In the Russian Military some us use the Kilchorski knife... If has a rounded base with a small point to make even the handle a deadly part of the knife. It also has the triple jagged edge on the back with the tip of the knife sharp on both sides to go through military cavalar and heavy clothing... Alot of fun toys in the military to play with.
1. the first is the ASEK version which is only in Foliage green color and is IR+Seat belt cutters 2. is the camel brown survival LMF2 this is not coyote brown and has a diff serial number to it it also comes with all the accessories that comes with the ASEK version but it's not IR and hence not ASEK version 3. Infantry version comes in all three colors in this u get black ,coyote brown and foliage green but with out accessories ,only green one in this has IR, and sheath of green is also IR
The Gerber LMF II is an INFANTRY knife, meaning it has multiple uses. You CAN use it for almost anything, but it is not specifically designed for any one task. Why are you guys fighting about a knife on YouTube via comment streams? Are any of you actually Infantry? It's a knife. That means it's a sharp piece of metal with the means to mame, kill, or cut through materials. If you want to use 550 cord and convert it to a spear, more power to you, those holes are there for a reason.
@GRIM2594 I totally understand. People bash this knife but I use it every day in Afghanistan and it has more than served its purpose. It's a badass knife. I know it is not cut out for every job, but no knife is. That's why there are other tools to use for specific tasks and, in a survival situation, I would hope you would be more equipped and not carry only 1 knife... Because that would make you a retard. Lol
@GRIM2594 I was just trying to state that I wouldn't trust a a spear like that with my life (against human opponents). Like, for instance, say your in a place like Russia. You have a half inch pole that knife and a piece of paracord. You tie em all together, but in the middle of fighting your way out, the knot brakes or something like that. What are you going to do now? You could just go with hand to hand combat with the knife. But I mean if your hunting in the bush and the knot brakes, no prob
@biggamehunter509 That isn't what you were implying, in your last comment... but sure. There can always be potential problems. This knife is not a specific purpose knife, as that's not what the creators had in mind with the design. They wanted to give the pilot as much as they could out of one knife. However, the downfall to multipurpose is that it isn't specialized for any one thing.
Sure, this knife "can" do specific tasks, but there are a lot better quality for specific purposes.
So if it's for urban things, why would it have those two holes in it to make a SPEAR? Would you be hunting house cats? I don't think so. It's a survival knife for downed aircraft pilots. It's made for use in the bush.
@biggamehunter509 Who said that a spear would be used for hunting? Have you not heard of a thing called self-defense? You obviously don't know much about survival, wilderness or urban.
It's not made FOR the bush, it's made to be multi-tasking. If it was made for the bush, it wouldn't have a serrated edge where you would need a straight edge for doing woodworking tasks. Have you even tried to use a serrated blade, for woodworking?!
@GRIM2594 and what are the alterations? ...so btw for survival, bushcraft, hunting , camping...the best one is asek?(being heavyer it has a bigger choping power i think) they come with the same sheath, blade, tang and hammer/dagger right?(thank you very much)
@matei144 I don't know all of the alterations, sorry. You can easily find the specifications and features by doing a search on the internet. It would probably be more accurate too.
@ayokay123 Yes, I find it difficult to do woodworking and other various bush-craft techniques. You really need a blade that isn't serrated, or with the serrations possibly on the back side of the blade. Where the serrations are, on this blade, make carving a little difficult because it leaves grooves in the wood.
I carry multiple knives, in my BOB; each for it's own purpose.
yeah so i had dropped my gerber lmf II from shoulder height and had it break at the serrated section not impressed at all... only commenting due to that fact... knife had little wear and was only about a month old... lucky i had a spare knife with me on my 15 day hike... not sure if this is common or not but just a heads up... knife was very good when it was in one piece
i was infact really surprised when the break happen as i love gerber products. if i still had it i would take a picture but alas i got mad and threw it and it being olive in color i couldnt find it lol

@so17alpha I am looking at buying this knife and on eBay there about $159-$189 it depends on location shipping colour and seller u may be able to talk them down
@johnjirvin I have used it quite a bit, to test out and make sure it was worth the $100, but I try not to over use it, since it is part of my bug out kit. ;)
ok, i want to get a lmf 2. but i heard that the infantry model only comes with one leg strap, and the asek comes with 2. so can u explain that for me, since u've got 2 straps with ur infantry
@SO17Alpha It really depends on the application. If I were to need a knife for carving wood, then no I would prefer a blade without the serrated edge. However, if I need a knife that will cut through almost anything, then yes. I have multiple knives, but this one I purchased for a particular purpose; to break into areas that I may need in a survival situation. If SHTF and I needed access into an abandon building, this knife would get me in with little resistance. If I need to open a can ect ect.
@SO17Alpha I payed full retail price for it, which is $99.99, at Dick's Sporting Goods locally. You can get them cheaper on the internet, but be careful who you order from. All of the items that I have bought of Gerber's locally have been made in the USA, while the one Axe I ordered off the internet was made in Taiwan. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the axe, as it has preformed well with the few hundred times that I have used it... So it's not that big of a deal as of yet.
Nice Knife. I got to get me one of those. Love the leg strap option. Great review GRIM2594. Keep the great vids comming. I am going to post this on my blog today at survivalcentral . net
@survivalcentral Thanks! I hope to start having more and more videos as time progresses. I have quite a bit of gear to review too, mainly stuff I have in my bug out bag.

@ROBERTFLYNN3578 Hah, that's basically what I just said to biggamehunter509.
However, it wasn't an argument on my end... It's just two people having a conversation. It's up the the interpreter to decide "how" to read it. ;)

@GRIM2594 can you tell me the differnce between lmf 2 a.s.e.k and lmf 2 infantry please?

@GRIM2594 what is the differnce between a.s.e.k and infantry?
matei144 2 months ago
@matei144
LMF: Lightweight Multi-Functional
ASEK: for Aviation Support Element Kaneohe (Says Gerber)
The only real differences are that they come with different features. They are basically the same knife, with just a few alterations from each other.

@MultiFuzzyPanda That's interesting!
My knife dropped, blade first, into concrete with just a nick in the blade, from about 3 and a half feet in the air.
I have not tested this knife with cold weather or different elevations.
What was the climate and elevation like, when yours broke?
GRIM2594 5 months ago
@GRIM2594 it was about 70-80 degree F and elevation wasnt that high i was on the AT in VT section by stratton dont know the elevation off hand

Modern parashutes have cutaway handles for cutting away the canopy when it malfunctions.
I don't think you need a knife for doing that in mid-air. :P
