  • I'm a 16 year old watching this and I can understand everything your talking about. I also recognized almost all the songs mentioned in this.

  • @trunks1109 Welcome to philosophy :-)

  • The video is solid- for many young brown & black youth this is everyday life for them...this video affirms their life style while also showing them they can emerge from their current circumstances. Keep the videos comin' Dr. C.

  • Over an hour long!?!!?!?!?

  • good review

  • Although there may be a level of complexity to a genre, when looking at it's history, does this actually mean that this depth of complexity is actually being envisioned by artists today?

  • @TogetherForPeace In other words is there a point at which the depth and complexity of hip hop is being used for the individuals prosperity more so than for the enrichment of the community and as such in some way taking away from such depth? My apologies..if Im not conveying my idea very clearly here. I am enjoying watching this and appreciate your thoughts.

  • @TogetherForPeace yeah ur right much of this is done to make a profit, but beyond that hip hop is a form of an oral tradition and as such the lyricist has the obligation to speak on behalf of those they represent in the ghetto. So when they articulate these tremendous levels of violence it's because there's such high levels of it existing in the hood. But their cries fall on deaf ears. So I have "reframed" what they have said to make the "meaning" more accessible to a wider audience.

  • @TogetherForPeace

yay, more big users are finding this channel!
