relate to (even though I had graduated High School by this time), but the Hot Hero band was awesome :) I loved their Hard Rock version of "Try to Love One Another", The Skits and Insights were funny and poiniant, PLEASE put up "Episodes!" 70sKidVids! -MAVIII
The only thing I remember from this show was that Kiss were on once, during the Dynasty era, so I guess I must not have watched it very much. lol I recognize Denny Dillon, though, because she was in a lot of sitcoms during the 80's.
Wow, I was glued to the TV every Saturday at noon for this show. I remember the band did a killer cover of the Youngbloods "Get Together". I was only in the 6th grade but it has left a lasting impression on me to this day. If you have this clip please post it.
WOW only when i listen to it now do I recognize that its"SHAGGIE" -Scooby Doo - Robin( superfreinds) Kacy Kasem was the narrator . wow its funny but when your 9 you don't hear voices like you do when our older.
EVERY Saturday morning I was glued. I always ask friends if they remember 'Hot Hero Sandwich' and they don't. I am truly impressed that this is posted. Thank you SO MUCH. KISS had an episode on here. What a bonus. Thanks, Trudy
Oh my god, what a flashback! I vividly remember the version of 'Get Together' the band did (heck, I even remembered the hairstyle the guitarist had), and can recall how excited I was right before the 'Kiss' episode came on that blissful Saturday morning. Or actually, I think it was on around noon. Whatever. Ah, the joyful mindlessness of youth. PLEASE post all the clips available from this show! I can't tell you how happy this made me.
I weep in joy! I watched this every Saturday and i still think it was one of the best theme songs I have ever heard. I started playing guitar around this time and the theme song was such an inspiration. Once they had a band on there, probably a house band, playing a version of " Get Together " that really inspired me. I recall they were playing Dean guitars which I lusted for at the time.
The LEGENDARY Felix Pappalardi (bassist and producer of MOUNTAIN of "Mississippi Queen" fame) wrote the music (including this theme) and produced this great show. Network stupidity for canceling this show and so many variety shows of the 70's. This show is what was good and real about american television.
This show was awesome! But the theme song and the Hot Hero Band made the show the greatest. After the show went off the air the Hot Hero band went on tour as the (212) band I am truly sorry I missed out on seeing them in concert, some of the band were former members of the bands REX and Derringer. To Mark the lead guitarist You are my Guitar Hero!
The Hot Hero Band were professional musicians, former members of the band REX,& Derringer. They were awesome! After the show was canceled They toured as the(212)band. I am so sorry I missed out on that tour! Anyway to Mark the guitarist You Are MY HERO and have been for over 25 YEARS! ROCK ON
WOW! And all of a sudden I'm in the fourth grade again!-LOL I thought I'd never see this again and I never get tired of watching it. Thank you, 70'sVidKid. (I meant to thank you a long time ago.) :)
Thank You for Posting this!!!! My friends thought I was crazy, No one remember this show.. I use to love the theme song!!!! You're my youtube hero 70sKidVid. Thanks again
Holy GOD! If you have the clip of Joe Jackson performing "On Your Radio" from *this very episode* I would be ever so happy. That performance left a HUGE impression on the very young me.
My 15 minutes of fame begins here - I worked on this show (as a writer) and have only a few episodes on very grainy VHS. So, it's a pleasure to see it again, and to hear that people saw, remembered and maybe even liked the show is a warm and mushy feeling!
do you have any other clips from this? one of the shows had an animated video to a cover of A Wild Night is Calling. I've been wanting to see that again for years.

This show starred Paul O'Keefe. In 1963 - 1965, he was Patty Lane's kid brother on The Patty Duke Show.

I remember there was an active parental movement to get this series canceled at the time
a lot of parents felt threatened by its honesty for some reason
I remember reading parents who wrote to the newspaper or to TV Guide praising their son or daughter for speaking out against the series
