People, I have the tightest hamstrings EVER. I have an extremely (extremely!) flexible back so I never ever stretch my hamstrings when bending over because I get all the movement from my back. If I keep my back straight I can't bend more that 10 degrees forward. IT SUCKS BAWLS
I was utterly positive there was no way something this hokey would work, I'm a skeptic by nature. But I was so desperate for a fix that i tried this and... it works. I can't touch my toes yet but I could only go a few inches below my knees, now i'm about 4" away from my toes.
Tight hamstrings must be an epdidemic cos prior to reading the posts on here i honestly believed i had the tightest hamstrings on planet earth, but evidently there are a few people who feel the same. What i'd give to be able to bend forwards put my palms on the floor like those yoga dudes...Lets hope this is the magic
@2stunden there is a band of fascia that runs the length of the posterior body... by releasing it in the foot, it helps to release all the way up the backside of the body.
Ive been stretching while in the sauna and hot tub at the gym for only a month and I can already reach quite a bit further. This is after working out and HIIT on the eliptical.
I came across this video browsing through hamstring videos. I have "pathologically" tight hamstrings, something I seem to have been born with. Now that I'm 65 they are really giving me trouble. It's interesting that the trainer refers to the medial arch. I suppose he means the arched part of the foot. I often get severe foot cramps at night in the arches of my feet. I'm also getting, just recently, the IT band pain over that bone that sticks out on the side of the knee. Everything's tight!!!
It is so hard to find a decent hamstring exercises for strength and especially for flexibility and release. Using a ball (I have a "dryer anti-static" ball) works really WELL. Thank you. Wonderful!
can someone tell me how bad my hamstring is coz i was playing football and i felt it being really tight and now i cant walk good or put my leg straight?
My hamstrings have always been extremely tight, despite various workout regimes, P90X, etc. After attempting another failed hamstring stretch I decided to google the problem to see if there was anything I could do about it. I tried this using a pet toy plastic ball. It worked like a charm, I could touch my feet and really stretch my hamstrings. Before I could only touch my shins. It's like magic. Why is this not more widely taught?
Wow. I was a competitive gymnast for years and after an injury I had to give it up. Unfortunately I lost most of my flexibility because of it. now I can touch my toes again!
another thing that helps is, after work, rest you feet for about an hour (no shoes) then massage them with your hands as best you can, and do some walking on thick carpet od soft ground. you may hear some popping and snapping sounds from your feet.
@979roadrunner my father in law was a fireman for 30 years and suffers with his feet. i do alot of ladder work and mine arnt great either my hamstrings are also tight as hell i might just try this. is a softer or harder ball better ie tennis or cricket ball? and i assume in this case more pain= bettter?? is it advisable to put most of my bodyweight (90kg) on it??
@eatthisvr6 I started with a raquette ball and moved to a tennis ball. Also bought a baseball but It's too hard, likely a hard rubber ball would be best (laCross bal, maybe?)
It didn't do anything for my hamstrings, but my feet love it. If you have pain in the balls of the feet, too, a superball (small solid rubber ball, about the size of a 'shooter' marble can be used there (the big ball won't help there.
@eatthisvr6 ALL your weight would flatten the ball, unless it's solid, and it won't work that way. It should hurt while you're doing it, though.
Note that I have plantar Faciitis, a condition where the tendon in the bottom of the foot is injured and tighens up, causing pain when walking after being off the feet for a while. It's realy bad in the mornig, I used to hobble like a crippled old man my first trip to the toilet each day. If that sound familiar this ought th help you and your father
@979roadrunner my father in law had plantar faciitis im not sure how bad it is now though.
where mine get sore is in the curve underneath it feels like iv strained the muscles there im a little bit flat footed too. am i right in thinking the ball basically massages and works the muscles and tendons underneath?
@eatthisvr6 Yes, it massages and stretches the plantar facia, easing pain there. your pain sounds like PF, especialy if your feet are sore first thing in the morning. PF is the result of injury to the tendon there.
In my case it 28 yaers of working on conctrete, 8-16 hrs a day, wearing crappy, bad fitting shoes.
If you spend more time on ladders than terra firma, you should be wearing hard soled work boots to protect that tendon.
Long-term... you could get a complete fascial release in the required areas in your body... eat healthier... learn to stand in the proper postural position... strengthen certain muscles that are unbalanced and stretch the others... there are lots of things you can do for long-term relief. Just gotta remember that the body works as a whole... so just because you have a pain in your foot, it might be caused by a neck impingement.
Wow im surprised profesionals do this, I have this baseball and I just one day stood on it and it makes my feet feel good when i massage them using it.

Thank you, sir, you just did more for my Plantar Faciitis than my doctor's recomended exercises (which basicaly did nothing)
My feet are so bad I did this with a Raquetteball.
As I get better, I'll go to a Tennis ball, and maybe, if I think it's called for, a baseball.
