In french, certain verbs need what they call a reflexive... so technically , Je "me" souviens is 'i remember me', which in turn serves as 'i remind me' which in turn is 'i remind myself'..see, some verbs, although carrying the same meaning in English, just don't exist in the exact same form as in English...This doesn't apply to ALL verbs, though... "I want" is simply "Je veux"..NOT "Je ME veux".
